Ubuntu Multimedia :: Flash Plugin, Left Audio Channel Bitrate Very Low?

Aug 6, 2010

Or at least that's what I figured, when watching videos from ....., etc., the sound in the left channel turns into distorted high frequency noise, anyone had the same issue? Is there a fix for this? Sound in other applications works just fine.EDIT: Oh, and I'm using the proprietary flash plugin, has worked just fine on my Ubuntu Studio on the exact same computer.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: VLC Starts In Left Audio Channel

May 22, 2010

It seems that when I start up any video in VLC recently that it automatically opts for the left only audio channel. This means that I have to go into the audio options with every movie or show I watch and switch it to stereo mode. I was wondering if anyone knew a way to get VLC to automatically start up in stereo. The videos I have been watching have stereo audio so that is not the problem. I have worked though all of the advanced audio options and I haven't found a way to be able to set this up.

Software :: Cannot Uninstall Flash-plugin From Yast - Deleted Flash-Plugin Directory

Aug 15, 2010

In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.

I am running SUSE 11.2.

Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.

Software :: Mencoder - How To Keep Audio Bitrate Settings At 192 Kbps

Nov 25, 2010

Mencoder settings... I'm doing a simple transcoding of an avi file from FFmpeg MPEG4 codec to XVID MPEG-4 codec. The problem is that the audio bitrate is changing from 192 kbps to 32 kbps. The audio codec for both files is mp3 (MPEG-1 layer 3). (I'm transcoding the FFmpeg MPEG4 encoded avi because my blu-ray player doesn't see, let alone play it. Any XVID MPEG-4 encoded avi files the blu-ray player sees and plays fine). I ran mencoder trying the four settings below but the audio bitrate still comes out at 32 kbps:

Code:
mencoder camping_en.avi -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts bitrate=192 -o camping_us.avi
mencoder camping_en.avi -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts bitrate=687 -o camping_us.avi
mencoder camping_en.avi -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts bitrate=9146 -o camping_us.avi
mencoder camping_en.avi -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts bitrate=192000 -o camping_us.avi

How to keep the bitrate at 192 kbps?

Software :: Mencoder Ignores Audio Bitrate Parameter

Dec 26, 2009

When I convert files with mencoder I get the output with incorrect audio bitrate. Seems that mencoder ignores the bitrate I pass to it. Here's my script:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
vbitrate=800
abitrate=128
#mkdir $2/../$2_rip
unlink frameno.avi 2> /dev/null
mencoder $1 -ovc frameno -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=$abitrate -o frameno.avi
mencoder $1 -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=$vbitrate:v4mv:mbd=2:trell:cmp=10:subcmp=3:vpass=1 -ffourcc DX50 -o /dev/null
mencoder $1 -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=$vbitrate:v4mv:mbd=2:trell:cmp=10:subcmp=3:vpass=2 -ffourcc DX50 -o $2
unlink frameno.avi 2> /dev/null
unlink divx2pass.log 2> /dev/null

Result file should have 128kbps audio bitrate, but here are the results:
Input file:
02_seminar.avi, 42Mb
video: 432x320 00:05:10 25fps DivX5 1Mbps
audio: 48KHz 00:05:10 Stereo 138Kbps mp3

Output file:
02.avi, 34Mb
video: 432x320 00:05:10 25fps FMP4 802Kbps
audio: 48KHz 00:05:10 Stereo 138Kbps mp3

Why audio bitrate remains unchanged?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Flash Plugin In Firefox - Video Cripples CPU

Aug 30, 2010

Opening any flash video with the flash player plugin cause my CPU to go to 100% (even more but I assume that's just top reporting dual core or something. I want to watch ..... and stuff without burning up my CPU so I need to fix this.

A simple "locate -i *flash*.so" gives this:
Code:
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/iceape/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/kde4/kipiplugin_flashexport.so
/usr/lib/libvisual-0.4/morph/morph_flash.so
/usr/lib/midbrowser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.2/program/libflashli.so
/usr/lib/xulrunner/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Although I did install the package flashplugin-nonfree, in debian that I'm a little more used to flashplugin-nonfree provided libflashplayer.so and not flashplugin-alternative.so which seem to be the one all my browsers are using. However about plugins in firefox says very little except "application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash". Can I just replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so and maybe make some links or something or would that be bad?

The process using my CPU is reported as plugin-containe but it only happens with flash video and not any other plugins. If the video is playing, paused or stopped/not started makes no difference. I did replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so, it didn't help. Seems firefox was using that plugin all along, presumably from here "/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/". I can't imagine I'm the only one who wants a fix for this here, there should be hordes. I use the latest kbuntu, flash player, firefox and kernel all from the repo.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting An Alternative For The Flash Plugin Provided By Adobe?

I'm using gnome and compiz on top. Is there an alternative for the flash plugin provided by adobe? are there known issues with particular gnome or compiz settings, or any other settings for that matter?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: LiveCD Persistent Image And Firefox Flash Plugin?

Jan 23, 2010

I have a Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD (and I plan to keep using it as just a LiveCD); this works fine.

Firefox works fine too, and installing a flash player plugin is all right.

The problem appears when I reboot and see that Firefox no longer has the flash plugin installed.

So I tried making a persistent image USB stick for this, added the persistent keyword at the end of the boot options, and Firefox still forgets that it can actually play ..... videos.

The persistent image USB seems to be doing something, at least browsing through it shows several folders, for instance /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin which constains a file libflashplayer.so

It's just that Firefox doesn't seem to care. What else should I do?

2. Same effect (both in Firefox and Chrome) on Thinkpad T41 with ubuntu 8.04

I downgraded plugin to r53 for now, but it's not a good idea, last update fixed some security issues.

I'm trying to use the LADSPA SWH Gate plugin to remove soft breath noises from an audio recording, but it's not working very well for me. It'll cut out chunks of the much louder spoken audio, while leaving the much quieter breath noises intact. I mean breath noises that are so quiet, they don't even show up on the wave form. I know you can manually go in and drop silence onto each spot if you want to, but I saw the noise gate method work wonderfully in GarageBand so I'd like to use it here too, but I'm just not getting any results.I'm using both Audacity and Ardour.
