Fedora :: File Share Option Is Greyed Out In Empathy
Jun 12, 2011
The file share option is greyed out in Empathy. I also don't get any notification when a file is sent to me, but I am notified when a file transfer has been canceled. Any ideas as to why I can't transfer files?
I want to run my Debian install in AHCI mode on my computer. It runs perfectly fine, all drivers etc work perfectly also. The computer itself is in RAID mode but with all 4 RAID channels disabled (I refuse to use any RAID arrays because I simply don't like them). However, my computer (Acer Aspire m3640/m5640, motherboard MCP73PV/630i) has greyed out the option for me to change the option from RAID mode to either IDE or AHCI. Since I do not use RAID at all, I want to change to AHCI but it is greyed out in the BIOS. This option wasn't greyed out before as far as I remember.
I also have Vista x64 installed on a SATA drive along with Debian all partitioned. I also have an empty IDE drive attached which will be used for another operating system AFTER I have changed to AHCI mode. The SATA drive has the boot flag. I use GRUB to boot the operating system. My BIOS version from American Megatrends is R01-A3 (not the latest one, but the one I need to use). My question is this, how could one possibly go about as to changing it to AHCI mode from RAID with the BIOS greying the option out. how to make the BIOS ungrey the option (if there is another option preventing it from being changed or if the harddrives need configuring etc). I am not particularly concerned if the drives need to be wiped.
I am attempting to share a folder from an existing drive that has been formatted in NTFS. I simply right click on the folder, goto share, and I can see the option to share to UNIX and that works with no problems. My question is; why is the SAMBA sharing dialog grayed out?
I don't like having to click twice to do what I had happen automatically in Pidgin - that is, open up my new messages in Empathy. It's just cumbersome - is there any hack or option for this, or should I merely go back to Pidgin for now? I really like Empathy, but this is just annoying.
For some reason, my latest Fedora 11 install + yum update does not seem to have the option to connect to a Windows Share in the drop down list when I select Connect to Share. I'm using gnome.Does anyone have any ideas which packages provide this functionality.
When I go to connect my computer to my wireless internet the option for wireless is greyed out as well as Wired, Mobile Broadband and DSL. I was able to connect to my wireless internet with no problems when I tried it on the Live CD so is this happening now? I have only just installed it, I am running 32-bit OpenSUSE 11.4 KDE.
I've setup a samba share with RecycleBin option. However, there is no cleanup and soon will saturate free space.
I'm trying to plan a command that each week clean the content of those dir or the directory itself.
The dir tree is like /home/ :user1 Dir1 Dir2 RecycleBin
[Code].....
To be careful to all possible situations I'm testing this line in directory with spaces in names. I know is ugly and ... and ... but users are just used to and they don't care about me And, having this line working for spaces I can use it for other situations other than shares.
File o directory non esistente = File or directory does not exist
I have small sound issue - no sound on front panel and headphones are greyed out in alsamixer. This issue appeared after i installed new video card (New video card also adds a pseudo audio device "HDA Nvidia" (without any controls in alsamixer).
My clock needs to be set to usa time with am and pm But I don't see any option to select that? So I read online that I need to edit /etc/adjtime and change it from UTC to LOCAL
Problem is when I'm in the terminal it tells me I'm not in the sudoers file? So how do I fix my clock? its insane that I cant change the option in the clock options, and its also nuts that even though I created a root password I can't seem to just sudo and change it?
When installing Samba and Webmin I use the application "system-config-services" or (if it is easier to find for you that way) menu->Administration->Service management. In this application I can start the services I need (nmb, smb, webmin), but the enable/disable at startup setting is greyed out... Even when I start the application as root it still gives me no possibility to configure the services to start up on boot. This should be possible. It works this way in Fedora 13 and Fedora 14, so why not in Fedora 15?
Before reporting a bug, I would like to ask if other users here have the same problem (and -if possible- a solution)... In the mean tim I guess it is back to the old way of configurating services - sigh..
