From one day to the other, I can't read Japanese anymore. I could yesterday, I can't anymore, be it with firefox or chromium that I just installed ! This is madness. With one browser I have empty white square, and the other white squares containing four numbers.

Both systems have Japanese language support enabled, but I am unable to read the Japanese file names from the FAT32 partition when using Ubuntu.
When I want to play my japanese mp3 files, amarok only display? for the song title. I think it's because the title was write in japanese character. Is there any ways to display id3tag which is using japanese character in amarok?

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing Anthy with IBus I'm having troubles typing the correct characters. I have stickers set on my keys that correspond with the correct keys for Windows/Google IME. Unfortunately Anthy and IBus have my keys mapped differently than this for some reason. If I have "Use System Keyboard Layout" checked in IBus settings the character ろ isn't mapped at all and if I uncheck it, a very large number of characters are mapped to completely different keys. When I look at the keyboard layout for Japanese Kana I've also noticed that ろ is unmapped. If it's not clear, I typically type using 1 keystroke being equal to a single character rather than typing in Romaji.

I've extracted a few files through the archive manager through Ark (as well as through the command line) and some folders/files that were originally in Japanese are not properly displayed in the terminal or file browser. I can't delete them nor open them; I am informed that this file does not exist.I am running Kubuntu 11.04. I had a similar problem in Ubuntu 10.04 in that the text was not displayed properly, but the files were readable and writable.

scim-anthy seems to have been installed perfectly... however, ctrl-space or any other combinations that i'm use to don't activate it... i see the keyboard icon, i can go in set up the environment in it but... i can't get the japanese language bar to show up so I can type in Japanese.

I have a character app running on a Linux server with a telnet thin client. This app requires 3 input values that I would like to be filled in from a scale indicator that is connected via serial to the PC running this app. I feel like this is doable but not sure how. The app is running in Progress 10.1B. Currently I can see the 3 values coming from the serial port with hyperterminal but I do not want to have to rekey into the app.

The problem is that by default Pango is choosing the AR PL UMing CN as the font to render Japanese text when the current font doesn't have Japanese glyphs. But AR PL UMing CN is a Chinese font, so Chinese glyphs for kanji characters (e.g., 覚) are displayed. This is jarring and confusing for Japanese readers.
This situation mostly arises when you have mixed English and Japanese text. Some applications (for instance Firefox) will allow you to select a font for Asian text. Thus if the text contains only Asian characters it will use the font you select, rather than what Pango would have selected. But if it is a mix of English and Japanese, you end up with the wrong glyphs.
Other environments (like gnome-terminal, or a gedit) have difficulties as well. Since the primary interface requires mono spaced roman characters you run into difficulty selecting fonts. Most Japanese fonts only have proportional roman characters. This means that if use a nice roman font and use Japanese text (for instance file names), you end up with Chinese glyphs. What I want is a mechanism that will work across all of Gnome for selecting the font I want to use for Chinese characters. That way I can choose either Japanese or Chinese glyphs.
I realize this is low priority. It only bugs me a little, but many of my Japanese colleagues are put off from using Ubuntu because they are confused by the Chinese glyphs that pop up on my screen from time to time. As I said, I'd like to file a bug, but I'm not sure against what package...

Edit: I've just figured out how to do this. (All you have to do in install a Japanese font). The only problem is I can't seem how to figure out how to type using Romaji and have it convert to Kana automatically, rather than having it have a Japanese keyboard layout. For example, when I type "A", it should show up as ア, and when I enter "KA" it should show up as カ.
Debian won't display Japanese characters properly, it shows them as symbols. Is there a language pack or a particular browser plugin I need to install? It's sort of a noobish question, but I looked for something related to this issue in my Package Manager, and didn't find anything that seemed suitable/related.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently intalled Debian lenny and I'm having issues with some of the unicode characters. Instead of displaying the symbols properly it shows one of the following depending on font/app:
1) Square outline with four letters/numbers arranged inside
2) Just a blank square outline
3) Just a blank space
I haven't been able to test all possible characters, but from a quick check it seems that Cyrillic works properly, Japanese doesn't.A few Google searches later and I'm no wiser on how to fix the issue. Any help?
I've tried installing both ibus-anthy and ibus-mozc in Jessie but I still cannot input Japanese.
By contrast, In Wheezy, when using anthy for example, I can see ibus preferences icon where I can configure ibus and anthy. This doesn't show up in Jessie.

