Fedora Networking :: Network Connection Icon Is Missing From Panel
May 16, 2010
everything was excellent till yesterday evening but from the evening, when i switched on my pc, the Network Connections icon is missing from the panel of my fedora 12 os. i'm being able to connect to internet from Systems->Preferences->Network connections & check Connect Automatically to my Mobile broadband connection. but i'm not being able to disconnect it. i've to remove the mobile phone from my pc.please put some light on how will I be able to disconnect it (without removing the phone)?
In 11.04 on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop, there are two logins. User1 has sudo privs, User2 does not. When either user logs in, network-manager picks up on whatever remembered wireless network is available, connects, and the nm icon shows in the panel. If the other user logs in (via Switch User), the connection persists, but the nm icon does not show in the panel.
Under 11.04 it appears there is no way to put the nm icon back in the panel, even when the connection is set to "available to all users", and even when the user missing the icon is User1 (who has sudo privs). If control is now switched back to the first user who logged in, the nm icon is still there, and the system is still connected, but if that user logs off (rather than clicking Switch User), the connection is dropped, and when the other user gives their password to resume their session, there is now neither connection nor an icon with which it can be re-established.
This would appear to be a bug, but is there a way to ***FORCE*** the nm icon to appear in the panel? The connection is already set to "available to all users", and doing a networking start does not do anything. Under 11.04 it appears that there is no way to make any icon appear in the panel if it is not already there.
I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.
Have a strange problem with the network icon on my laptop.
I have two users (me & my wife). We often log in and use switch users so we're both logged in at the same time.
Whoever logs in first will get the network manager icon in the top panel, and whoever logs in second won't get the icon.
The second user does get a message (growl notification?) saying the wireless network <whatever> is now connected & it is indeed connected.
It's a bit annoying, as if I log in second, I can't chnage my wireless network to the other one we have, I'm stuck using whichever one my wife selected.
I am using ubuntu 10.4, network icon to manage wireless disappear suddenly.Wireless is working fine. I just don't see network-manager icon.I tried:Right click on pannel and try to add Network Manager. But there is no network manager.I also try, $killall $nm-applet, then $nm-applet --sm-disable.
(Ubuntu 10.04)I've been struggling for over a week now to get the network-manager icon back in the notification applet. I don't exactly know how and when it disappeared, but I have not been able to get it back eversince. I need it to start a VPN connection. To be clear:- The notification applet is running (battery icon etc is showing)- Network manager is running- Wireless connection works flawlesslyWhat I've tried so far:Solution 1 (did not work)
I've upgraded to F12 from F11 (with a completely fresh install) and today is my 4th day using it, Now, mysteriously my network manager has disappeared from the panel, and it is not connecting me to the internet or showing wireless APs.I am able to get online using command line so it is only a minor problem but still a hassle.how can something so vital break so easily? Also nm-applet is listed in my processes and is "sleeping"?
I'm a complete beginner who just installed 10.04. I'm trying to follow guides to setup my internet connection, but I am completely unable to locate the Network Manager Icon. I have the notification area already, but there is no icon. I tried the instructions here After inputting nm-applet --sm-disable It gave me: ** (nm-applet:1722): WARNING **: <WARN> constructor(): Couldn't initialize the D-Bus manager.
im using ubuntu 10.10. some how, i just lost my sound icon at top of the panel. how can i put it back? i try go to System-->Preferences-->Sound, and there is a msg appear (waiting for sound system to respond). but unfortunately there is nothing happen.fyi, my laptop still have the sound and before the icon appear at the panel. is it related to synaptic package manager?
I'm using "Control Panel" for my settings and the icon for Bluetooth has changed, it looks like a sheet of paper with a no entry sign on it.It works but it's not the correct icon for the theme I'm using. Any ideas ?
I was having some problems with audio and java #post10609906), so I uninstalled pulseaudio, which removed the volume control icon from the notification area. However, even after reinstalling pulseaudio and ubuntu-desktop(which got removed), the sound control isn't there, although the internet connection icon in the notification area is still thereNote: Another thread said that adding notification area to the panel would restore it. I've tried that, but it only shows the internet icon and not the volume control.
I'm not quite sure what it's called, but it's the one with the speech-bubble next to my account name... I've looked everywhere, but because I don't know what it's called I can't find it.on the forum I can only find ways to get the mail icon back.
Sometimes when I boot my computer the icons on the panel (pieces of them) are missing. Like half of my wireless just the mail icon from the indicator applet half the trash can or show desktop or just the power button from the indicator applet session. After I log out and log back in either once or twice that usually fixes it. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with gnome 2.30.2.
I am using fedora8. I suddenly noticed that the gnome-power-manager icon (battery icon) has gone missing from my panel. How can I get it back ? I donot see it in the add to panel list so it must have got uninstalled somehow, isn't it so ?
When connected to the Internet I have no icon on the top Panel notifying my laptop is connected even though I can use the Internet.I would also like to set up a wireless connection but can't find any network manager in the Launcher.
