Debian Hardware :: Install Ati Cat. Driver To RadeonHD In Squueze?
Apr 5, 2011
I'm trying to install the Ati Catalyst 11.3 driver on a HD5000 series radeon graphics card, but it's fails. I installed earlier this driver on Ubuntu, Mint and last time in OpenSuse, so it's can't be an impossible task. In all case, the direct installation of the .run file is not an option, because it never workd on any distors. My way is to generate the fglrx package, then install the .deb file. But in Squueze, it's gave me a problem, something is missing from /usr/X11R6 directory (basicly there is no such directory anyway)
I installed the dpkg-dev and debhelper packages to solve some problems during the buildpkg, but after that i get these:
sh ati-driver-installer-11-3-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Debian/testing
Created directory fglrx-install.j35Qd7
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

I have a AGP Radeon HD3650 RV635. I've tried using the ATI Catalyst 9.12 drivers, and they work ok with 2D/3D DECCELERATION. 3D works but it's extremely slow, maximizing a window takes 10secs, videos skip when played in fullscreen. Disabling Compiz doesn't help much, in 2D mode, windows redraw slowly.
I'm trying to install the open radeonhd drivers, and so far, it's booting into gnome, but it's barely usable. There is no 2D acceleration (log says ShadowFB only) and glxinfo reports:
Code:
name of display: :0.0

Major opcode of failed request: 135 (GLX)

I have Dell Inspiron 6400 equipped with an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 card and running Ubuntu 10.4. Before the upgrade from 9.10 to 10.4 I was using the "generic" xserver-xorg-video-radeon, which was working fine but after the upgraded did NOT allow me to work in Dual Screen mode.
I then saw that there is a xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd driver which targets, among all, my X1400 card. I installed it and the Dual Screen now indeed works but I notice that my system is slower (actually, it stresses a lot the CPU) when I do things like scrolling a page in the browser, reducing/restoring a window, etc.. so I'm wondering if it isn't a driver or configuration issue in Xorg.
My xorg.conf (regeranted from scratch by the Xorg -configure):
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"

I am trying to get video output with mplayer on a 64 bit hp laptop running the radeonhd driver. I feel in need of a little config magic. It throws up a square box in the middle of the 1200x800 screen. My config file simply says:
xy-3:2
utf8=yes
dec@harriet:$ mplayer dvd://2 - The video bit says
MPEG-PS file format detected.
VIDEO: MPEG2 720x576 (aspect 3) 25.000 fps 9800.0 kbps (1225.0 kbyte/s)
[code].....
mplayer -vf spp, scale also gets laughed at. There is also some conflict because the agp aperature is over 4 gigs and the bios/kernel recreate one at 2 gigs. This is a lousy video combination (ATI card under linux - 'nuff said).

I've got a Dell Optiplex Desktop here, the CPU is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz. The integrated ethernet here is from intel also, it's a 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection. This computer is running a Debian Squeeze 64bits, distrib sid, kernel 2.6.39-2-amd64.Well, here goes the story. I had a lot of trouble with the ethernet card, being very slow, and it just didn't work when i was using tftp. So I downloaded and compiled the latest driver available on Intel website. Currently with debian sid, the version for the driver ( e1000e ) is version: 1.3.10-k2. From Intel I got the version 1.3.17-NAPI.Alright, so I build it, and move the module manually to the right place, replacing the previous version at the same time ie :
$ sudo cp e1000e.ko /lib/modules/2.6.39-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko
However, there is is still something bothering me. When I want to check, after rebooting, that I did it right, here is what happens :
$ sudo ethtool -i eth1
driver: e1000e
version: 1.3.10-k2
[code]...
So, which one should I trust ? Is there something I didn't do properly when installing the module ? Or maybe I just don't understand ethtool and modinfo enough.

I am trying to install an Asus USB-N13 USB Wireless Networking stick on an Intel-chip laptop loaded with Debian squeeze release. I have built a driver (rt3070sta.ko) and the "insmod rt3070sta.ko" seems to have worked fine. I can see the driver with "ifconfig ra0" and I can set an ip address with "ifconfig ra0 inet...".HOWEVER: 1: The gnome network manager doesn't see any wireless networks to connect to.2: If I try "ifconfig ra0 up" I get "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted"I am doing this from a root window and my login has root privileges. I'm missing a last step - what is it?

