I'm attempting to get a Realtek 0bda:8176 wireless usb adapter (lsusb gives: Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.) running with my Debian Server, I researched and found that the RTL8192CE driver is required for my adapter but when I run make install I get this error:

I'm trying to install the driver for mi wireless card. The instructions say that to build the tar.gz file, I have to:
# mkdir hybrid_wl
# cd hybrid_wl
# tar <path>/hybrid-portsrc.tarhybrid-portsrc-x86_64.tar.gz
The third step i don't understand. I want the folder of the driver to be located in a folder inside home called "Programas" so what I did was to open the terminal, went su, and then did cd Programas. Then I followed instructions 1 and 2, but I don't know what to put where it says <path>.
I'm running Debian wheezy on a Toshiba NB505 and I've noticed that the wireless connectivity can be painfully slow at times. I know it's not our home network because my desktop flies (running Windows).Currently, I have the driver from this guide installed. I went to Realtek's site to download the latest driver for this wireless card (RTL8188CE, the Linux/UNIX version) thinking maybe this more up-to-date driver would operate better than the one used in the guide above.Is there a possible way to install this driver, or should I just stick with the current driver I'm using from the guide above?

I've got a Dell Optiplex Desktop here, the CPU is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz. The integrated ethernet here is from intel also, it's a 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection. This computer is running a Debian Squeeze 64bits, distrib sid, kernel 2.6.39-2-amd64.Well, here goes the story. I had a lot of trouble with the ethernet card, being very slow, and it just didn't work when i was using tftp. So I downloaded and compiled the latest driver available on Intel website. Currently with debian sid, the version for the driver ( e1000e ) is version: 1.3.10-k2. From Intel I got the version 1.3.17-NAPI.Alright, so I build it, and move the module manually to the right place, replacing the previous version at the same time ie :
$ sudo cp e1000e.ko /lib/modules/2.6.39-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko
However, there is is still something bothering me. When I want to check, after rebooting, that I did it right, here is what happens :
$ sudo ethtool -i eth1
driver: e1000e
version: 1.3.10-k2

So, which one should I trust ? Is there something I didn't do properly when installing the module ? Or maybe I just don't understand ethtool and modinfo enough.
I just installed Debian 5 in my pc. I have made all the updates but my screen is a bit bright and the resolution isn't very good. I think that i need to install the graphic card driver but all the solution i find in google didn't work . My laptop is Toshiba satellite pro u400 and my card is Intel GMA 4500 MHD.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've built a new kernel (2.6.34) on our workstation at work. It boots and runs beautifully, but there is one minor problem. I created the kernel as a Debian package along with the kernel headers. Upon installing both and attempting to build the nVidia driver for said kernel, the installer tells me that it cannot determine the version and quits. This happens even if I manually specify the path to the headers. What's going on here, did I miss something during my compilation of the new kernel?

The problem is to make this device work i have to open terminal after system starts and write

But idea is that this PC will work without operator so driver must be loaded automatically. As i realized the solution is to make script but when i try google it shows me how and where to put this script but not how to make it. I recently installed Squeeze. I had sound with the video driver that came with the install. Then I installed the Nvidia driver from Nvidia website. The sound dissappeared. When I uninstalled the Nvidia driver and removed xorg.conf and rebooted again, the sound came back. Then I installed the Nvidia driver from (nvidia-glx, dev and settings) from Debian with Synaptic. The sound went away again. If I uninstall the nvidia driver and xorg.conf the sound will probably come back again. The sound driver is the one that came with the install.
The volumes are unmuted in the alsamixer. Somehow alsaconf command does not work.
My mother board is a ASUS M4N78 Pro with Nvidia IGP.
What can I do to have sound with the nvidia driver?
I have a PC that have a new Ethernet card that is not yet supported by Debian/Lenny.I downloaded the latests driver from the manufacturer and after a make;make install everything works like a charm.My problem is that one day after a probable update, Debian overrided my new driver by an other one causing my Ethernet card to shut down.After an other make install, everything work again like it should..But how do i do to prevent Debian to update my driver ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I fresh installed the latest stable version of debian (jessie) with gnome from the USB DVD image for a 64bit machine. Everything got fine except the graphic driver, I think.
Now Gnome 3 is running but graphic is super slow. My previous debian/gnome 3 ran much better and I think there is a problem with the graphic driver.
I'm on an thinkpad t61.
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz × 2
Ram: 4GB
Graphic: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)
Now the graphic is: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) which is likely wrong. If I'm not mistaken llvmpipe is pure slow software acceleration.
Moreover this was different on my previous debian (wheezy), which was faster. Anyway I don't know what " Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) " is and it was for sure different in wheezy.
According to apt-get I have the latest intel graphic divers installed. So maybe this an X-org confic problem?

Yesterday I installed some updates on my Jessie system (I don't remember if the kernel was also updated). After rebooting the system nothing happens after the "Loading intial ramdisk"-message. If I boot in recovery mode the boot stops at the message:

If I add "nouveau.modeset=0" temporary to the GRUB-entry for the recovery mode, it will boot up in the console-mode.
I was able to get an ethernet connection with "dhclient eth0" and removed the "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau" package. Then I installed it and the removed gnome-desktop again. Before removing it, aptitude said the following to the package:

Now it only says:
Code: Select alli xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
But this didn't change my problem. I found a similar case in the internet, but there were no solutions for it: [URL] ....
The next thing I would do, is to install the proprietary nvidia-drivers, but since I have a GTX 960 video card, I would have to use experimental drivers. So I'm afraid to make it more worse trying to install this drivers.
Also I'm not sure if it really is a driver-specific of kernel-specific problem. My kernel is version 3.16.0-4-amd64.
I follow a french tutorial to install the nvidia pilots. So, i did :

# m-a clean nvidia-kernel

I was able to successfully put together the driver with the Linksys WUSB100 v2 using ndiswrapper.
Here is what i get from ndiswrapper -l: rt2870: driver installed device (1737:0078) present (alternate driver: rt2870sta)But, the catch is where it maps to: ra0 instead of wlan0. This has caused me problems in order to get it to connect through network-manager or in the terminal.
