I have a website hosting on a windows server with its ads being hosted on .net. i want to transfer all the hosting to ubuntu platform now but i dnt know what alternative to use for .net as .net is not supported by any linux distro.
View 1 RepliesLast month I installed (not upgrade) squeeze in place of lenny on my dual boot laptop where the other OS is windows 7 Home basic (both C and D drives). I just noticed it today that while I can get any file from the windows to my squeeze I am not permitted to put any file to windows. As far as I remember I was not asked during squeeze installation whether the windows drives would be read-only drives. This difficulty was not faced when I had lenny. Can this problem be remedied now without going through a re-installation?

I have two machines. One is for web server and the other is for database server.I need to install php in the web server and postgresql in the database server. I installed postgresql. But could not install php as it needs postgresql library during configuration steps.

I posted here & nobody responded. Now before I try and install 10.10 on my laptop, is there a way I can verify that my WLAN card will be recognized by the kernel or is it the same thing as 10.04?

Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got Ubuntu 9.10 CD from the Canonical Ltd. I started to Install Ubuntu 9.10.
It asked me to Select a language then it started loading
After a minute or two the screen showed some errors and my monitor showed an error non-supported refresh rates 35.xx KHz / 75.x Hz
I dont remember the exact numbers but this is the error. This error is generated by monitor's hardware not ubuntu.
The last time I updated Linux it was from Gibbon to Heron. (so 7.10 to 8.04 ) I'm now trying to get caught back up. Thing is, now that I updated from 8.04 to 8.10 I can no longer get to a GUI. Also, most of the text in the terminal is a diamond character as if the font that's installed doesn't want to work most of the time. This is somewhat confusing, but I believe my system's language was set as Japanese before the upgrade and now it's trying to display Kana and/or Kanji and the terminal doesn't like that. Not really important, but I'm not sure how to proceed to the next upgrade or get to a GUI. Fortunately, my system's set up to dual-boot with windows. Can someone help tell me how to get my GUI back or what package to install?
I'm running on a laptop with an ATI mobility Radeon 9700. I've had problems with it and drivers in previous versions back to 6.10 too, but never to the point that the GUI wouldn't work.It's actually an issue with my X Server. I tried "startx" and it says "No Screens found". I looked in my xorg.conf file and there are two screens listed at the bottom. It produced a log too, but I can't get my Flash drive to mount so I can't say exactly what it says. It did mention that there were a lot of font directories that didn't exist along with a few other warnings.
Does anyone have a list of cards supported by this version of the OS?

I am unsure how this is happening, since I was able to install 10.10 successfully. To better assist, I am attaching detailed information about my computer system.
My home connection is dialup via an 8-bit ISA modem. I plan to use the old box with the modem in it as a gateway and do my actual work on this laptop. Connection away from home is not so easy to get in my area.
SuSE 6.1 has no problem operating the modem, so the hardware works. SuSE 6.1 can't seem to make anything else work though. How can I configure Debian to see and operate this modem?
SuSE sees the modem on /dev/ttyS1. The same chat script does nothing on jessie. I'm guessing that jessie is just not seeing ISA.
I'm able to install packages onto the box via a usb drive but that's only on the days when the local coffee shop's wi-fi actually works, which is rare.
using Slackware 13.0, and whenever i trasfer my files to USB, like copy or cut and paste, it will show as if file transfered in an instant,like click paste and poof.the whole 1 gig file transferred in one second, and it wont show dialog box of transfer process, and then i have to predict some minutes and wait (till the transfer actually finishes, i have to usually see my USB's transfer indicator light), if i plug out before or my prediction goes wrong, i end up with corrupted files. This aint related to window manager, as same is case for KDE and XFCE tried thunar, konqueror, midnight commander, all of em resulted with same problem.

Running 'dumpet' on the .iso shows no EFI boot section (whereas, for example, RHEL6 Beta-2 x86-64 DVD .iso does show one); see output below. Will there [ever] be UEFI supported boot/install CD/DVD .isos for Fedora?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to upgrade my linux distro, since I'm using Karmic Koala and it is no longer supported anymore. However, upgrading via the updater always breaks my system, so I want to do a clean install. However, I have a LOT of programs installed in this machine, including a good number of games. Otherwise I think most of my data is neatly confined to my home folder, which I can easily transfer via external hard drive.
How do I get all my programs over, however? Like my PDF printer, for example, or all my games, or Inkscape, or Skype, or any number of things that I have installed. Especially WICD. I can never get my wireless internet to work without WICD. I will make a list of my programs beforehand, just in case something goes wrong, but is there any kind of less painful and time-consuming way to do this than going back and installing every program all over again from scratch?
