Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Open Gstreamer Properties From Terminal
May 23, 2010
I opened gstreamer-properties from the terminal. Following some directions from another thread, I changed the output to "custom" and filled in a box with a bunch of code that I didn't know anything about. I pressed "test" and it didn't work. Out of frustration, I deleted the text I had written in the box and closed gstreamer-properties. Now it won't open back up. When I try to open it from the terminal I get:
That's it. It won't open and when I try to open it directly from its source folder, nothing happens at all. How can I open it back up so I can continue to fiddle with it and (hopefully) fix this blue-tint problem.
I'm not sure this is the cause, but after I changed the properties of gstreamer, by following a fix on VLC freezing during video playback, I cannot control my desktop anymore.Luckily I can still switch windows thanks to docky. Unfortunately I cannot change the tab in the gstreamer-properties so I can reset my change. I changed the video from default to X11.How can I edit it manually from the command line?
Usually I try to fix things on my own, which btw always ends up failing So the other day I got an update of some packages, I installed them and restarted the pc. When I was back in ubuntu, the speaker icon on my panel was gone, and so was the audio settings for pulse too. When I went to system > pref > sound I got an error. So now I decided to ditch pulse. Pulse have always given me problems btw. I installed alsa, but couldn't get the shortcuts for up, down and mute to work. This is important to me because idk where the audio button on my laptop is (ASUS). So I tweaked around for awhile and decided to go for OSS since it's the only option that will allow me to record both out and ingoing audio, which is an option I use a lot. So I tweaked around and all that stuff, and now I'm very frustrated.
I have come to the conclusion that my audio card is unrecognized now. I think I have every single ALSA / OSS driver, plugin and codec installed. Ok here's the audio card info I got from the command lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Cougar Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05) 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be9 (rev a1) So the card is some how recognized by the system but not according to gstreamer-properties.
This might seem like an odd problem, but I can't find gstreamer-properties on my system. Also I can't find a package that provides it. I have tried the following gstreamer gstreamer-tools gnome-media control-center control-center-extras control-center-filesystem
None of those seem to provide the file. can someone who has gstreamer-properties do a Code: rpm -f gstreamer-properties and let me know what rpm provides that file ?
When I set up a Virtual Machine with windows (using VMPlayer), I set the Network Connection properties from the VM settings from NAT to bridged. Then I proceed to set the following IP Properties in the OS (see image below) so that the Virtual Windows OS becomes part of my network. How do I set the same IP Properties on a Linux machine (I use CentOS) using terminal? If its any file that needs to be edited please let me know which. I wish to set up the virtual Linux machine similar to how my Virtual Windows machines are set up.
I dont know why but I cant open the appearance properties anymore. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.(Details: serial 693 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
I have a newly installed Kubuntu 10.04 running here, works fine except for one thing.
I have a kind of "fileserver" and it has a samba share that I have mounted in the home folder of my desktop computer ("/home/xxx/fileserver", the server is running an older version of Ubuntu, can't exactly remember what it is but the filesystem is ext2, if that's of any importance).
I have large files on the server, mostly video. When I use Dolphin (or Konqueror, doesn't make any difference) and right click one of these large files and choose Properties, it takes a LONG time to load the properties window. As if it copies the file to local hd before opening properties, or something.
The reason why I posted here and not in the networking section is, that I had the exact same setup with my previous installation which was Kubuntu 8.04, and also at least three different Ubuntu's before that. Never had this problem before, so I think my server and networking thingies are okay.
I incorrectly changed the command under Folder Properties to open all folders with the wrong program rather than the Ubuntu default program. I now can't open the folder properties screen using the right mouse button. How do I get back to the properties screen so I can change this back to the default open folder command?
I'm trying to write a script that opens up vlc, opens up the playlist, and then opens up my music folder. So thus it looks like this so far;
Code: #!/bin/bash
vlc & # command to open up vlc playlist gnome-open /media/files/multimedia/music However, I seem to have no clue as to how to open vlc's playlist from a command. I know the hotkey for opening the playlist is "ctrl + L" but I don't know if this is useful at all.
I updated my Jessie system today. Nothing crucial in the apt-get list as far as I can see, perhaps it's unrelated. Anyway, now I cannot open the terminal any longer. Launching `gnome-terminal` shows the app name in the menu bar, a spinning wheel, and then after a few seconds nothing. It doesn't appear in the list of processes, either. I can still log into the text shell via ctrl-alt-F1.
I also added `LC_TIME="en_GB.UTF-8"` to `/etc/environment` to get rid of the American date format. Could it be the cause? I just tried to launch the terminal from the JVM. I get this output:
Code: Select all(process:2629): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale. Error constructing proxy for org.gnome.Terminal:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.Terminal: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process org.gnome.Terminal exited with status 8
I will delete the environment variable again and reboot, but I wonder if I can still have the British date format?
