Yesterday I ran updates that moved me from kernel Fedora (2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686.PAE) to Fedora (2.6.34.7-63.fc13.i686.PAE). After reboot my system hangs trying to start X. I can use altF2 and log in that way but when I try to start X it fails - no screen found. I backed off to my previous kernel and used the package manager to remove the updated kernel and noticed that when it uninstalled it did not take any kmod packages with it. I assume not having an associated kmod may have been the problem? If so, how do I find the correct one to install?
relevant info:
Fedora 13 32 bit PAE (KDE spin)
video card - nvidia 460gtx
video driver - nvidia 260.19.21
I put kmod for nvidia driver on my Fedora 9 ! I update kernel and now when i try to start blender i have this errors :
Code:
blender Compiled with Python version 2.5.1. Checking for installed Python... got it! ERROR: Unable to open Blender window

I download blender 2.48 and 2.49 Rc static version ! [URL] But is started old version 2.48a . If i try to start from gnome menu ( graphics ..) blender 2.48a but not working !
getting KVM Kernel modules installed under Fedora 14? I'm trying to do a post-installation setup of KVM. I'm getting the "No package kmod-kvm available." error, when doing "yum install kmod-kvm".
Every time I attempted to run "yum update" dependencies failed to resolve citing kernel version problems. I cleaned out a bunch of old versions of kmod-wl that were still on my system (some dating back to my old f12 install) and still had no luck. Finally I removed kmod-wl altogether so that I could update the rest of my system and hoped I could just re-install it once the update was finished. No dice. "yum install kmod-wl" still produces this message (identical to what "yum update" gave when the old kmod-wl was installed):
after yesterday's update to kernel 2.6.35.10-72 my grub.conf didn't get updated and ll /boot shows that neither vmlinuz or initramfs exist for that kernel. uname -r though tells me I'm running 2.6.35.10-72.
How can I do that? and on another more reallystic matter how can I generate the missing files so I can manually update grub.conf?
about 10 days ago i have update my f14 with the last kernel , but now i have some dependency problem and my wireless doesn't work with the new kernel ...
Code:
[root@atom ~]# uname -a Linux atom 2.6.35.9-64.fc14.i686 #1 SMP Fri Dec 3 12:35:42 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux [root@atom ~]# [root@atom ~]#
opensuse v11.2linux 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop x86_64The kernel symbol file is still at 2.6.31.3. Apparently the symbol file did not get updated with the rest of the kernel development files. At least one program does not build because of that
I used the update manager to update the kernel and whatever the other recommended updates were yesterday. I shut the computer down overnight and now when i try to boot into Ubuntu 9.10 i get a basic grub shell and when i try commands like "boot" it tells me there is no kernel loaded. I installed Ubuntu with Wubi so it is a dual boot system.
I've tried to access the Linux volume with a live OpenSuse 11 CD but there is no device to mount. It sees the entire hard-drive as if it hasn't been partitioned. I don't necessarily need to fix the installation. I just need to get my files back.
Everything's working fine except for this error I get during bootup: udev: missing sysfs features; please update the kernel or disable the kernel's CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED option. udev may fail to work correctly
I don't know what to do with this. I built the kernel using the genkernel script. I'm using kernel 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 on an amd64 processor
From F12 to F13. Is there anything I should remove before updating? I have few programs isntalled from source/binary installers in /usr for example. Would it cause problems?
And is there any chance to be able to switch from a 32 bit kernel to 64 bit kernel during the update? The hardware is capable of this.
Anyone know what happened here or what I need to do? I'm running Fedora 12 and had the nvidia video driver setup and working perfectly from rpmfusion repo ... I just did a yum update and now my display is stuck on 800X600 ....
Everytime time I do an update I need to recreate a symbolic link to libssl.so.6 ln libssl.so.1.0.0.c libssl.so.6 Why I should do that manualy? What can I do to fix and have the system to do it
The problem is that I need to use kernel headers like <linux/interrupt.h>. However, those files do not exist in folder /usr/include/linux. Thus, compilation fails. On the other hand, the files exist in folder /usr/src/kernels/2.6.30.10-105.2.4.fc11.i586/include/linux.
How can I get the missing headers into proper place in /usr/include/? I even tried coping, but extra files are then needed and so on.
I tried to use "make menuconfig", but I couldn't see a missing configuration I need.
I also tried to use " yum install kernel-devel". This tells me "Package kernel-devel 2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.i586 already installed and latest version Nothing to do".
I just recently updated my firefox and now I cannot find it anywhere. I have tried yum reinstall firefox and I get the following:

