View 2 RepliesI'm trying to install Redhat 6.1 on my new pc (Acer) but I can't end my installation process because of a type drive selection. More exactly I have changed the boot sequence and set it to boot from a cd-rom drive in Bios environment. I have observed that to solve my first problem
" PCI-IDE: unknow IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device fa, vid=8086, did=2928 have changed in Bios environment: "D2D recovery:" from IDE ---> to AHCI Then I have observed that I have passed this step but I am stuck with this problem: Which drive should I try?[*] Specify module parameters I have tried all devices shown in the list but without success.
I have a drive that I am going to use for media storage, but i am not sure which filesystem type to choose. It was originally ext2 since it had Fedora on it once before, but I want something that is accessible (ie read/write) from a Windows system. I think as long as I share the mount via Samba or something I should not need to worry about the type of system it is.Before thinking, I chose fat32 until I remember the limitations. Since this drive will be mounted by Fedora, I believe I should stick with ext*, but I'm not sure which to choose.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn my system around 73gb(pc-desktop) i have,1 primary partition(windows)-25gb, 1-extended partition(remaining gb) 3 logical partitions were there in (under) extended partition in one of the logical partition is d:drive. in my hard disk d: drive is -/dev/sda5
previosly i was fat -file system , (d:drive-/dev/sda5), i remember i changed the d: drive(d:drive-/dev/sda5) file system to ext4file system ,with following command using terminal
After doing(changing the file system)this one ,i couldnt see the d:drive data
By doing that
1q) Did i reformatted the partition? i think the new filesystem(ext4) has no knowledge of the data that was on it when it had a FAT filesystem.
2q) How to do undo operation,i tried to change the filesystem type to fat/ntfs in terminal using command --sudo mkfs -t FAT /dev/sda5.
Result:its showing text message-'mkfs.FAT: No such file or directory'(not in single quote)
I had very imp data in d:drive
I just loaded octave. I ran through a few examples of how to implement a script file. Everything works until I get to "plot". When I run the "plot" command I get the following.
octave:2> test1.m
error: can't perform indexing operations for <unknown type> type
sh: gnuplot: not found
Just to double check my work, I ran the following code:
y=[1 2 3];
plot(y);
I am copying the file form one directory to another directory using shellscript.
Here i want to get the Mimetype/Content-type of the file.
How to i can get the MimeType.

I have a x64 OpenSUSE server with two hard drivers installed. The first one is used for the / and /home partitions and the other is for backups. Ironically enough it is the backup hard drive I am having trouble with. I was having trouble writting to the drive and unmounted it to preform a fchsk, however now when ever I try to mount it I get the following error:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
Does anyone know who I can repair the drive and retrive data?
I have a "Storage" partition in my hard drive which I have labeled as such and added to fstab. This is my fstab file:
[Code]...
The problem is that when I open up nautilus and click the Computer icon in the toolbar (which gives the fake computer:/// address) I see two items referring to my Storage partition:
* Storage (which appears to be of "unknown type" in the properties).
* 500 GB Hard Disk: Storage (which is the one that works).
When I try to play any type of media file, It plays but can't fast forward or rewind plus there's no sound. I.e Avi , Mpg , Flash or anything, I can't even download the bad plugins because it says that there's a conflic with another repo that I've got installed. the only repos that I've got installed are the Main fedora one's , RPM fusion & adobe, so how do I installed the codecs to play anything proper on Fedora 11 cheers

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 13 and i noticed a very annoying problem. I cannot type in Cyrillic in any of GNOME`s applications, however i can type in Cyrillic in other programs - like Firefox for example. I`ve tried in Rhythmbox, network manager (the configuration dialogs), gedit, nautilus, etc. I`ve also tried in Firefox where it works and for now is my only non GNOME application. The curios thing is that Cyrillic does work in gnome-terminal... I am currently using Bulgarian phonetic traditional layout but i`ve also tried with Russian and Macedonian without success. My Fedora installation is fully updated.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have windows7 with partition of C:40G, D:40G, E:70.I want to install fedora15,so I use the tool "Disk Management" of win7 to shrink E:.Then I have E:60G and 10G unallocated.
I use Liveusb-creator and boot from usb.It works well and I can use fedora15 just like livecd. But when I install fedora to hard disk,I meet a problem and I don't know how to solve it.
The installation procedure comes "Which type of installation would you like?".There's five options 1."Use All Space" 2."Replace Existing Linux System" 3."Shrink Current System" 4."Use Free Space" 5."Create Custom Layout".I've already got 10G unallocated space,so I select "Use Free Space".But the problem is that the fedora installer popups a messagebox says something that means that I don't have enough space to allocate to fedora15.
I come back to "Which type of installation would you like?" and select "Create Custom Layout".The installer display 4 entries of my hard disk:sda1 unknown 0M, sda2 100M windows remain partition, sda3 with capacity 39900M, sda4 with capacity 112625M.The partition display of my hard disk is so strange and there is no free space.
Is the problem of win7 "Disk Management" or "Fedora Installer"? How can I really get some free space to install fedora15?
After some update, I cannot type accented characters in any KDE app. I'm using a spanish keyboard and I have checked that the system keyboard layout is set correctly. If I try to type a character like what I get instead is a "a".Non KDE apps work fine. Can it be a IBus related problem? By the way, I'm using IBus 1.3.99.20110608.

I have a cheap usb kvm that doesn't pass the EDID data back to the computer from the monitor. And now Fedora 12 seems to rely on autodetection of the monitor to start up at the proper resolution. When I have my samsung 712N on the kvm, fedora 12 boots to only 800x600 max resolution. If I connect the monitor directly to the computer video card, fedora sets the screen resolution to the desired 1280x1024 properly.
When booted through the kvm, fedora won't let me detect or select the correct monitor, and I haven't found any way to work around the problem other than pulling the monitor off the cable, connect to the cpu, reboot. After it's booted I can reconnect the monitor to the kvm and the video is fine.
My question is does anyone know how to manually tell Fedora 12 at startup what kind of monitor I'm using and skip the bootup monitor detection? So far I've spent a couple unproductive hours with google to discover this isn't a totally uncommon problem and no site I've found seems to have any solution.
I would like to set my FireFox up so that when I type something in the address bar that is not a url, it will automatically do a google search. I have done this before, but that was a while ago and I can't remember what settings to change in about:config.Currently, when I type something that is not a url, it performs a search and then automatically opens the first web page that it finds, like a "I'm feeling lucky" search. I just want to see a google list.

It seems to install fine, but when I press the link to run the program it always says there is no file type associated with this program. Here is the site to download it: [URL]. I've tried the full and reduced versions, and I tried building it from source, which I have no idea how to do. I am using Fedora 10. Also, I've gone to their linux guy and he tried to help, but has never used Fedora, and so nothing he said worked.