Gnome Forum have told me that changing the appearance of gdm I run: sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties but I get this error: (Gnome-properties-Appearance: 18 047): Gtk-WARNING **: can not open display:
When I try to convert an mp3 to an ogg file with gstreamer like this:
Code: gst-launch-0.10 -v filesrc location=infile.mp3 ! decodebin2 location=infile.mp3 ! audioconvert ! vorbisenc ! oggmux ! filesink location=outfile.ogg everything works file, but when I add a bitrate option to vorbisenc, like this
I had been having trouble with Banshee playing podcasts and it turned into a bigger problem. I use VLC so I hadn't noticed, but Totem (and Gstreamer as a whole) can't seem to play h.624 video. All I get is audio, even when I do a command like
(Well, now I get nothing, but more on that in a moment).
So I tried reinstalling Gstreamer, and I just tried updating to the Gstreamer Developer PPA. The only change that came from that is that now nothing happens instead of just hearing audio. I've attached the output.
I've gone into gstreamer-properties and tried every configuration. Each time I see the colored stripes and the snowy video corner, but it never seems to make a difference.
When I try to open the "Properties" tab after right clicking a .CR2 file I just get a blank box and it seems to crash .. I've tried this on two different machines with 11.04 installed ..
I was trying to convert a flac audio to mp3 using soundconverter & its failing with the error:
Quote:
GStreamer error: Gstreamer encountered a general stream error.
I should note that the flac is a rip of an actual Mono Vinyl disc. Am not exactly sure how that was done but I was interested in converting some those files to ogg & mp3. OGG conversion doesn't give any error.
Below is the result when launching soundconverter from the terminal & trying to convert the flac file(s) to mp3 (i just tried ogg to mp3 & the same error occurs):
Code: $ soundconverter SoundConverter 1.4.4 using Gstreamer version: 0.10.28, Python binding version: 0.10.18 using gio
I've fallen in love with Terminator as a replacement for the standard gnome-terminal app.
However, I'm also very much in the habit of using the nautilus-open-terminal extension for launching new terminal sessions.
I'd like nautilus-open-terminal to launch Terminator rather than gnome-terminal.
A quick search of my system and the web didn't reveal anything. i didn't find a gconf setting to control this. A quick look at the source code didn't help much either.
I have just installed my gstreamer on my ARM board. In that i used to play the video by using command "gst-launch filesrc location=/root/yuvraj.mp4 ! mfw_mp4demuxer ! queue max-size-time=0 ! mfw_vpudecoder ! mfw_v4lsink"it is working fine. but the screen is very small and it is in middle, How to make that full screen and the letters which is in terminal is also coming along with the video. how rectify that problem
I'm installing Sound Juicer to rip CDs. The notes say it wants "gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad (not available in Debian) to encode to AAC." Now I don't know as I'll want to encode to AAC (I primarily plan to rip to .wav for burning compilation CDs), but I figure I might as well grab it, for completeness . I noticed, on Google'ing for info on that package, comments that seem to indicate its functionality has been replaced by gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. So, do I still "need" gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad?
Up until recently I have had no problem playing all kinds of video in Ubuntu. I recently upgraded to Lucid and I can't remember if I was able to play videos after that, but yesterday I found that I am unable to play flv or MP4 videos in either totem or vlc. Converting them to ogv using ffmpeg allows them to play just fine, and I can edit the flv and mp4 in Avidemux, so there is nothing wrong with the files themselves. Not sure what I've done, can't seem to find a bug in launchpad for this, so I am assuming it is a problem with my setup somehow.
Just installed Clementine audio player, but it won't play mp4s. It says gstreamer is missing a plugin, google search turned up some leads but they didn't lead anywhere. Mp4s work fine in Amarok, and i have already installed the restricted extras package.
i bought an obscure video/mp3 player from china recently, and one day, i managed to use AVIDEMUX to succesfully transfer video to it. However, i dont remember the settings AT ALL. I open the working video file with AVIDEMUX, and check out the properties, but there is option in the lists to the left to convert to the video type that is open. Is there anyway to export the video properties, then convert any video, to those parameters?
I'm trying to set up my webcam on my Dell Inspiron 700m in which I have 10.04 installed. However, whenever I open any application that uses the webcam (C250 Logitech) it crashes my entire system (Some text flashes but it is too quick to read and then my screen becomes black). I tried Skype, Cheese, Camorama, and testing from GStreamer-properties, and all of them had the same result. However, using:
