Whenever I play flash video or a video in VLC the pictures seems "choppy" and slow as if it was laggy. What could be causing this? I am guessing its a video issue? Maybe something todo with refresh rates and stuff like that.
Im running Xubuntu 9.10 on my compaq v2000 laptop. My problem is that the video stream playback is very choppy. I have tried the method found here [url] but when i get to the part where I have to type "echo base....." when i hit enter my terminal replies with "bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument"...How to fix this choppy video streaming playback...
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen i play streaming video in any browser (tried firefox, chrome, opera, and midori), the playback is severely and unwatchably choppy. sometimes it'll be ok for a few seconds and then devolve into choppiness, but usually it's just choppy right off the bat. the audio is just fine, by the way.the odd thing is, videos works just fine, but only if i stick to 360p. anything higher yields the same results. downloaded videos work just fine as well. i've noticed this on vevo.com, cracked.com, and southparkstudios.com. (my age is showing! ) i just tested it on an html5 video from the html5 site and that worked just fine, as well, so i think this is a flash-specific problem.
right now i'm using xubuntu maverick, but i've used both lucid and maverick of xubuntu and ubuntu netbook remix (all 32-bit). i'm using a lenovo ideapad s10-2 (a netbook), and the video card is intel gma 950. i can get more specific if necessary. i've tried both the open source and non-free versions of flash (latest versions, of course) with no difference. i even tried uninstalling flash and using chrome's built-in flash plugin, also with no difference.
I'm getting choppy playback in flash, 32bit. It's fine until I go fullscreen. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of installing the 64bit version of opensuse. My experience of Flash at 64 bit on Ubuntu was very stable and choppy free. I'm running Core 2 Duo Processor with and ATI Radeon and 2 gig of ram.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Ubuntu Maverick v 10.10 and loving it. However, I have encountered a problem with playing any type of video whether it be Xvid, AVI, h264, MKV or AAC. I have tried many players from smplayer, mplayer, kmplayer, vlc, etc. but I am still having the problems. I have read some posts on here and I've disabled compiz, tried the X11 tweak and updated my Nvidia drivers. I don't know if I am missing some type of codec or restricted plugin because I have ample space and resources are readily available while playing the video.
View 2 Replies View Relatedcurrently using nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 185) and a nvidia 8800gt. cpu is an intel c2d e6600, so it's quite a fast pc. video playback is extremely choppy to the point of being unwatchable. it affects all applications that i have tried, such as vlc, movie player and flash videos in mozilla firefox. videos on videos seem slow but playable, but when i try to watch them in full screen there's a drop to about 5fps. cpu usage reaches 100%. scrolling is also slow on large webpages. disabling compiz makes no visible difference.
before i installed nvidia's driver, videos played perfectly. videos play fine in windows xp. it seems as if nvidia's driver is using the cpu to 'process' videos, instead of the graphics card. other than that, ubuntu 9.10 is lightning fast... so what's going on here? i have resolved one issue, that is flash player's performance in firefox. followed instructions [here] and videos is now smooth in full screen. other videos, however, are still stuttering and spiking cpu usage. this must be a widespread issue, but the lack of information on the web shows otherwise.
I have ubuntu 10.04 on an acer aspire with the Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller. According to glxinfo | grep direct, direct rendering is enabled. I'm trying to watch some anime films in .mkv format. I have tried vlc and the stock ubuntu player. The video is choppy with lag between audio and video. How I can diagnose the problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning ubuntu 9.10 on an hp pavilion 2000 laptop, with 2.5GB of ram and a dual core (i think). Works at perfect speed with everything, except when I'm tyring to watch a flash video which slows everything down and gets choppy, especially when in full screen. From looking around online I see some people blaming adobe and some people blaming NVidia drivers. Get the impression the problem is a bit of both.
Funny thing is it worked a lot better with the drivers that installed automatically with the ubuntu install, soon as I put the updated nvidia drivers on it started screwing up. how I go back to those default drivers? Tried unchecking the drivers listed in Hardware Drivers, but when I restarted was stuck in very low resolution, so I'm guessing that's not the same as the drivers used after installing the OS.
Streamed videos on various Web sites are slow and choppy for me. The problem seems to be a cross-browser issue, today I did an informal test of various sites I frequently use on both Mozilla Firefox and Chrome. The results of my informal test are below, and as you can see they are mostly the same for both Firefox and Chrome.

