Red Hat / Fedora :: Magic Set Editor - No File Type Associated
May 25, 2009
I am having trouble getting a certain program to work. It's called Magic Set Editor and it has a linux version. It seems to install fine, but when I press the link to run the program it always says there is no file type associated with this program. Here is the site to download it: [URL]. I've tried the full and reduced versions, and I tried building it from source, which I have no idea how to do. I am using Fedora 10. Also, I've gone to their linux guy and he tried to help, but has never used Fedora, and so nothing he said worked.
when I type "crontab -e" to edit the file, it is not opening in the editor & showing output as "285". I just wanted to edit crontab, So could anybody please tell me which is the real file of crontab, so I can manually edit that file using vi editor or nano. Or if that default editor is corrupted when I type "crontab -e", how can I change default editor before using "crontab -e" command. I will be waiting for your kind reply
In my system around 73gb(pc-desktop) i have,1 primary partition(windows)-25gb, 1-extended partition(remaining gb) 3 logical partitions were there in (under) extended partition in one of the logical partition is d:drive. in my hard disk d: drive is -/dev/sda5
previosly i was fat -file system , (d:drive-/dev/sda5), i remember i changed the d: drive(d:drive-/dev/sda5) file system to ext4file system ,with following command using terminal
After doing(changing the file system)this one ,i couldnt see the d:drive data
By doing that
1q) Did i reformatted the partition? i think the new filesystem(ext4) has no knowledge of the data that was on it when it had a FAT filesystem.
2q) How to do undo operation,i tried to change the filesystem type to fat/ntfs in terminal using command --sudo mkfs -t FAT /dev/sda5.
Result:its showing text message-'mkfs.FAT: No such file or directory'(not in single quote)
After installing skype from rpm I wanted to add a skype repo for future updates. As root I did 'touch skype.repo' and tried to open by 'kwrite skype.repo' but get the undermentioned error. As a user I can open the empty file with the command 'kwrite skype repo' but cannot save it as I am informed that I only have read access.
Code: [root@localhost yum.repos.d]# kwrite skype.repo kwrite(2391): Session bus not found
What file system choices do I have for fedora 14, what is suggested and can parted magic provide that system?I am loading fedora on the second hard drive of my laptop with windows 7 and XP pro on the other hard drive and I will also be repartitioning and reformating the first hard drive because windows 7 is 64 bit and the xp is 32.
When I try to play any type of media file, It plays but can't fast forward or rewind plus there's no sound. I.e Avi , Mpg , Flash or anything, I can't even download the bad plugins because it says that there's a conflic with another repo that I've got installed. the only repos that I've got installed are the Main fedora one's , RPM fusion & adobe, so how do I installed the codecs to play anything proper on Fedora 11 cheers
I just started taking a Unix/Linux programming class. We will be using the vi editor. I have been trying to figure out how to install it on my Ubuntu 10.4 and not having much luck. I type "vi" in terminal window and it comes up with VIM - Vi IMproved and some other text. Is there more to start the vi editor? I am pretty green with installing programs in Ubuntu.
How do i type in an address into Nautilus (default file-browser in Gnome DE)? By default it shows me the folders as buttons instead of a typable url-type space, how do i change it to a white space i can key-into?
Netbeans 6.8 Ubuntu 10.04: I add php to netbeans and when I type $ gksu netbeans its open netbeans without php editor. Only when I type $ sudo netbeans its open it properly
I'm working on a midrange NAS system basically running on Linux and I got to do some great testing today. The step-by-step lead me to using fsdb to corrupt the magic number on a file system in order to corrupt it / test the script that should fix it.
Has anyone found a good cloning program like pq magic etc. I looked at clonezilla but could not find a dload for fedora/redhat (would installing it via tarball work?)
I am currently running RedHat 6.1 Workstation. The Gnome Bluetooth software does not find my Apple Magic Touchpad. What should I do? I tried scanning by doing "hcitool scan". It did not appear to find it. I am using a USB to Bluestem adapter called D-Link DBT-120.
I'm new to Ubuntu . With windows when you install a app it creates a folder in the drive:c under programs : Where is the install folder on Ubuntu ? AND ' with windows ' there is an exe file ' what type of file is like the exe file''' to run ? or the path to run the app ?
I am writting a script to allow uploading of certain files. I want to limit the files by their filename and mime type, and by making sure the two match up.The first thing I need to do is make sure I've got all the mime types I need added. I have never done this before, but I understand that 'file' (which is what PHP's mime-type finding is based off of) uses magic databases that tell at which point in the file should have signatures of the filetype.
My trouble started when I was unable to determine the filetype of any of my video files. Currently, I have some .MOV and .MP4 files that I am using to test.
I want to be able to play a video file on my pda(Tungsten T5) but from memory the only video file i have seen playable on it was the asf file that is used when it starts up/reboots. I tried other file types in the past that were suggested in maybe a manual or forum or something but they never worked/played. I think it is because of the player installed and i tried installing another player but from memory that didn't install properly or just did not play anything. So if anyone knows of a way to convert files maybe using winff or mencoder i would love that info. I have been googling and have found nothing specific to what i am asking. I do not see anything in winff to convert to asf and cannot remember ever using mencoder.
I put a text file on my desktop and added a couple lines of text with gedit. File type shows text/plain. Double-click opens the file in gedit which is what I want. I'm using the file to temporarily hold some snips of code that I copy from file to file, but when I copy some html into the file and save it, now file properties show it's text/html and a double-click opens the file in firefox, which isn't what I want. Is there some way to keep the file type from changing itself?
On windows I really only used Notepad++ as my text editor, it had two features that I loved. What I need to accomplish is what I would do with Notepad++ column editor.I could have like 100 lines, and place the cursor at a column, and goto edit>column editor, and I could insert an incrementing number. (I could also pad the incrementing number with 0s, this was GREAT for making batch files among other things.)So each line at that column had a number higher than the previous line. The other feature that I used sometimes was a search/replace with regex patterns.Does anyone know of an editor that has those features for linux? I am mostly after the column editor insert feature but if you know of one with both features that would rock.
Gif files display their length at the start of the file, and zip files have a table with the locations of the files at the end of the file. By combining the two it's possible to create a gif file which, when opened in an archive manager, contains hidden files. How would I go about doing this? Do I have to learn the zip standard and manually graft the files together in a hex editor?
Code: cat input.jpg input.zip > output.jpg The zip table must show the file location as an offset to the central directory.
I have a file of 200 pages. I want to move my cursor page wise. Suppose I want to move my cursor from last page of the file to up three pages. Is there any command to do it or I use "k" to move up?
Trying to get this server to work and abandoned trying to do it with Xubuntu last night and installed Ubuntu server. But now I'm stuck on Samba again as I decided to use the vi editor to edit the smb.conf file and now I can't get out of it.
On this Red Hat Box that I am using there is no .vimrc file for the user root. So, I created one and entered only one line to highlight syntax with colors when I am writing scripts in PHP and Bash. But it is not working.