[edit] I tried to remove the [SOLVED] from the title, but the forum software does not seems to allow me to do that... I thought it was solved by installing xinetd, but I was happy a bit too early. I still have no answer for this problem.
i've fedora 10 both on my server and on my client, i'm using nfs to share files between this two machines but sometimes on the client, in nautilus some files disappear when i'm in the nfs-shares, and sometimes if i refresh, they appear again and sometimes not
I have this old eMachines on which I've been running RedHat for about 7 years. It is kernel 2.4 and I wanted to upgrade to a newer kernel so I can run a newer version of some server software I use.
I was debating whether to upgrade to Fedora 12 or Ubuntu, and some other person recommended, "definitely Fedora" so here I am.
The CD-ROM downloaded fine. I was able to boot and install Fedora fine. But I'm stuck at the network settings.
None of the screens *quite* match what is in the quick or detailed installation guide at the Fedora site.
The main problem I have is I'm trying to manually set a couple of fixed IP addresses. I am in "Editing System eth0" now. If I switch the method from "Automatic" to "Manual" the Apply button turns greyed out, and stays that way even after I enter the address, netmask, gateway (router address I assume?) and a DNS server address.
how to get a right click option to encrypt a file in nautilus. Per the subject line, right click works ok in the other two applications but doesn't seem to have integrated into nautilus. (both KGpg and Seahorse are installed and each seems to work correctly).
When running the beta of blender 2.5, I get the following error. blender: error while loading shared libraries: libpython2.5.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory In previous versions of ubuntu you could 'apt-get install python2.5' to resolve the issue, but it doesn't appear in any/all of the repositories. where I can get python2.5 for lucid-lynx?
There is this bug in the latest version of Ubuntu, which is also Jessie, which is:
Can't copy a file from SMB share to the local file system: Software caused connection abort
The problem, apparently, is that newer versions of Samba hit servers with multiple requests at the same time, and for some reason the Zyxel and Iomega boxes can't handle this. The best solution they've come up with is to modify the smb.conf file on your server to include this setting: "max mux = 1".
Here is the reference material on this bug: [URL] ....
People who develop samba have fixed it in the latest version but neither the ubuntu nor Debian have released the fixed version of nautilus, as of yet. Here, is the reference: [URL] ....
I have iMac 2.4GHz with rEFIT installed. I installed Unity on one of the partition. Kernel is still 2.6.38.8. I am getting error message when I run the command sudo gedit /etc/x11/xorg.conf
The error message is
(gedit:2139): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Failed to create file '/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.AC7YXV': No such file or directory
(gedit:2139): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: No such file or directory
Recently jumped from Ubuntu to Fedora 12 over the weekend, has been quite the bumpy ride. Though fun of course. But I'm having trouble coming to a solution for this problem, that started today. When signing into both Empathy or Pidgin (only with msn account) they both just hang on the white screen inactive... I say "inactive" the program hasn't frozen I just cannot be signed in. Also, in Pidgin at the bottom, next to where it shows your status, it has;
This is been going on all day. No MSN in Pidgin, and MSN on and off in Empathy. As always, I suspect Microsoft has something to do with this and wish I didn't need to use MSN. On the other hand, a laptop sitting next to me with Ubuntu connects with no problem.
On the 19/20th October (2010) MS appear to have changed something in their MSN servers and Empathy on F13 (v2.30.3) no longer connects. Instead you get a Red bar saying there is an error, bu no other real info apart from '500' network errors (not even in the logs).Discussion on the Ubuntu lists has confirmed + identified the culprit and a workaround has been posted. Cludos to 'Kakaroto' and 'Dennis Tring' on that list!
I have Empathy running on Fedora 11 ( Dell Precision M6300 laptop). I downloaded some themes from [URL] after following some of the on-line instructions I still don't see the themes from within Empathy. I suspect I have the files in the wrong directory. What is the right directory to put the /*.AdiumMessageStyle folders?
I am trying to setup empathy to use yahoo im. I have searched and searched and apparently I cannot find a resolution. Does this work for anyone? Is there another IM option that will? I can connect to msn without error, but for yahoo account, i just get a network error.
In Fedora 13, Empathy 2.30.1-2 doesn't connect to Facebook Chat, giving just "Network error". Of course, I know that user must set his username in Facebook.
