View 1 RepliesAfter finally getting my 3d graphics configured (thanks to leigh123linux!) I now am trying to tackle my sound issue. The end result is that I want to play equake (from loki installers). The game seems to run fine, except that I get no sound.
Now I know that OSS sound is going the way of the dinosaur in favor of Alsa, but I know people with older distributions have got OSS emulation working. I have all the alsa-oss packages installed that are available in my repos, but I still cannot get any sound in equake.
Also, I have tried the wrapper program, padsp, with no success.
Code:
[tja@area51m ~]$ padsp equake
/dev/dsp: No such file or directory
Now I know why there is no /dev/dsp device file anymore, but my question is simply, what do I have to do to get OSS emulation working? As I mentioned, I have the alsa-oss packages installed.
[Code]....
Is there a program like Downloader for X aka d4x, that is available that does the same thing? d4x isn't in the repos.

Im running debian lenny amd_64, but I have another machine here that also runs the 32 bit os, also have a friend who is trying to get this to work to o on ubuntu amd_64. Long story short wed like to play some quake 2, I tried to run it under wine with no success, and why run it with emulation(or the likes) when it was ported to linux. Anyway with some painstaking effort I have got it to run if I run it with the software X11 rendering it runs but the graphics are squished, and only take up the left half of the screen but the MOUSE DOES WORK just fine.
I am able to run it now in the other rendering glx, soft, but when I run it everything works graphics look great, but the MOUSE DOES NOT WORK at all. Ive seen some things saying that gpm maybe locking it and I need to shut it down, that being said I cant find out how to shut it down for debian or ubuntu or evidence that its even running in the processes of my system, I've tried killing the gnome manager but I still have the same problem.
I've also tried the icculus port, and the installers, but both seem to FUBAR quake 2, and were a pain in the ass to even compile. I've been able to get the id version running just fine with other than this hiccup.
Ive also heard I may need to chmod the mouse device file if so where is it?
How do I stop GPM on a debian/ubuntu system? If you know this is not the problem, what do I need to do to get the mouse to work?
Wheres the mouse device file so I can Chmod it? If all else fails how do I get the gfx to not screw up when using softx?
I have a launcher for Quake that essentially runs a shell scripts that runs quakespasm with certain options. Is there a way to add it to AWN?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOne of the few things that keeps me hanging onto my Windows partition is the Amazon.com MP3 Downloader. There's a way to download Debian 5, Ubuntu 9.04, OpenSUSE, and Fedora packages, but they've never worked in Debian-based distro's that I've used in the past (Ubuntu, Mint, Crunchbang).Has anyone found a way around this that I haven't found yet?

View 5 Replies View Relatedhas anyone been successful in using the Amazon MP3 downloader on 11.2? It does no longer work because it wants specific (old) versions of libboost*:
[krienke@bliss:~/tmp] 1001 > /usr/bin/amazonmp3
/usr/bin/amazonmp3: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_filesystem.so.1.36.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[krienke@bliss:~/tmp] 1002 > locate libboost_filesystem
/usr/lib/libboost_filesystem-mt.so
/usr/lib/libboost_filesystem.so
/usr/lib/libboost_filesystem.so.1.39.0
I notified Amazon about this, and they said they do not know if or when there will be a running version of the MP3 downloader available and without it there is no way to download any MP3 from Amazon. They gave me back my money and recommended to buy elsewhere....
Does anyone know if installing the old version of libboost (from 11.1) will work? What else, aside from amazons downloader, does use libboost*? So what app might fail if I install the old version of libboost suitable for the downloader?
just wondering what others are using to find and find and download new music. I'm also curious to know of other alternatives to Nicotine+, which I've been using for a little while. I've recently found a nice little widget called Seesu, which is great so far. It lets you search up bands and listen to their songs, and you can download the .mp3 for free afterwards if you like it. Anyway, enough of my pseudo-advertising.
What do you all do to find new music? Are torrent clients like Vuze the way to go, or is software like Nicotine+ better suited for the job? Perhaps you prefer the way of sites like Bandcamp, or by downloading from various online music stores. In any event, it'd be interesting to see how you all go about building onto your playlists.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to download a website which needs login before accessing the rest of it. how I can download it?, I used webhttrack and it didn't help.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTo do this, I would like to recursively download all the pages within the domain, such that their link structure is preserved. This would be tedious to do by hand, however. As it stands, I could probably use wget for this, but I would prefer something more specially designed for site downloading. I have already tried webHTTrack, but found it unsuitable. Perhaps httrack with a particular set of command line parameters would work better?

I am also aware that I can just recover the temp files from my hard drive, that is not what I am looking for either. I was wondering if you guys knew of any actual software for linux that does the job, something like orbit downloader. The reason being is that orbit allowed multiple http connections at once, making for much faster downloads, much more efficient on system resources that browser addons. It was also in a neat little menu.
