View 12 RepliesIs there a good photo printing tool available for Debian? I have a HP ePhotosmart B110a printer and want to print photo's on glossy photo paper (10x15 cm and 13x18 cm). Which program do you people advice and why? I've been trying a couple (digikam/F-spot/Photoprint) but they didn't satisfy me. It seems that these programs lack some handy options like the tools for Windows i've been working with in the past.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have set-up a stand-alone CUPS server with the intention to configure printer drivers and queues at a central point. The idea was that all workstations simply get announced this server and use whatever it offers. But I cannot get it to work. I cannot find any way to use any external server other than configuring a local server, which may use the remote queues, but still requires all printer drivers locally. Furthermore, I have to set up each remote queue explicitly, i.e. to me having the remote server makes no sense.

recently i have upgraded my centos 5.0 or 5.1 installation using 'yum upgrade' to centos 5.4 since the upgrade I am unable to print any PDF files as landscape, they get printed but do not seem to be rotated and are aligned a little bit less than when using portrait (test using the GUI and LP)
when printing a text file in portrait and landscape everything goes well tested on labelprinter Brother QL-580N and tested on Samsung SCX-5530FN Laserprinter both using the network I already tried 'yum downgrade cups' this works but with no success
I can't print via our network printer (HP DeskJet 3650) which is connected to a WinXP PC on the network. My laptop is wireless connected to the network. My distribution is openSUSE 11.2 and I tried setting up the network printer via CUPS:

Step 2 from this documentation tells me to install a PPD file.. which I can't find anywhere. It's not on the original HP driver CD, neither can it be downloaded from this page: http://www.openprinting.org/show_pri...P-DeskJet_3650.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Konica 2530DL colour laser and have used it with versions from 6.06 onwards.
However now, with 10.10 I find I cannot print at from most apps eg OpenOffice or PDFs. I get errors on video frame showing on the printer but nothing obvious on the PC.
Test print and gedit text prints works fine and so does using a VM with Lucid running on the same host prints fine too from anything.
Can't see any other comments about this problem anywhere but I know the printer is fairly common and has worked well with Linux in the past.
Using it with IP printing on port 9100 and allow the installation to detect and select the driver. Not setup anything clever and I have the same issue with a Lucid upgrade to 10.10 or a clean install. However the VM running Lucid prints fine. Must be something changed on Maverick somewhere.
I have a video that is currently in .mkv format, and I need it in .avi, however, when I attempt to convert it with MEncoder, it cannot find the video. (Please note this is my first attempt to convert anything with MEncoder, or convert any video on Linux). What I entered and my results are as follows -

Apologies if this was asked before -- I have googled the last bytes out of my Firefox but fail to find anything helpful. Here's my problem:I have a foomatic hpijs cups-driver for a HP Inkjet (Non-PS printer) installed. Printing from UNIX-hosts works. I have cups configured not to allow raw-printing (/etc/cups/mime.types: #application/octet-stream, /etc/cups/mime.convs: #application/octet-stream).I have now installed samba-printing, the cups PS-drivers plus the Windows PS-drivers are populated to /etc/samba/drivers/W32X86/ and get pushed to the WIN-Client.Problem is that when I print from a WINXP client, the printer outputs heaps of Postscript-text instead of my page.I have tried to debug this a bit but fail to find anything really useful. My observations so far:
- The samba-pushed HP_Photosmart_3300.ppd (in both /etc/samba/drivers/... and in the resulting dir on the WINXP client) reads:

After installing a fresh Jessie, upgrading it to Stretch and then installing gnome. I see this white page with this weird error when I enter my password to log into my account in gnome:

Sometimes the error vanishes after a second and the desktop comes up with no problem and sometimes I get logged out automatically.

I run Debian squeeze. xdm tries to execute /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession, which is actually an empty file, and fails with the error 'too many open files'. Afterwards xdm terminates the session and executes Xreset. Here the entries from the log:

I was unable to find anything valuable concerning this problem. This is kind of annoying because I always have to switch to a console, stop X and startx X manually using startx. Then everything works out just fine. Unfortunately I am not yet that familiar with the setup process of X.

I am attempting to launch kate via kdesu as well as from the command line and it fails both times. I have (after the first failed attempt) coppied my .kde folder to /root and still am not able to launch it (it works fine under my login). I recently installed the Nvidia proprietary drivers and I have a problem starting gdm. Xserver fails, only throwing a warning concerned to xkbcomp, something about ralt having two symbols... but just a warning anyway. Then, after waiting the screen flash between the tty and a black screen a few times;
i'm on the tty, from where I can "startx" without problem. I tried using the nv driver and gdm worked.. so i think it has relation with the nvidia drivers... If I start gdm from the tty, instead of using the startx command, then gdm appears but if I try to log in.. all freezes up.. Here's my xorg.conf generated by nvidia-xconfig: [URL]
After installing the latest upgrades in Testing, KDE will no longer start. After logging in, the progress bar reaches about 80% and then stops. At this point the system is unresponsive, and I have to switch to another VT to reboot.
For the moment I'm using XFCE.
After a fresh custom install of Squeeze I could not play any video. debian-multimedia.org repository is in my sources.list. Trying to play an AVI video with totem I get the message

I want to set the login to the old default of having to enter a username,password. I've tried to use the configuration editor to achieve this and have ticked the "disable-user-list" option under /apps/gdm/simple-greeter but it makes no difference, the greeter still starts with a user list. It appears that the default valuef TRUE for this function is overriding my choice, but I'm notre why. My next step appears to be to edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults to change the default value. I haven't actually tried that yet so not sure if it would work but, even if it does, it doesn't seem a very elegant way of setting this up. Is there some simple way of changing the behaviour back to asking for username first?
I seem to remember the whole login process as being more configurable than it is now, with options to choose backgrounds, allow root accest finystem->administration->login_screen only gives a choice between selecting a user or automatic login of a particular user, with no further options available.On a general note, would the old method not be a more secure default than presenting an unauthorised user with a list of login id's to be tried?

I am supposed to take some small files, and print them to a specific printer, such that the small files are concatenated into one file. The file name has to be included in the file that gets printed.
Should I be looking to concatenate the files into one file with the file names included, and then print them?
something like: -printfunction -printername < file*
I upgraded to jessie today and I am having problems with my background. When I log in, the background tries to start on the external monitor but then it fails to load. I can change the background in settings but it does not show up. The background just becomes black and I am not sure why.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an older version of ggv on RHEL for viewing PostScript (.ps) files, but the binary I have refuses to open files from AFS. ggv-2.12.0 is able to open these files from AFS just fine on my Mac. I was not able to find packaged binaries for RHEL 5 or 6 for ggv-2.12.0, so I downloaded the source and compiled it. Unfortunately, it fails to start, printing these error messages:

I am in the process of writing a script to prints prerinting on different printers in a way that directly sends a raw file to the usb lp device file. Kind of like printing to a prn file in windows. Is there any way to accomplish this in linux (i.e. prepare the files before with a print driver and filter then to a raw send?

I'm doing a lot of print to file and selecting pdf. It is an awesome feature. But I'd like to add a location to the "Save in folder" drop down menu. What would be better is to add a location, and then make it the default location. It would also be awesome to change the default from .ps to .pdf. This would greatly speed up my save to file process.
