Clicking any item here starts sound.
It has sound on this VBox. Ubuntu VM has sound on login.
I hear no login sound when I login to my ubuntu. I checked at startup applications and found GNOME login sound is enabled. The command used there is

Its not only this, but there is no other sounds enabled - for mouse clicks etc

I just finished installing 10.10 on my pc. the problem is that i cant login to the desktop i enter the password, the login sound plays and im stuck looking at the wallpaper. nothing else. i tried logging in safe mode and it worked. how can i get it to work normally?
pc specs:
Pentium 4 2.6 ghz
512mb ram
ati radeon 9600 graphics card
And i installed it using wubi.
I hear no sound with pulseaudio, but I hear the "ready for login" sound after the x server starts. OS: Ubuntu x86 10.04

There is no sound on the login for 10.04 i have the beta so will there be or can i make one because it is kinda weird i liked the login sound i have the edubuntu login screen so is that it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac G4 that I installed Jessie on successfully. However, when it boots, one of the last messages is:
[FAILED] Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.
Last line is something along the lines of:
fb: switching to nouveaufb from OFfb NVDA,NVMac
And then the text starts dissolving, and the entire screen cycles through different colors. I presume it is sitting at the graphical login prompt but it's not displaying correctly.
Based on some Google searches, it seems like I should be able to resolve this by editing /etc/modules but I can't get to that point. I have tried to get to a terminal using ctrl-alt-F1 through ctrl-alt-F12. No luck. I tried different yaboot options that were supposed to avoid using the video driver. No luck. How do I get the machine to boot straight to a regular text login instead of the X one?
This machine worked fine running Mac OS X this morning, so I don't think it's the hardware. What I can do.
I want to disable the login sound, and System->Administration->Login Screen has an option that seems to be relevant. However, it has no effect. I know the file is at [/usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login. ogg]; would I hurt anything by moving it?I have searched Google and gconf-editor, to no avail.

and you can change it there, but in 10.4 it doesn't work that way. how would one go about putting there own custom login sound?
when i start up my computer, the login intro music that normally plays (as ubuntu is starting up) doesn't play anymore, and i've already checked all my sound settings, they're fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can play sound files with aplay, esdplay, and vlc, but I don't get any sound from iceweasel and chromium.
I installed a squeeze base system (without gnome and without the standard system utilities), then added (using --no-install-recommends) xserver-xorg-core, xdm, fluxbox, alsa-base, alsa-utils, alsa-oss, iceweasel, chromium-browser. Here I checked for sound and there was none from the browsers. I have since installed vlc, esound-clients, alsaplayer-esd, gstreamer0.10-alsa, and other software that didn't look sound-related and didn't change the symptoms.
Setting ICEWEASEL_DSP to "aoss" or "esddsp" doesn't help. Neither does "chmod -R 777 /dev/{audio,dsp,midi,mixer,snd}". snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss are loaded. Both my account and root are in group "audio". Running the browsers as root doesn't help.

In case it makes any difference, all of this happens in a qemu-kvm virtual machine with an emulated es1370 soundcard. Same with sb16 soundcard.
I would prefer not to install everything vaguely related to sound in the repositories in the hope of things fixing themselves. That's just ugly, plus I have only 200MB free space left.
When I start my computer, my comp is set to require password everytime I start the computer. I am using Karmic with all the latest updates. One day, from the Login Screen itself, I selected the Power icon at the bottom right and selected Shut Down. But, from next boot, the login drum sound wouldnt play and even the african sound that comes after logging in wouldn't play. The african sound problem was solved when I noticed that my sound was muted by the GDM on shutdown. However, the drum sound still does not come. I think the solution it to change the volume before logging in.

I'd like to disable the log-in screen sound. Not after you log on. Since it's my laptop I can't just switch a knob or press the off button. The function keys don't work before log-in.. Well not for sound at least.. I guess you could say it's a bug.. unless it was intended. Anyway, without filling a bug report how can I disable sound @ the login screen?

- Ubuntu 10.04 in dual boot mode with XP
- GNOME & AWN installed
when I tried to disable login sound by unchecking Play login sound under Administration > Login Screen, the login sound is not disabled, is this the correct place to disable login sound or it's a bug?
After upgrading to 11.04, it takes ~24 seconds to get to the login screen. I unchecked the startup programs I didn't want to load, but that didn't help.
Also, I can't figure out why the Login Sound doesn't play. I've set everything I know of except for where you unmute the startup audio. thought it was in /etc/init.d/alsa(something).
I'm using opensuse 11.1 with KDE 3.5.10 "release 21.9" and I cannot hear the login sound (kde startup sound) but I can hear the log off sound and can get sound in any other Linux application including every other kde system sound. I have checked the login sound file IS there and IS playable, i do not understand why the sound works for everything else but not the kde startup sound??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI made a recent update to my Squeeze system and got this weird problem. mplayer, VLC and firefox (.....) all have sound. But when I try to run Amarok I get nothing. I looked into the Multimedia panel on the KDE4 system settings, and its not showing any devices at all. Previously it used to show HDA Intel etc., etc. Now the entries are completely blank. How do I get KDE to recognize my hardware? Shouldnt it pick things up automatically?

When plugging my headphones in via the motherboard, sound works fine. Great. I plugged in my USB Sound Card (Audiobox 44VSL) and no dice. It's set as card 1 under aplay -l, yet no sound. I know this box works on GNU/Linux because I used to use it in Xubuntu a couple years ago with no problems at all.

Step 4: In this directory rename the current (system-ready.ogg) file to (system-ready.ogg.backup)
Step 5: Copy your custom (system-ready.ogg) file into this directory.
Step 6: Restart your computer and enjoy.
