Debian Hardware :: Printing Error - Can't Copy Stdin To Temporary File

Jan 5, 2015

My printer has stopped working.

1. I am unsure if any system changes have occured. I am sure I must have changed something, but apparently did not document it.
2. Printer does work from other computers
3 Computer was originally wireless connected, but switched to USB. This had no affect. Well I can scan now so great.
4, Printer is HP 6500a.
5. Printer has worked from this computer before
6 This is from cups error log:

D [05/Jan/2015:11:47:48 -0500] [Job 147] Set job-printer-state-message to "Can't copy stdin to temporary file", current level=ERROR

Debian :: Gzip - Stdin - Invalid Compressed Data - Crc Error

Jun 18, 2011

I have two Debian machines running Squeeze x86 and x86_64.

I am having difficulties to untar a file in x86_64, although it is working in x86.

I made sure file is the same and the md5 match in both machines.

It seems like something special in x86_64 is causing it to fail.

Ubuntu :: Stdin: Error 0 At Boot

Mar 7, 2011

i've tryed to get rid of the ugly plymouth splash screen and this outpout at boot now:

stdin: error 0

and so on... It also appears in my /var/log/boot.log and /var/log/casper.log. But the OS works, just like before. I would like to know how can i get rid of this error. Or how can i hide it? Can i redirect the output to dev null at boot time?

Here is boot.log

Code:
stdin: error 0
Generating locales...
sl_SI.UTF-8... up-to-date
Generation complete.

[Code]....

Because it is really annoying to see an "error" when your computer boots, even if it is not really an error

Debian Configuration :: Can't Copy A File From SMB Share To The Local File System

Aug 17, 2015

There is this bug in the latest version of Ubuntu, which is also Jessie, which is:

Can't copy a file from SMB share to the local file system: Software caused connection abort

The problem, apparently, is that newer versions of Samba hit servers with multiple requests at the same time, and for some reason the Zyxel and Iomega boxes can't handle this. The best solution they've come up with is to modify the smb.conf file on your server to include this setting: "max mux = 1".

Here is the reference material on this bug: [URL] ....

People who develop samba have fixed it in the latest version but neither the ubuntu nor Debian have released the fixed version of nautilus, as of yet. Here, is the reference: [URL] ....

Programming :: STDIN, STDOUT, STDERROR Redirection For Scripting - Bash: Log.txt: No Such File Or Directory

Sep 7, 2010

I'm writing a script to execute bash commands in the PHP CLI. I would like to suppress errors from bash and write my own error message if an error occurs. So far I have this (assuming log.txt doesn't exist!):

Code:

tac log.txt 2>/dev/null

Which works as expected, tac kicks up an error but the error is suppressed, but when I use this:

Code:

tac < log.txt 2>/dev/null

I get:

Code:

bash: log.txt: No such file or directory

The tac error is suppressed but bash still gives me a dirty error.

OpenSUSE Network :: Copy Files - Error Saying: Could Not Write To File Smb://{path_to_my_file_in_the_remote_folder}

Nov 8, 2010

I have installed opensuse 11.3 64 bit. For many years was able to connect to a file server within our domain via konqueror in all previous versions of opensuse using: smb://user@server.ip.adress/userdata/user_name/
This would ask me a password and then I would be able to move, read, create and delete files. I never configured samba on the linux client because this method always worked. However very recently (I suspect since I installed 11.3) I am facing a problem I cannot resolve. I can still log in, browse the remote folder, read files, create new ones (for example a txt file), delete them, but I cannot copy into that remote folder files larger than about 20KB (I try copying or moving files by dragging them from my desktop into the konqueror window that shows the remote folder contents).

Small files are OK, but for files are larger than ~20KB there is an error saying: Could not write to file smb://{path_to_my_file_in_the_remote_folder}. Strangely, the file is nevertheless created in the remote folder, but with a fixed length size of 32KiB.

Debian :: Which Distro To Setup Temporary Media Center

Dec 10, 2010

I am trying to setup a temporary media center because the one I was using died. The computer I have to work with is a crappy old computer and its only purpose is going to be a middle man between a server I have for movie storage, and my TV. I don't want to spend any money right now because I'm working on building a MythTV system at home, so until then I'm trying to setup this temporary solution. The computer I have to work with is a Dell Optiplex GX150, everything stock.

I'm looking for a distro that is light enough to run on this machine without any problems (about a 1 gighz processor and a 1/2 a gig of ram), can display movies just fine, and must be able to support 1080 resolution. I've tried Mint 10, but that's way too top heavy, as is Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04. I also tried gOS which displayed the resolution just fine, but was WAY too resource intense for this machine... Just clicking on the menu took 5-10 seconds same as with Mint.

General :: Getting Back To "stdin" After Redirecting A File To A Particular Program?

Nov 22, 2010

I need to achieve a particular effect using bash's redirection facilities.I know that I can redirect a file to some program's standard input:[user@host]$ application < file.txtThe thing is, I'd like to know can I regain control of this program's input after the file content's have been passed to it. In other words, I'd like to run a command similar to the above, and then, instead of the termination of the application, I'd want it to wait for further commands from standard input (keyboard).

As I write this question, it occured to me that I could probably write another application (or a script), that would at first write some data to standard output and then act as echo, like:[user@host]$ stdin_proxy.sh | applicationWould it work, and is there any better way to do so? There are a bunch of Googleable tutorials covering this issue, but they all amount to one advice - "reopen the stdin after the file contents have been read".

General :: Copy A Read-Only File And Make The Copy Writable With A Single Cp Command?

Mar 1, 2011

How to copy a Read-Only file in Linux and make the copy writable with a single cp command in Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)? The --no-preserve and --preserve seemed to be good candidates, except that they should "and" the mode flags, while what I am looking for is something that will "or" them (add +w mode).

More details: I have to import a repository from GIT to Perforce. I want that all Perforce depot files are Read-Only (that is how Perforce was designed), while all other files that were derived/copied from depot files are writable. Currently if a Makefile tries to copy a Read-Only file then the derived file will also be Read-only. This leads to build-errors when cp tries to overwrite Read-Only file second time. Of course the --force is a workaround here but then the derived file is also Read-Only. Also I do not want to mess with "chmod" after each "cp" command - I will do that only as the last resort.
