I'm new to this and trying to install flashplugin to the terminal. I entered apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree, and it says package not found. What do i do. I can't install yahoo messenger without it or see any videos on ..... or any thing that requires adobe.
View 14 RepliesI am a 'newbie' to ubuntu (with 45+ years as a 'computer nerd'). I am trying to follow the instructions for installing the Flash plug-in so I can view some of the action on webpages. I get on terminal and the prompt is mike@mike-laptop. The instructions say to key in "# rpm -Uvh <rpm_package_file>". I have tried as many variations of this command as I can think of with no response. I am assuming that my interpretation of <rpm_package_file> is incorrect.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi am a proud newbie user of debian linux. the desktop i use is xfce. i have iceweasel as the web browser. it cannot access flash content like videos videos and some others because the adobe flash plugin is not installed. i've done the following without success. i downloaded flash_player_10_linux.tar from adobe's site, unpacked it to get libflashplayer.so. but under /usr/lib/iceweasel, there is no plugins folder to put it in. there is, however, a broken link called plugins. then i created a plugins folder under home/myaccount/.mozilla and pasted the libflashplayer.so file over there. i restarted iceweasel, but it cannot still detect flash content.
then i ran apt-get install of jre and downloaded all java packages. however, while installation it gave an error saying, "cannot overwrite iceweasel/plugins". this came most probably because as mentioned earlier there is no plugins folder under iceweasel to begin with. on running the about : plugins command, i get "no plugins installed". i then deleted the plugins folder from .mozilla and directly pasted the libflashplayer.so file under usr/lib/iceweasel (since it contained many other .so files). how to enable iceweasel to enable the adobe flashplayer plugin.
Recently I installed fedora 13 it works fine in all aspects as per my need except flash player problems in firefox.. I tried to install flash using the following commands:
rpm -Uvh [URL]
then I updated the repositories then I typed,
yum install flash-plugin nspluginwrapper.{i386,x86_64} pulseaudio-libs.i386 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i386 libcurl.i386
but it says no package available in the name flash-plugin.
So I tried to download adobe flashplayer from a site I'm not sure of, and it didn't install flashplugin-installer. My pc always bugs me about having a broken packet and i'm not able to download anything else because of it. I've tried for a long time now and visited like every site to try to get rid of it. It says "E: flashplugin-nonfree: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal."
When I try to delete it in system package manager. And it says I need to do this "This package is a transitional package that can safely be removed after you installed flashplugin-installer." I can't find where to install this and when I did think I found the link I try to type my password for terminal and it just says sorry, try again for some reason. I got ubuntu yesterday so I am new to this.
In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.
Have you tried installing adobe flash plugin recently? My distro is slackware 13 64bit, I just can't install this plugin. When unpacked, it gives me a lib only, I believe it is supposed to give me the 'flashplayer-installer, as it has always done before. Now it gives me this 'libflashplayer.so' only.[URL]..

I was trying to install the flash-plugin rpm so that flash contents can be viewed from web pages. So I downloaded the following rpm from rpm.pbone.net:

I tried removing the package and install it again, removing and installing with --replacepkgs option and I also tried to install it without removing which said that it is already installed.

But I am not able to see it in the plugins list, when I goto Tool >> add-ons >> plugins. I tried about login in the browser address bar, got the list, but its a lot of details, which one would tell me that the adobe flash player is installed. Later I downloaded the tar file and unzipped it and manually placed the .so file in the plugin folder as mentioned in the forums, but no luck.
I am very new to Ubuntu, decided to try it again with the new 10.4. I really need to have flash player plugin installed, but I get this error:

EDIT: For some reason, when I built and installed LUA, the "lua.pc" file was not copied over. So I copied the "lua.pc" over to my /usr/lib/pkgconfig/ folder and the ran the ./configure again. This time it worked.
I dislike Iceweasel as it has older versions, so I installed Firefox 4.0.1 on my new install of Debian Sid. Downloaded the tar.bz2 package, unpacked it in opt, linked /usr/bin/firefox to /opt/firefox/firefox, figured out why it wasn't running (it needed ia32-libs-gtk), got it to run, and now it doesn't see the flash plugin.
My usual technique was to put firefox in opt, close it, then aptitude-install flashplugin-nonfree, which pulled the plugin and made it work with both Iceweasel and Firefox. But right now, only Iceweasel has the flash plugin installed.
I found libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/; usually I'd try copying it in /opt/firefox/plugins, or ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins, but neither of these directories exist. In fact, I can't seem to find a dedicated plugin directory anywhere firefox-related. What do I do?
I have downloaded the beta for Flash 10 for Linux. I unarchived the tarball and put it in my home directory. Where should I put the plugin file in order for my browsers to be able to use it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgrade to Jessie and instead of installing Chrome from the google site I decided it was best to install Chromium from the Debian contrib and/or non-free repositories. After installing I then found that i had to install the pepperflash plugin. I find that viewing flash content ( I wanted to watch the SpaceX launch from the NASA website this morning) is almost impossible. The sound comes through okay, but the video comes through at about one frame per second. Fortunately I had Iceweasel as a backup.
Since Chromium does not support the NPAPI flash plugin, that is used by Iceweasel, are there other options? I can delete Chromium and install Chrome but I have heard there are issues with Chrome and Jessie. Perhaps I should just give up on Chrome/Chromium altogether, even though I think the web page presentation is much better with Chrome.
Things I have tried:
Uninstall and reinstall the pepperflash plugin
Changed flash settings
By the way, I don't have problems with Youtube because I receive HTML5 content from there. Maybe I should contact NASA and get them to broadcast HTML5.
after i leave firefox on for some hours (the amount of time varies between a couple of hours to a day), when i try to use flash, for example in videos, it plays the first second of the video and then goes into a sound loop of that 1 second of sound that continues even after i stop the video. it takes about 30 seconds for it to stop. at other times, if i've left a video paused in the middle and start it again after some hours, it goes through the rest of the video in just a few seconds like it is in fast forward. the sound is messed up just like in the other case.
the problem clears up completely after i restart firefox. i have tried changing the flash plugins but this usually leads to other problems. right now i'm using the default plugin file name: libflashplayer.so shockwave flash 10.1 r102 i only had this problem in debian, its been going on for months now and i have absolutely no idea what causes it to happen. it seems completely random. when i have only two or three tabs open its a slight nuisance but restarting firefox with 50 tabs open just takes too long.
I have just installed Debian "Lenny" AMD64 in my PC, but I can't find a compatible flash player for AMD64 in the adobe site, the only version I found is for i386.

I am using xfce in squeeze and I like xfce4-governor-plugin. But this package is missing in debian, pls can you add this plugin to squeeze repository. xfce4-governor-plugin_0.1.0 works in squezze very well.