Ok So i installed edubuntu yesterday, and it was working flawlessly. Now suddenly the "Network Connections" icon in the top panel, to the left of clock and at the side of volume controller is missing. I don't know how to connect to my DSL Broadband internet!I'm using the "sudo pppoeconf" command temporarily to connect to internet. I've BSNL broadband internet connection, I live in India. Please help me how to bring back the networkconnection icon, so that i may connect net again. Like in the above picture, there are "2 oppositely pointing arrows" showing the network connection icon, to the side of volume controller. How to bring it back? It suddenly disappeared on itselfI googled a bit and found that some people told to press alt+f2 and type some command (which i forgot and am not able toremember, sorry!). But that didn't work, although it worked for the person who had the same problem as mine.
I'm so sorry to bother people, but I'm totally at a loss.I've searched the forum and have not found the answer. My NetworkManager icon is missing from the notification bar. Ive tried rt clicking on the top panel >add to pannel>notification area....yet it is still missing.I know that NetworkManager is installed, yet I cant even access it to connect to a wireless network. I'm able to connect to Eth0.I cant tell if my wireless card drivers are setup or not and if that makes a difference.
I accidentally removed network and sound icon from top panel. Is there any way how to put it back? I've read several howtos that I've to add notification area but it doesn't really work.I know that if I delete this user and create a new one the icons will be there again but I'd like to do it cleaner way. This is how it should look like (untouched user account):And this is what I've done :-/Network icon is missing in both accounts (removed by accident while trying to remove something else :-/ in user "tata" it at least shows sound button.
I have had a bit of experience with previous distros but I am pretty much a newbie. So I setup 10.04 but I can't get my net to connect. It's working fine on Win7 (posting from it). It's a dsl connection. I use an ethernet wire to connect to the net.
I opened terminal and used the 'sudo pppoeconf' command and followed the instructions. This is how I used to get my net working on previous distros but it dosen't seem to work in 10.04. The terminal says that my connection is active but it isn't. The network manager icon isn't visible on the top panel.
I want to install ubuntu 10.04 for netbook on my lenovo S10 so first i tryed to see without installing, and when i am trying to access the internet in the wifi icon says "no network connection".
I haven't got Lubuntu as such, I've installed LXDE to try it out with Ubuntu 11.04 sometimes. For it to be practical for me I need the battery icon and Network Manager on the panel. I'm assuming this can be done easily enough as Linux Mint LXDE has got it, or Network Manager at least. i need NM to easily start my Mobile Broadband dongle's connection. Also, can touchpad tapping be turned off in LXDE, and how? I have it set up to have no tapping in regular Ubuntu but this is undone when I boot LXDE.
New Suse 11.3 installation with Gnome desktop. Added K3B using Yast2, and after completing the install of K3B, there is no icon for K3B! Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.
As the title says after upgrading all packages in ubuntu 9.10, network manager icon in notification area is missing, I've tried deleting and adding notification area to the panel but no luck there.
Just installed (clean install) of Ubuntu 10.10 on an old desktop pc. The network manager icon is missing, Buy the way i had to run install from safemode. As I was having problems with login in, I kept trying to login in to the normal desktop but Ubuntu kept thinking about it for approximetly ten seconds and then asking me to login in again repeatedly. however when i switch to guest user on the guest desktop the network manager icon appears. I have used this icon to enter a mobile broadband account and to connect up to and down load all updates surf etc.Read a number posts and find this problem with the network manager icon are quite common. On the main (problem) desktop i have Tried installed a new panel but unable to add the notification area can add other icons Tried adding the notification area to the old panel get brief white flash on panel Removed the other icons and reinstalled these icons and tried adding the notification area.looked at "!nm-applet-sm-disable" appears ok
I installed ubuntu10.04 on my Copaq laptop. I configured net on it. After some days, thte network manager icon in the panel suddenly disappered. how to recover network manager applet icon?
For some reason when I booted today the network manager icon to disconnect and connect to different wireless networks was missing. I've read various post and have been unable to resolve this issue. Here is what I've tried.
1. Clicking in Add Panel and adding network monitor. This seems to be not included on the list of choices.
2. Clicking in Add Panel and click the Add Notification choice. This didn't seem to add anything to the panel.
3. Remove the Notification area and then re-add it. Did this and not the area is blank except for my dropbox icon. I don't have the date, logon or logoff dropdown, or network manager icon anymore. I've rebooted several times.
I can't connect to my wireless network anymore. Is there another way to manager wireless connections other then that panel tool?
Fedora OS: 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.i686 NOtebook: Compaq Presario V3424TU Wireless connection is not enabling and it is showing "Firmware missing" I need to connect wireless to help my final year project.
I have an annoying problem. It started with the network icon in the indicator applet in gnome-panel. It just disappeared! Somehow I managed to get my network icon back (perhaps after a restart), but as soon as it showed up, my sound icon disappeared.
I followed some advice I saw somewhere that said to add another indicator applet. When I did I had my network icon on my pre-existing indicator applet and a sound indicator in the new one, but no network icon. Because I needed the sound icon, I closed the original. But, I'm still stuck with no network icon now. This is pretty frustrating.