Since I can't get a screen size anywhere above 1280x800 on the "radeon" driver and the experimental mesa dri drivers - which I installed (7.8.1.6) have now disabled 3D on all ATI drivers(!) I'm scratching my head furiously trying to see if I can get 3D to work. I've taken a look at the X.Org experimental HOWTO but it says if I have everything I need I don't need to follow the steps and download from git. [URL]. If you have reasonably up to date radeonhd (1.3.0 or higher), kernel (2.6.32 or higher) and mesa (7.7 or higher)you shouldn't need to follow *any* of the instructions on this page. These obviously come with F13 by default.
Glxinfo output is right here, I'll post xorg.conf if anyone needs it:
bash-4.1$ glxinfo

I've often installed Debian Netinstall and added the nVidia driver for my monitors. I just purchased a new PC that has this as part of its description:AMD A4-5000 APU with Radeon(TM) HD Graphics..I have monitors connected to both its analog and digital outputs. Larger distros have enabled a good video driver automatically, but I need to know how to do this for my Debian Netinstall partition. The video performance is horribly slow right now.

First time user who has just picked up a nice old Sony netbook to give Debian a try on. Only problem is, this little thing doesn't come with any form of Ethernet card or port, and has to rely on a USB D-link DWA 140 B1 Rev Dongle. This device identifies itself as the Type RT2870 device and when i do "lsusb", it comes out as RALink RT2870. Running the CD install of Lenny, Kernel 2.6.26-2-686, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get this damn Wireless card working.
The Wiki tells me to look into Upping the kernel to 2.6.32, which unfortunately requires some form of internet access for the backports Also consulted and tried (unsuccessfully, the make command would not run properly) this guy's advice: [URL].... Do any of you kind people have any advice or things for me to try to finally figure out how to get this little laptop online?

I'm trying to install the driver for mi wireless card. The instructions say that to build the tar.gz file, I have to:
# mkdir hybrid_wl
# cd hybrid_wl
# tar <path>/hybrid-portsrc.tarhybrid-portsrc-x86_64.tar.gz
The third step i don't understand. I want the folder of the driver to be located in a folder inside home called "Programas" so what I did was to open the terminal, went su, and then did cd Programas. Then I followed instructions 1 and 2, but I don't know what to put where it says <path>.

But let'start from the scratch. The wireless card interface in my laptop is one belonging to the "infamous", not Linux-friendly broadcom family.it is the BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (PCI-ID 14E4:4315). I downloaded the .iso image file of Wheezy 7.5 from the official repositories, put it on a USB key, and started the installation process with no internet connection. But during the installation, the installer informed me that some firmware was missing, i.e. ucode.fw and ucode15.fw.
Anyway, I went along and finished the installation. Of course, running Wheezy, I could not connect my laptop to my wireless modem just because of this problem, and so I needed a solution to install the right driver(s) but without a connection in my laptop! After long googling, finally I have found the solution [URL] ...., that is using the b43-fwcutter to extract the firmware from the Broadcom's proprietary driver. I simply report here the procedure to be followed, in a clear way:
By means of another PC with an internet connection, download the b43-fwcutter (version 018) from here: URL...Copy this file in the PC where you want the driver to be installed.Extract the b43-fwcutter tarball in a folder (tar xjf b43-fwcutter-018.tar.bz2, if you use the terminal), and then:
cd b43-fwcutter-018
make
su
(password)
make install
Now, after installing b43-fwcutter, download version 5.100.138 of Broadcom's proprietary driver from here: URL...Copy this file in the PC where you want the driver to be installed.Extract this tarball in a folder (the same as previous or another one): tar xjf broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2 and finally extract the firmware from it:
su
(password)
b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware broadcom-wl-5.100.138/linux/wl_apsta.o.
The standard place in Wheezy 7.5 where firmware is installed to is /lib/firmware. In another distribution this could be different.
