I upgraded to fc13 from fc12 recently. After the upgrade the virtual machine boot is stuck in grub loading stage 2. I have attached a screen shot of the picture for reference.
View 5 RepliesI am new to Linux. I have installed RHEL 5.4 on my PC with preloaded Windows XP.
Windows was set as the first boot kernel. So if i do not choose which OS to be loaded it will load Windows by Default.
Today I got an error saying GRub Loading Stage2 read error.
I can create a virtual machine I named vm1 and the virtual-machine manager says it's running.
I don't know how to load windows XP.
The vm1 virtual machine console is frozen with the message "Booting from hard drive." But I know it can't boot from hard drive because I haven't loaded windows XP yet. When I created the vm1 virtual machine I put the windows XP CD in the optical drive and directed the menu to the CD. I heard it running, but still the console is trying to boot from the hard drive. I never got to the point where it asked me any windows XP software loading questions.
So I have 2 ide hdds but whenever they are both connected, grub gets stuck at GRUB loading stage 1.5. how can I resolve this problem?
both are Maxtors with ext4 fs. primary is 20 gb and secondary 80 gb.
Jumpers are set to cable select.
Boot order in bios is correct. (primary first, secondary isn't in the list at all)

also there is a file
/boot/grub/stage1 ( then what is this???)

( where does stage1.5 file located ? i found certain files in /boot/grub/)
like
e2fs_stage1_5
fat_stage1_5
ffs_stage1_5
code....
but my qusetn is GRUB loads from among these files??i removed the above mentioned files from /boot/grub ,but my system is still booting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how it is?then how stage1.5 and stage2 take place??
I'm stuck in Memtest86, everytime i boot it gives me an option to go into BIOS, and then it says "Loading GRUB." After that it automaticly goes into memtest, and I've let it finish numerous times without giving me errors. I've installed Linux Mint 8 via Unetbootin, I have a nearly fresh install of windows 7 on my laptop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI mount a few locations from a VMware virtual machine, but currently every time I start up VMware I need to re-mount the locations once the VMware image has started up fully, which gets tedious. I'd like to be able to mount them automatically when VMware is started.
I generally double-click the .VMX file (which is associated with VMware Player) to launch the virtual machine, but once it has finished loading I would need to run the mount commands manually or execute a bash script that does it.
Is there any way you can think of to have it done automatically? One way I can think of is to start my virtual machine by running a script that starts VMware player, sleeps for a minute or so, then runs the mount command - but setting the right sleep interval would be difficult because this varies a fair bit - and overall, it's a solution that's kinda icky and that I'd like to avoid if there's some better option.
my distro is centos 5.3.today i boot the computer,i saw an error "grub stage2 is not loaded" and the system is halted. is it needed to reinstall grub? pls give me the step-by-step solution.

Problem:When I turn on the virtual machine in Virtualbox, It comes up with Grub rescue. How do install Grub to the virtual machine. I can boot the virtual machine in virtualbox off of a Ubuntu CD, and then somehow install Grub...
I been running both OS's for a few months now with no major problems besides wireless internet issues. Today, however, as I go to boot my laptop up, the Dell logo loads with the F2 and F12 boot and setup options which both work. Directly after that though I get the message "GRUB loading. Symbol '?' not found. Aborted. Press any key to Exit." then it repeats when I push a key, and then it tells me to press F1 to retry, F2 to go to setup, or F5 to run diagnostics. It passes all the tests in diagnostics. I've tried booting off of the ubuntu cd I used to load it initially with no luck. So I'm stuck at either that error message or in setup but I can't go any further, and it does not change anything when I tried to boot from the cd.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 11.04 (dual-boot with Win 7) and at first the bootloader was working fine; I even installed BURG (although I installed it on hd0 because I don't know how to find out where the MBR is installed...) but it worked fine when I restarted my computer several times. However, when I booted into Windows 7 and then restarted for the first time since installing BURG, I am stuck with the "GRUB loading" screen at startup, and can't get into any OS. I will try using the Live CD, but I'm wondering if the problem was because I installed BURG in the wrong drive? How do I figure out where the MBR is, and how do I fix this with the Live CD?

Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.
I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.
how do I set up a virtual machine in Fedora 14? Do I do it through Quemu? I did not see Virtualboxose within the repositories. If some one would be so kind as to instruct me (please simple step by step instructions for setting up a virtual machine or for downloading and installing Virtualboxose or any other version of Virtualbox I would forever be indebted to you. View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm having some issues with a windows virtual machine. The system is Fedora 11 and the virtual machine is Windows 2008 Server. If I start the virtual machine from the virtual machine manager, it only has a single cpu despite my setting it to eight. If I start the machine from the command line, I can get four cpus but not eight. In both cases windows seem to display the eight cpus in the device manager (or whatever program it is). It has been suggest that windows was imaged on a four core machine before being loaded on the eight core machine and that something in windows is maxing at four cores. But that doesn't explain why the virtual machine manager can only start one cpu. I just played around on my home machine with a fedora 10 live cd and it recognized the two cores on that machine and used them from the virtual machine manager without problem. Also upped it to three cpus without problem.

I am experiencing a multicpre problem with fedora14 / kernel 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP. (standard from the distro). The host has a total of 2 cores .yet a virtual machine started with 'smp 2' ( or xml : <vcpu>2</vcpu>) will not run on 2 pyhs cores . it will use just 1 core ('top' at the host shows 100%cpu while running an endless loop process on the VM) and libvirt 'virsh vcpuinfo <vm name>' shows only 1 physical cpu used (although 2 vcpus are used : 0, 1) The kernel seems to be an SMP one ( so says the uname -a . what does '#1 SMP' mean ?) . Am I missing something ? same XML on a DEBIAN machine will run the VM with 2 phys cores as should although the host there has 4 cores (>2)Should I recompile the kernel src with some addtional flag ?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was deleting some space off my C Drive and I believe I may of accidentally deleted Fedora, or some of it! I have a dual boot with Fedora and Windows XP so when I started my desktop up it would load into fedora by default or I could press a key to load XP! (It rhymes!) Now, however, it instantly loads up into "Grub"
And that's it! Run, Or Exit, or anything really, doesn't work! Except Reboot! So I'm a little stuck. It's an old PC and the Windows XP disc is long gone, if I ever had one! I had this thought that perhaps if I reinstall Fedora from a CD it many bring back the old command prompt and let me get back into XP again? Or, is that crazy talk??
I used qemu sucesfully on F9 but I can't find it on F10. I can't create a virtual machine. I tried installing qemu from rpms that I found on their site without any luck. How can I create a virtual machine on F10?

I can remote in nicely when needed (try to do as much as possible via SSH) while not having to boot into and stay on Gnome on the server and run VNC.I noted that when I try to start the Virtual Machine Manager from an NX session, I get an error that VMM is "unable to open a connection to the libvirt management daemon". libvirtd is running, however. And, when I startx on the server and try there, VMM works fine.Is this an inherent problem with the use of VMM, or something correctable?

i have fedora 11 installed on my laptop. i used to run another linux flavor through virtual machine manager but it is giving error. i have just tried it with different flavors. i tired it with BACKTRACK, UBUNTU AND MINT(live cd) each time it gives error. last time i tried with QEMU type connection as loca installation media(iso). with the MINT iso it gave the error.
