i've recently bought a wireless modem it's like a usb stick that operates throw the telephone company .. i've tried to install on ubuntu but i couldn't , i called their customer service and they told me that they have no support except for mac and windows . can i install it throw wine or something . cause i tried wine , it installed the software but it didn't work or run .

Except this little bit that has me bogged down. I am trying to get my HS2300 HSDPA wireless modem to work, but I am a little stuck here.
I found a post that I should get the HP-WMI module to load. That was a post on an older kernel and this guy mentioned that is should be included in newer versions of the kernel.
Modprobe did not deliver any results, however an "lsmod |grep wmi" delivered the following:
Obviously I need to look for hp_wmi, but so far I cannot get anything to work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wireless modem has disappeared from the connection list at the top of the page. Strangely, a guest connection on that same modem is still visible but won't connect. I added the modem back in as a new connection and it was added to the list but it was greyed out and I still can't connect to it. The problem could, of course, be in the modem but I have no way to check that. Reset is not working. Lan connection to the modem works fine. This is the second time this has happened in the last week and I ended up reinstalling Ubuntu. This gave me back the wireless connection. I don't really want to have to do that again. Is there anything I can check in Ubuntu?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.10, I'm using a HP tower with a cisco usb ae1000 modem. I have been on Linux all of 12 hours. I had installed on a old laptop, and hard wired to the router. I really liked the OS. And Long short I killed the laptop, literally.
So I partitioned the family tower, but I cannot connect wirelessly. And to run hard wire to the router would mean a complete tear down of my desk and set up in the living room area, and that will not help out the marriage long/short term.

How do I get it to find the wireless router and set up my connection without being hardwire to the router itself.
I've recently installed Natty and the only problem I have with it so far is attempting to connect my Huawei E5830 Three Wireless modem via USB and successfully connecting to the Internet from it. I've fiddled around with the network settings and nothing, I've also done some work in the Terminal to try and correct the problem.

I did come across a Virgin wireless modem but it is soooo painfully slow (tested it against the USB dongle modem 3-4kb same test 1 min later 280-300kb's USB.) The wife could make herself a cuppa just waiting for the facebook login page to load!Would it need to pass on the connection bcause the USB is fully setup? then wireless is setup or would it be required to have a 3rd security setting ect in between?It would be good to use a low spec computer because I have a few. When I plug the old device (now deactivated) it shows and use to work fine. When I plug the new device in Ubuntu does not pick it up and show it in the networking options. I use to see it i n the upper right where I would select my wireless networks. I do get a green light on the card so I know its powered. So what do I need to do to get my Laptop to see the new card?

Then I use to reboot and then it gets detected automatically. That means its drivers are now loaded. But I don't know why drivers are not loaded when I start first time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Ubuntu server that I need to access remotely while I am at school. The server's internet connection comes first through a DI-604 broadband router and then through a Netgear Wireless router:
ethernet wall jack --> Broadband Router --> Wireless Router --> Server's ethernet port
I can manage to get the SSH to work with the current IP address (dynamic) by connecting the server directly to the broadband router, but I cannot set up DNS (ddclient on the server, Namecheap for domain registrar and nameserver) with it. I can set up DNS on the router with no issue, as it has the DNS client built in, but I cannot get the SHH to connect through both the modem and the router as mentioned above. Best case scenario, this can be fixed without having to get anything new, but if that is the case, recommendations of a new setup
Other reference info - ISP at server is Verizon Fios, broadband router set to PPPoE.
I am trying to switch to mobile broadband, Ubuntu 9.10, Huawei E1750 modem, provider Telia Sweden. So far I tried this:
(previous: tried to get started with an Option Icon 550 modem, but could not do it. Ubuntu froze completely, networkmanager refused to see the modem after this. -rebooted to Windows Vista, installed modem
-rebooted to Ubuntu networkmanager sees the modem, when I select it, it gives a message 'GSM network, disconnected'

I have a 3g data card(LW272 GSM/WCDMA USB Modem with HSPADataCard) which is a type of multi-mode, 3G modem or card, applicable to 2G/3G networks; but it doesn't get recognised in Ubuntu 9.10. Actually, this device came with a software(for linux too) which makes calls and sms possible simultaneously while surfing. But while installation(from root terminal) i see a repeated trials of connecting to modem but it does not find the device(something wrong in installation), and the interface of the software also shows "No(U) Sim". Anyhow it doesn't bother me much if i m not able to avail the additional services( call and sms), but what i need is to make the modem recognisable so that i could configure the connection.

I have a E627 Emachine Laptop with an AMD TF-20 processor that runs a Athros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet Card rev c0 and the network controller is a Broadcom BGM 4312 802.11 b/g LPPHU rev 01. I have 2 megs of memory and this is the machine that I put the Linux Mint os on.
For days I have been trying to get the wireless to work. I have read everything I could find on the net and know that this machine has a problem with this. I also know that the drivers in Mint don't work even though they are supposed to. I was using Mint 10 which is the stable version and it had the same problem as did Ubuntu which I know is almost the same as Mint and Fedora.
I have decided after many hours that the way to go might be to install one of those thumb drives with a wireless modem built in, but can't find an appropriate Linux one that will work with my setup. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?
I have Linux Linpus-Lite on my Acer Aspire One. Internet worked fine until my grandson did heaven knows what and I now have no connection with my wireless modem. The light indicating that the computer is getting a signal is not on, but I know the modem is working because my other computer is getting it loud and clear. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Verizon/Nortel USB760 wireless modem (worker just fine in 13.0, got problems in 13.1). Using KPPP, I connect to the service, waltz around reading mail, news and LQ then disconnect and close KPPP. I let it sit for any length of time then open KPPP, connect and it can see the modem, attempts to initialize it and it just sits there - I have to unplug the modem and reconnect it to get it going again. /var/log/messages doesn't give any hints (everything looks normal I think) and nothing else does either -- the indicate light on the modem stays green and all that. I've tried ejecting it (nope) and whatever else I can thing of (which ain't much) including reviewing Changes and Hints, READMEs and all.
Is there some setting I may have missed or a USB rule or do I need to poke the thing somehow to get it going? USB-Modeswitch automagically figures out what the device is and does its settings (so there's no "conf" file any more - unless I really missed something there).
I just bought a TRENDNET TDM C4000 (=modem/ wiredrouter) and got it working. If I connect my computer with through the ethernet port directly, the internet will work. However, when I try connecting the ends of the ethernet cable on the modem and my wireless router, it's not transmitting. I know I set up the wireless router correctly because it worked with my previous modem. I just need to know how to configure my modem so that it works with my wireless router (D-Link DI-524).

I recently bought the Edimax 7781Un wireless modem specifically because it works with Linux. The OS does recognise the device and tries to connect to the router, however it connects and has the two semi-circles going round then it eventually disconnects. I thought it was my wireless device with little signal strength therefore I bought this one. However this one connected once for 20 seconds, 89% strength and disconnects. I booted up win7 and it works fine, so I have put it down to the driver or the OS.
Trying to compile the driver, I am up to the make step after following instruction here. I type make, it does a few things and errors a fair few things, the last line ending in [make] *** [LINUX] Error 2
Another possibility (I think) for this connection problem could be my AMP installation, however I have neither apache, php or mysql running and I still have the problem.I read somewhere that make requires more files, is this true? And if it is, where can I get it without an internet connection on my linuxbox? (I am currently using my brothers w7 computer).
