May 17, 2015I've installed ScriptSafe on my Chrome Browser, when it's enabled Youtube videos loads slow despite there are ads displayed on the video. Is this a bug?

Debian :: Browser Is Crashing After Each YouTube Video
Nov 18, 2015If I watch a video on YouTube, the browser crashes when I try to change to another webpage. Typically, the video will play through but a few have crashed midway. It always crashes on changing the webpage after a video starts (whether it finishes first or not). There is no error message. I have searched the forum for 'iceweasel crash' and didn't see anything quite matching my own problem. I did look at related posts and none of them solved my problem. I'm not sure if the videos are HTML5 or flash. Perhaps a mix of both.
There's no problem with browsing regular pages, even if they have video advertisements in a sidebar. This seems to only be happening on YouTube. I have turned off all browser extensions and plugins with no improvement.
I've searched the internet and seen where there was a security problem with Flashplayer a month ago and the symptoms (if hacked into) sound similar to what's happening to me but I am using the latest version of Iceweasel and this bug is supposed to be fixed.
My Debian install is only about a week old and was a clean install to a formatted partition. I've added a few minor apps since install but nothing that would effect this. I also installed nVidia's proprietary graphics drivers. I can watch dvd movies, MP4's, .flv files, etc with no problems.

May 11, 2015I have to use Chromium to play videos on youtube and other sites. Using iceweasel i have video but no sound. If I hit F5 (refreshing site) then I have sound, but nov video.

Jul 22, 2015WRT "no flash youtube video"? OS is debian wheezy with iceweasel 31.80. I have completely removed adobe flash (I think). I have installed the html5 video everywhere addon, and have allowed youtube to set cookies. However, when I go to youtube and attempt to play a vid, noscript prompts me to allow googlevideo.com scripting. I am somewhat reluctant to use any google services, and am puzzled that youtube, which proclaims html5 as default (now), would need the googlevideo service? Note that I have removed flash because of its past insecurities. I guess the real question: "Does youtube (or iceweasel) really support html5?

With Iceweasel, when I watch HTML5 Youtube videos, I only have the quality 720p as the highest.
In the same machine, Windows 8.1, I can watch in 1080p in Internet Explorer.
I guess that it's not a problem of Iceweasel but about how Youtube serves the videos to my system. Is that correct?

But but anyone know why 9.10 accesses web pages realllll slowly for me. It seems to boot up normally and web pages load normally but connecting to the web page takes a long time, like 10-15 seconds.

Nov 16, 2014I wrote y bash script that opens YouTube playlist using youtube-dl and VLC applications: the output of youtube-dl is the input of VLC. The only problem is VLC needs to be closed after each playlist item unless I get the error message of the operating system:
"ERROR: unable to write data: [Errno 32] Broken pipe".
I understand the reason but I don't know how to resolve it: it is possible to close previous STDIN of VLC without killing the entire VLC process so that a new youtube-dl instance can connect to the same VLC instance? When I watch videos within my browser, they play fine until I expand it to full screen, then the frame rate slows way down.

Jul 31, 2011A relative of mine who uses Debian 6.0.2 has bought a Samsung HMX-H300 Camcorder which records videos in:
1. H.264 (MPEG4 part10/AVC) format
2. High Definition Video (HD-VIDEO)
3. Standard Definition Video.
I notice that the PC requirement for the camcorder's bundled software, apart from the usual Windows XP SP2/Vista/Windows 7, lists an Intel Core Duo 1.66 minimum CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 or higher or ATI HD 2600 series or higher.
My relative has an old Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.30GHz computer which only has an AGP GeForce FX 5200 but after copying the videos from the Memory Card to /home it is just about possible to play them using Totem Movie Player and VLC but, although the audio is OK the video is painfully slow or almost stationary.
Is there a way to view the videos recorded in these formats with this hardware? Can they be converted to another format? Or should he consider buying a better computer?

All the text screens look fine, but when it loads the graphic installer, the video gets corrupted, but i have a mouse, but a few seconds later it freezes and hangs, and I can't do anything. Feb 13, 2011I installed Debian recently, and everything seems to be working fine, except some video games are unusually slow compared to what they would normally be. Tremulous, for example, worked reasonably fine on this computer with Windows XP, but now (Debian) for some reason it's laggy even on the title screen.

Mar 6, 2016I have an odd issue -- fairly fresh Debian Testing install, using Lightdm.
After booting up, Lightdm starts, and then a moment or two later restarts. As a result, any keystrokes captured by the first run (e.g. the first few characters of my username) are lost. My lightdm log is:

Debian :: On Squeeze - Black Screen After Gdm Loads?
Dec 15, 2010After entering runlevel 2 and gdm loads, I only get a black screen. I hear a beep that indicates gdm has loaded, but everything stays black. Trying to switch to a console using ctrl-alt-f1 does absolutely nothing.
At one point, I disabled gdm from starting in runlevel 2, and rebooted. I then typed into tty2 "sleep 60 ; reboot" and in tty1 "gdm" and hoped for a reboot if the graphical login didn't appear. No reboot occurred, my black screen remained.
I've issued acpi=off at kernel command line (from grub) and disabled all acpi services. That seemed to work for a few hours but now I get the black screen again every time. There's no option in the BIOS to switch from acpi to apm, so I've done all I can do on the software side of things.

Jul 5, 2010i just installed the Debian on my old laptop. The install went fine but after that, the GRUB menu loads and freezes. I simply can't do anything. I checked menu.lst and the timeout is set to 5 but still nothing happens. It won't load. I then tried to load with the "super GRUB disk"but the same problem - as soon as it loads from the CD, it freezes and I can't do anything. Before I had Xubuntu on the same laptop but there was no Grub menu. It simply loaded. There's only 1 OS on the laptop /currently Debian/ - no windows, no other Linux.

I believe the problem is with my Video Driver. I can Set Visual effects on high without any trouble, but when running games (Even Java Games) that I can run flawlessly when running under Vista are almost impossible to run on Ubuntu, extremely low FPS and well it's just pointless to even try!

Jun 15, 2010my girlfriend has a netbook(acer A0751h-1401) and always complains how slow it is on vista and how much it freezes up, so i put ubuntu netbook remix on it. The video qaulity is so slow i give up and install xubuntu thinking it will be better since it is for slower computers, wrong. So im thinking it is a video driver issue or something. it has the intel gma 500 in it but it is only allowed to use 8mb of memory for video and i cant change it in the bios. May 14, 2010I have two Ubuntus installed. A 10.04 and a 9.04. In 9.04 if I watch a video in Firefox, it works very smoothly and nicely. Using the "top" command, totem-plugin-vi is using the most cpu time at about 16%, and xorg is using about 5%. But in 10.04, totem is using 72% and xorg is using 26%, and it looks really choppy. I think watching DVDs is the same way. I checked "Hardware Drivers" in the System->Administration menu (in 10.04) and it said "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." I'm guessing maybe I'm using different video drivers on each system, but I don't even know how to check. and here is an excerpt from lspci:

Whenever I play flash video or a video in VLC the pictures seems "choppy" and slow as if it was laggy. What could be causing this? I am guessing its a video issue? Maybe something todo with refresh rates and stuff like that.

Daily show-- very slow loading, sound ok, video extremely slow, choppy, unwatchable

You tube-- no problems but sometimes slow loading
