I'm a KDE user, but now i have time to learn gnome. Most things are easy and simple like in KDE but there is only one thing that is driving me mad. I cant set a icon for for a myme type. After looking for it on the net for about 1 hour I quit. I found only very complicated ways of doing that. Is there a simple way?
i was trying to follow a guid about how to change the icon for a specified file type (in my case .c,.h,.asm,cpp) , and that by adding the icon png to the /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/mimetypes/text-x-csrc.png
after following the procedure the icons for all .c files have changed but not in the file manager icon view
only in List view as you can see from the screenshot
I would like to be able to instruct Gnome to use a certain icon for a file type however I cannot find anything within Gnome to be able to get it done automatically. How does Gnome assign an icon to a file type? I really want to have Gnome display one of the fancy icons from OpenOffice.org for their Writer/Calc/Publish documents rather than the default icons that Ubuntu (Gnome) assigns to it.
I am using Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal with GNOME 2.32.1. I want to change icon of specific file type (like all files having .py or .pl extension). I Google it and have tried all the possible methods but nothing works
Is anyone else seeing the default icon in GNOME Shell instead of the usual Firefox icon? I am talking about the default icon that looks like a purple diamond.
It always shows a same icon, for every application which shows message tray icon. I just did some shell extension work after fresh installation of F15, nothing related on message tray. Don't know how to change it back.Dose anyone knows how to customize message tray icon for gnome-shell?
In my system around 73gb(pc-desktop) i have,1 primary partition(windows)-25gb, 1-extended partition(remaining gb) 3 logical partitions were there in (under) extended partition in one of the logical partition is d:drive. in my hard disk d: drive is -/dev/sda5
previosly i was fat -file system , (d:drive-/dev/sda5), i remember i changed the d: drive(d:drive-/dev/sda5) file system to ext4file system ,with following command using terminal
After doing(changing the file system)this one ,i couldnt see the d:drive data
By doing that
1q) Did i reformatted the partition? i think the new filesystem(ext4) has no knowledge of the data that was on it when it had a FAT filesystem.
2q) How to do undo operation,i tried to change the filesystem type to fat/ntfs in terminal using command --sudo mkfs -t FAT /dev/sda5.
Result:its showing text message-'mkfs.FAT: No such file or directory'(not in single quote)
I just loaded octave. I ran through a few examples of how to implement a script file. Everything works until I get to "plot". When I run the "plot" command I get the following.
octave:2> test1.m error: can't perform indexing operations for <unknown type> type sh: gnuplot: not found Just to double check my work, I ran the following code: y=[1 2 3]; plot(y);
I'm looking for a way to may the open windows show just an icon on the taskbar instead of the icon/text/rectangle that's default. Something similar to Windows 7.
I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
Ive had a few freeze ups on this system but the last time it affected the top panel. The wireless icon has disappeared to be replaced by an extra bluetooth icon.screenshot attached. Is there any kind of clean up utility (like tune up utilities in win)Also, any kind of log so I can trace this freeze up Iḿ getting.Ive only just got this laptop so dont know if it did it before although prev owner never mentioned it.
I lost the pictures and music icons on the places menu. When I browse the folders from nautilus I see the icons, but when I click on the places menu I see the regular folder icon and not the special pictures icon or music icon
Kwallet is off. Then I install a wireless device under WPA. Wired icon starts to change to wireless icon, but does not and goes back to wired icon. Hovering pointer over wired icon shows wired device installed as well as wireless device. How do I keep the wireless icon in place after installing WPA to wireless device?
I have just created an 11.3 64 bit image using susestudio. All seems well but would like to customize the desktop via my script that I have added. My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?
I have recently installed Faenza icon theme and just began to notice the inconsistency of icon emblems being displayed by compiz.Attached image shows the emblems of Chromium, Nautilus and Comix are that of the default icons, while Empathy andCompizConfigSettingsManager displayed the custom icon correctly. The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though. The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).
I'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:
Code: [Desktop Entry] X-SuSE-translate=true Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility; Comment=ETM Manager for time logging Exec=etmmanager code....
My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.
It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like Code: Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2
When I try to play any type of media file, It plays but can't fast forward or rewind plus there's no sound. I.e Avi , Mpg , Flash or anything, I can't even download the bad plugins because it says that there's a conflic with another repo that I've got installed. the only repos that I've got installed are the Main fedora one's , RPM fusion & adobe, so how do I installed the codecs to play anything proper on Fedora 11 cheers
I have downloaded many hindi fonts and installed them in the /usr/share/fonts but when i try to type in open office writer using them the fonts appear in plain english. How do i type in hindi fonts in open office
I just installed Fedora 13 and i noticed a very annoying problem. I cannot type in Cyrillic in any of GNOME`s applications, however i can type in Cyrillic in other programs - like Firefox for example. I`ve tried in Rhythmbox, network manager (the configuration dialogs), gedit, nautilus, etc. I`ve also tried in Firefox where it works and for now is my only non GNOME application. The curios thing is that Cyrillic does work in gnome-terminal... I am currently using Bulgarian phonetic traditional layout but i`ve also tried with Russian and Macedonian without success. My Fedora installation is fully updated.
I have windows7 with partition of C:40G, D:40G, E:70.I want to install fedora15,so I use the tool "Disk Management" of win7 to shrink E:.Then I have E:60G and 10G unallocated.
I use Liveusb-creator and boot from usb.It works well and I can use fedora15 just like livecd. But when I install fedora to hard disk,I meet a problem and I don't know how to solve it.
The installation procedure comes "Which type of installation would you like?".There's five options 1."Use All Space" 2."Replace Existing Linux System" 3."Shrink Current System" 4."Use Free Space" 5."Create Custom Layout".I've already got 10G unallocated space,so I select "Use Free Space".But the problem is that the fedora installer popups a messagebox says something that means that I don't have enough space to allocate to fedora15.
I come back to "Which type of installation would you like?" and select "Create Custom Layout".The installer display 4 entries of my hard disk:sda1 unknown 0M, sda2 100M windows remain partition, sda3 with capacity 39900M, sda4 with capacity 112625M.The partition display of my hard disk is so strange and there is no free space.
Is the problem of win7 "Disk Management" or "Fedora Installer"? How can I really get some free space to install fedora15?
After some update, I cannot type accented characters in any KDE app. I'm using a spanish keyboard and I have checked that the system keyboard layout is set correctly. If I try to type a character like what I get instead is a "a".Non KDE apps work fine. Can it be a IBus related problem? By the way, I'm using IBus 1.3.99.20110608.
How do I get arch/processor type at a particular root? On Solaris, I can get it by running "pkgparam -R "$alt_root" SUNWcsu" (SUNWcsr) Wonder if something similar for Linux exists? I know that 'uname -p' works for the current system, but I am looking to find arch for a system mounted at some root.
I tried xdg-desktop-icon command. It does install a shortcut. The shortcut works when double clicked. But the shortcut is shown as a standard icon, not the icon defined in the .desktop file. Do I miss something?