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, have 4GB of Memory, and an AMD Phenom II X4 840 Quad Core processor.When I play Hulu Desktop the video is choppy.Now, the odd thing is that I had this problem before. It's the whole reason I upgraded my processor. When I upgraded I noticed an improvement, but it was still a little choppy. I then went to the Adobe site and got the latest version of Flash, and lo and behold, I could watch Hulu Desktop on HD quality with no problem!

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I play H.264 / AVC videos from my new camera in totem, the sound plays fine but the video looks like a slide show. I also tried it in xine, the video plays better, but the audio does not play. (the video seems to play in slow motion. the files are saved as *.mp4, and are the same resolution as the *.mp4 files from my old camera which play fine in totem. When I look at the properties of the files, the new ones say that the codec is H.264 / AVC and the ones from my old camera say that the codec is MPEG-4 video. the frame rate is the same for both files.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have two Ubuntus installed. A 10.04 and a 9.04. In 9.04 if I watch a video in Firefox, it works very smoothly and nicely. Using the "top" command, totem-plugin-vi is using the most cpu time at about 16%, and xorg is using about 5%. But in 10.04, totem is using 72% and xorg is using 26%, and it looks really choppy. I think watching DVDs is the same way. I checked "Hardware Drivers" in the System->Administration menu (in 10.04) and it said "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." I'm guessing maybe I'm using different video drivers on each system, but I don't even know how to check. and here is an excerpt from lspci:

A relative of mine who uses Debian 6.0.2 has bought a Samsung HMX-H300 Camcorder which records videos in:
1. H.264 (MPEG4 part10/AVC) format
2. High Definition Video (HD-VIDEO)
3. Standard Definition Video.
I notice that the PC requirement for the camcorder's bundled software, apart from the usual Windows XP SP2/Vista/Windows 7, lists an Intel Core Duo 1.66 minimum CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 or higher or ATI HD 2600 series or higher.
My relative has an old Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.30GHz computer which only has an AGP GeForce FX 5200 but after copying the videos from the Memory Card to /home it is just about possible to play them using Totem Movie Player and VLC but, although the audio is OK the video is painfully slow or almost stationary.
Is there a way to view the videos recorded in these formats with this hardware? Can they be converted to another format? Or should he consider buying a better computer?
Playback works fine but its really juddering and not very smooth compared to windows. I have installed all the latest updates, ATI drivers and the restricted codec pack. I am using the standard video player that comes with Ubuntu.

When I used to have the unspoken OS that starts with a w and rhymes with schmindows installed, DVDs played very nicely on my computer. Now, I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and they don't play so nicely. First, they didn't play at all. Then, I followed some instructions and installed various things like mediabuntu and some restricted drivers.
I tried to play the DVD again with Movie Player, and it played (kind of) but it was very choppy and it still is. Then, I installed VLC. It plays fairly well in VLC; sometimes it plays a little bit better than other. However, often times the quality is very liney when the characters move is when it is most noticeable.
The sound on 11.3 is choppy during playback with CD and in a web browser how can I fix it

I have an old dell inspiron 1000 with a 2.26ghz centrino and SiS integrated video chipset.It used to run flash player playing 360p ..... clips in fullscreen very smoothly and better than my windows 7 install but with 10.04 it is doing about 1 frame every 5 sec.

I followed the Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto but still have the same issue. I have also read many posts but I have trouble understanding some of the responses. The performance is now unusably slow and windows move around desktop in a very limited way and cascading menus lag. I did all updates before upgrading as suggested. (The machine is a Toshiba Tecra A4)

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?

I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI see [URL]
- Video resolution seems to change during video playback
- Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU
- 8 GByte RAM
- Biostar TA890GXE
- Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI)
- Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed
- Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".
How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?
I'm running an athlon II X2 on a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard Graphics are running on the Radeon HD 4200 on the motherboard. System has 2 GB of RAM. I recently did a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10. I previously had 9.04 installed and flash video ran completely smoothly, and the CPUs wouldn't even come out of 800 MHz power save mode.
Since upgrading to 9.10, flash runs choppy and the CPUs max out every time there is a lot of movement on full screen videos. On 9.04 and 9.10 I was running the ATI proprietary FGLRX hardware drivers. I've tried re-installing the ATI drivers and flash. I've also disabled compiz desktop effects.
Acer 5742 laptop with Intel HD Graphics.In Xubuntu 10.10 whenever I have display compositing enabled, flash becomes slightly (but noticably and annoyingly) choppy. With hardware acceleration enabled, there's a horizontal line about an inch from the bottom of the screen that is fairly distorted, and with hardware acceleration disabled, it affects the whole screen but to a lesser degree.