cupsd: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf' - exiting!
cupsd: Child exited with status 1!
The log files show nothing. cupsd.conf exists. It is user - root and group - root with permissions set at 0644.
My interpretation of this is that the program is not launching from either boot or terminal for a fundamental reason. I do not quite see what that reason is .
I am running the latest suse release downloaded directly from their website. I ran the installation after buring the dvd and everything seemed to be working fine. after the installation i ran updates and used it for a little bit. When i shut it down that night and went to restart it I got an error that stated the OS wasnt there. I then went through the installation and everything and it retained the information from the installation before (web history etc.) but for some reason every time I reboot or shut it down the system is not able to read the startup information from the hard drive and will not come on without me re installing it.

In the Kiten documentation I read that pressing Shift+Space would enable japanese input (built-in in Kiten, according to the documentation). But that does not seem to work in my system.
I was messing around with the alternate character panel app and made a custom character set. I then wanted to put it on a new panel and created a new panel. I moved the character set to that panel, and then started to mess around with the panel settings (auto hide, show hide buttons, and expand, to be specific.) So far so good, until I moved the panel from the right side of the screen to the top. I already had a panel here, and it seemed not to like hiding a panel when there was already one on the top.
When the new panel hid itself, all my panels stopped responding (any clicks on them did nothing) and my processor started going at 100%. I tried a reboot and the only thing that changed is that now I can't even see my panels. I'm guessing I need to change the settings back manually through the prompt, but I don't know how to do that. I am using 10.04 and have not upgraded gnome since upgrading to 10.04.
When i upgrade my packages with aptitude in testing, I am starting to get this error.
Also I get this from cron now and then.
I try to change the default character encoding in gnome-terminal. I want to use UTF8, but every gnome-terminal i start uses "ANSIX3.4-1968".
In the menu, when i go in Terminal => Set character encoding i have a list with two items:
[x] Current Locale (ANSIX3.4-1968)
[ ] Unicode (UTF-8)
I don't know why the first item appears, i have another debian box and it has only the UTF-8 encoding available. I cannot remove the first item in "add or remove" sub menu !! Probably because it is related to "current locale"

I have the following problem on fedora 12, x64 amd; I have installed fedora 12 from a live cd, whit custum partition tables (no lvm or somting like that). my sceam is (on a single 80 gb maxtor sata disk only 1 system, clean install):

Notitng more (not needed also). The installation was successfully. No problems on the install part. ALs no problems on the ugprade part. I installed the rest using yum groupinstall. When i want to add the extra 4 disks (all samsung 1 tb spinpoint sata) that i have for my backupdata, non of the partiotionprograms can recognise. If i do; moun /dev/sdb1/ /media/sdb1, it says that i need to add the file system. well, by some sort of misstake, i could find a workaround for this. When start gparted, select on of the samsung disks, select any of the flags in gpart, remove the flag and give it a ok, gpart can read the amount of data thats used. After that i ame able to mount whit a simple mount /dev/sbd1 /media/sdb1 command. When i use this command: hdparm -z /dev/sdb1, i can mount the disk afterwards, whitout problems. Of course, i need to add them als to my /etc/fstab file, so they automount each time at boot.........
I cant get to my files on my PSP. It says that its FAT32 formatted. I cant make a new partition without removing the files on it.

That is formatted to iso9660 but the latest ones are not.Are they not being formatted correctly, before being burnt or is there some other file system which should function nd if so how do I determine what FS is in use and ensure it's recognised?