I updated my fedora 12 installation the other day, and have been working since then to try to get my computer back to working order. Here's what's up: I ran a yum update and restarted the computer. When it booted back up I couldn't see anything but a black screen where there should've been a login screen. I can do terminal stuff if I hit ctrl+F2, so keep that in mind. I've determined that the problem is that kmod-nvidia-2.6.32.10-90.fc12.x86_64-195.36.15-1.fc12.1.x86_64 didn't get installed during the update process for some reason. I tried to yum install this file through my terminal access, but it didn't recognize any internet connection (neither wired nor wireless). I've downloaded the kmod-nvidia file to my Windows XP partition, and have also put it on my flash drive. So I need to know one of three things: How to access a Windows partition from terminal, how to access a flash drive from terminal, or how to connect to the internet from terminal so I can get the kmod file.
When I install the most recent Linux Kernel: kernel-2.6.34.6-54.fc13 (i686) The installation process removes: Linux Kernel: kernel-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13 (i686) Plus NVIDIA: kmod-nvidia-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i686-1:195.36.31-1.fc13.2 (i686)
This results in Nvidia.ko not being found during the subsequent restart - the remove activity deletes it from the system. Prior to this activity Nvidia.ko is found in: /lib/modules/2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i696/extra/nvidia. Without Nvidia.ko the display is set to 800x600 resolution. This is the first time I have encountered this problem with a Fedora Linux Kernel update. Will this problem be fixed in a subsequent update, if so when? If not fixed, where do we find the proper Nvidia.ko module? Also, how do you recommend we install it?
downgrade also does not work. I just updated F12 to F13 using DVD and this occured. Also prevents me from doing "full" yum system update, these packages always fail. I do not understand the problem, it says that perl-libs 5.10.1-112 requires perl-libs 5.10.1-112, but I have that installed.
I'm using fedora 15 64-bit. Today i was prompted to install some updates, most of them are related to mesa driver updates. Once installed those, I rebooted the system. After login again, i couldn't find any of my files or folders. The hidden files & folders are remain there but rest all were gone. Now my account looks like newly created one. All of my important documents are missing.

This is the first time I have encountered this problem with a Fedora Linux Kernel update.

Trying "yum update": Gives the following error.
Code:
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: libssl.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly.
It's possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is:
Additional info: Last update in log is from march 11. But has nothing to do with yum, ssl or python.
I'm having troubles running systemtap scripts. It fails to run with message:
Code:
Checking "/lib/modules/2.6.33.3-85.fc13.i686/build/.config" failed: No such file or directory Ensure kernel development headers & makefiles are installed.
Then I typed:
Code:
$rpm -q kernel kernel-devel kernel-debuginfo kernel-2.6.33.3-85.fc13.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.33.5-124.fc13.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.33.6-147.fc13.i686 package kernel-debuginfo is not installed
So no kernel-debuginfo, a package which I cannot find in repo. So where to get it and why it's not included in default installation if SystemTap is. It's like having Apache without tcp/ip stack.
I generally check what updates are being installed. This time sadly I didn't and again this kernel had one missing module. VirtualBox-OSE stopped working. It had been working fine with other upgrades. No it's not a problem with dkms or other stuff. This kernel doesn't have vboxdrv module like other kernels...i verified it...
[Code]...
The 2.6.38.8 version doesn't have vboxdrv module!....hence again I have to roll back to older kernel. So before blindly upgrading....read this message!
I got the following errors in spite of having both the packages installed. What can be done?

I have just got rid of Ubuntu in favor of Fedora, after more than ten years using Debian and Ubuntu. Most differences are pretty minimal but one big difference I haven't been able to master yet is the realm of rpm and yum. My kernel is 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64. Today, when running yum update I was greeted with a number of errors.
Output of yum check: Code: Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit glibc-2.14-5.x86_64 is a duplicate with glibc-2.14-4.x86_64 glibc-common-2.14-5.x86_64 is a duplicate with glibc-common-2.14-4.x86_64 1:perl-Module-Pluggable-3.90-160.fc15.noarch is a duplicate with 1:perl-Module-Pluggable-3.90-159.fc15.noarch 1:perl-Module-Pluggable-3.90-160.fc15.noarch has missing requires of perl = ('4', '5.12.4', '160.fc15') 1:perl-Pod-Escapes-1.04-160.fc15.noarch is a duplicate with 1:perl-Pod-Escapes-1.04-159.fc15.noarch 1:perl-Pod-Escapes-1.04-160.fc15.noarch has missing requires of perl = ('4', '5.12.4', '160.fc15') 1:perl-Pod-Simple-3.13-160.fc15.noarch is a duplicate with 1:perl-Pod-Simple-3.13-159.fc15.noarch 1:perl-Pod-Simple-3.13-160.fc15.noarch has missing requires of perl = ('4', '5.12.4', '160.fc15') I have also attached the output of yum update, which I believe is more verbose on the sources, etc.
I'm afraid that if I just start forcing removal of packages I'll render my system useless.
