Anyway to fix this without reinstall entire FC15 again. I have Nvidia 6200 video card that was running kmod accelerator. I tried reinstalling grub and no change so far.

I installed FC on 2 new partitions I created during the installation, so I guess they moved before my window's.Is there a solution to fix this without erasing my windows partition? (at worse, I'm ok with deleting my linux partitions for I haven't done anything with it yet).

After doing an upgrade from FC14 to FC15, I then updated the packages by doing:
yum update yum
yum clean all
yum --releasever=15 --disableplugin=presto distro-sync
I then get the following voluminous list of issues (148 pre-existing rpmdb problems). I've done an rpm --rebuilddb but no help.

Well, it appears that downloading and installing libclutter-gtk-0.10.so.0 seemed to fix all the subsequent yum error messages, and I was able to install all the packages.
Whenever I update my kernel, I have to re-install the NVIDIA drivers, and this has always worked for me so far. I have the latest version of the Developer Drivers for Linux (270.41.19). After updating to the 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64 kernel, the nvidia installer fails with the error (/var/log/nvidia-installer.log):

I just installed Fedora15 on my laptop. When the installation completed, the system rebooted and gave me a Grub Error 17. I logged in the rescue mode and got the following output from

When I try and boot my Debian computer I get the messages: Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait... Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.
I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running Fedora 12. I installed BackTrack 4 onto an external USB hard drive using a LiveCD. Now when I boot my laptop. I get this: GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB loading, wait Error 21. I never touched anything with my internal drive. When I was reviewing what partitions the installer was going to format, the swap partition for my internal drive (Fedora) was set to be formatted even though I did not specify this. Fedora never used to show GRUB loading at all. Screen was blank until Fedora starting loading. Maybe this means that this is a copy of GRUB from my BackTrack disc? I ran 'fdisk' to look for anything suspicious and under /dev/sda1 (internal drive, boot partition) it says "Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary."

Jumpers are set to cable select.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Ubuntu Jaunty server with 4 x 1 TB Hitachi SATA Hard drives and a 4GB IDE Flash Drive. I installed the root file system to the IDE Flash Drive and setup the 4 x 1 TB Hard Drives as a RAID 5 for the home partition (I actually allotted 3 Gigs on each drive as swap space as well). My problem occurs however when I restart my computer after the server installation. Grub doesn't load fully and I am left with a "GRUB_" message on the screen.My root partition is ext3 and I have also tried the same configuration with a boot partition as well on the IDE drive to no avail.

Only changes I made at work were removing the standard package manager, replacing it with yumex, and slightly changing the panels to more suit how I like to work. Other than that just a little browsing the web on work's wireless connection.
Now it will not boot at all. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+2 and the last command I see is "Started SYSV: Late init script for live image.."
Tried booting into the original kernel (rather than the updated one from when I first installed) and the writing is smaller so I can see an earlier message where it failed a process. This is relating to akmod_nvidia but I installed that a couple of days ago and have restarted a few times since without problems before.

I do not even get a command like where I can type with Ctrl+Alt+2 to try running anything.
I tried adding "runlevel=3" to the end of the kernel line in Grub. Is that the correct way to try and force into command line?
I installing Fedora 12. I did ALL the same as in the installation guide, GRUB installed into MBR. And after installation and rebooting - nothing happens, after BIOS messages there is nothing - computer hangs. GRUB seems to be not installedI have 2 hard disks. At first I tried to install on the 2-nd drive(it is slave). Afterward I detach one disk and try with only one hard disk(it is master). Nothing changes - computer hangs.

Today I got an error saying GRub Loading Stage2 read error.
I have just upgraded my FC14 laptop to FC15 and although tsclient was 'transferred', it would not run and so I did not have a working graphical interface to make RDP connections.
As the app wasn't running, I removed it and then discovered that tsclient is listed as 'orphaned' and 'deprecated' in the repos, with the latest working version being for FC13.
Is there really no GUI interface for using RDP in Fedora 15 - I can't believe I have to drop down to a command prompt to run rdesktop!?
I'm going to remove Gnome3 from FC15 and, possibly, install KDE. I'm not sure about the options I have for it:I saw I can remove just the gnome-shell package. This makes me wonder if it is possible to replace the gnome-shell functionality with a gnome-2 equivalent, getting some of the gnome2 back how much of gnome-related packages can I remove? For example, is it advisable to remove gdm in favour of kdm? Are there gtk/gnome programs that are "better" than kde equivalents and are thus best left untouched, along with their dependencies? finally, somewhat unrelated, do you know good tutorials for gnome2.X expatriates to learn modern kde?

I currently have an FC15 KDE, set up as I like it as a media server, and with squeezeboxserver (for Logitechs media system) running fine. But I'd like to set it up as headless - and it presently needs to have a monitor attached. No keyboard or mouse and it will boot to the login screen (so not a BIOS issue). I need to get it to boot without needing a monitor or requiring a graphical log in. I can administer via SSH and Squeezebox server puts up a webpage. FC15 doesn't use inittab any more, so changing run levels is fraught. I don't want to play with targets without a safety line ...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm relatively new to linux. I got fedora 11 working as a dual boot on my computer a few months back. I accepted all Fedora updates yesterday. Powered down my computer at the end of the day, and today it won't run fedora. It gets into the grub loader and there is an extra kernel (Fedora 2.6.30.9-99.fc11.i586, Fedora 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.i586, Fedora 2.6.30.9-167.fc11.i586, Windows). Clicking on any of the kernels to load linux starts it up, the bar at the bottom of the screen goes from blue to white and fedora 11 lights up, but then the screen goes blank and I am never given the option to login. If I select the windows loader, I am able to get into windows. I have pressed escape or removed the quiet line in the loader, but haven't seen any errors on loading.
