How do we go about changing the login page so that it is not a drop down listing all the users? I'm looking to configure the login to be like how RHEL 5 and below is. Where you have to type in the account name, then it prompts for the password. I don't want the system to show a user history.

(As a solution to not being able login after checking the box I found that deleting kwinrc in .kde/share/config/ should help and it worked, so this is not a problem).

I don't know if it's related but I also when on login screen I can't console login - after warning I see black screen and nothing more.
I'm using Fedora 15, Gnome Shell. Standard window decoration (Adwaita).
Some applications use one set of colors for drop-down menus; other applications use another set of colors.
Nautilus, e.g., uses a white / bright blue combination. Quodlibet and Firefox both use a greyish blue. see attached screenshots.
Are your Gnome applications also doing this sort of thing in Fedora 15 and Gnome Shell?
I have problem with login to Fedora 14. After I type my password is show Fedora 14 screen but It stop doing anything it show only Fedora 14 Picture background.

Now my question is that is there any way by which I can install the packages(like OpenOffice.org) from that DVD to fedora 14? I have a slow internet connection and its not possible for me to download large files.
2. I installed some packages via yum. My friend also has fedora 14 but unfortunately he doesnt have a internet connection to download the files via yum and install them. Are the .rpm files downloaded via yum stored in some specific folder, so that I can transfer those files via a flash drive to his computer and install them directly there?

4. Everytime and every session I try to access a ntfs partition, it asks for my root password. Any tricks to bypass this?
been using 11.2 with KDE on a Sony laptop since 11.2 was released always ran perfect suddenly I can't login, I get to the login screen type in password it begins to load my desktop, then fails and dumps me back to the login screen I can login as root, all my stuff is there (under /home/me) I tried changing my password, no luck I went to run level 3 and there I can login just fine seems to be something with my KDE profile
any ideas where I might find some error messages telling me what's going on?

I Googled how to, and every tutorial brought me to the "Login Screen Settings" dialog and told me to either drag and drop the .tar.gz theme into the window or press the "Install" button. However, drag and drop wouldn't work, and there was no "Install" button.

follow the instructions in the 'Install' document closely, i found after installing a different package manager called 'Yum Extender' which made things simpler for me, i installed the 'Gnome tweak tool', 'gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme'' and 'gnome-shell-extension-common'', but i also had to install the latest 'Murrine GTK2 engine' for the 'Zukitwo' theme to be recognised in the 'Gnome tweak tool', the location i chose to copy the Zukitwo folders to was.. /home/your username/.theme I'd like to now change just the style of the Fedora 15 login window(as in username/password popup box), but without changing my background wallpaper that being used, i have found a 'login' box style from a website below which i'd like to use.

is changing just this part of the 'login' box style possible without altering the exsisting background, and how might this be done?
I've tried to change the log-in screen on Fedora 15 (gnome3) to have a custom background, however none of the guides I've found have worked - I'm now left with a blue background with no image. They all follow the same instructions as this guide. (I did change the address and PID to my own ones, although the PID was always increasing everytime I typed it) If I type this into the terminal logged in as my user I just get my desktop background changing, although I'm assuming this is correct.

With the new changes to RHEL 6, and it being more inline with Fedora, how do you change the login screen background? I'm talking about the main login screen, not after you have logged in and need to change the desktop background. We use a custom background for machines in our lab, and need to implement this on 6.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI loose partial keyboard use after login. At first, I login, and can type about 1 word or so, then typing stops. I can use Ctl + Alt + Del to shutdown, restart or whatever. My volume and play stop, pause keys work when listening to music, but I have no pull downs. I can't use the Applications, Places, or System pull downs at all after the typing stops. However, I can still double-click things on the desktop, and I can also launch some launchers on the top system bar. I can browse the internet but no typing.
I once logged in, and did no typing for a couple hours. I just let it sit. Everything seemed normal until I started typing. Then it stopped typing, and no more pulldown menus. Another interesting fact is, I leave my computer on most of the time. I went away for 4 days and shut down my computer while I was gone. It was working fine when I shut it down, but then 4 days later when I boot back up, this crap starts. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Precision 670. The keyboard is wireless, but I have recently changed the batteries.
My small Arch Linux server with Apache and stuff (no X) got owned (DOS).Here's my problem:1) Apache went nuts with the memory and cpu usage -2) SSH shut down after a minute, so I went to the computer with an open root login and started typing...Nothing! I can't type anything, but I can switch VC's with alt+arrow keys, Ctrl+S activates scroll lock, caps and numlock works too.
