View 2 Replies View Relatedi was copying a large file through scp (in root account), suddenly had to turn off remote machine. i suspect the unfinshid file is somewhere in my system , i need to find and delete it
Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
rootfs 13G 12G 966M 93% /
[code]...
I get the error message in the subject line, followed by a red failed message.
However, once the system is finished booting, I can log in and
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor start
and it starts normally.
My printer has stopped working.
1. I am unsure if any system changes have occured. I am sure I must have changed something, but apparently did not document it.
2. Printer does work from other computers
3 Computer was originally wireless connected, but switched to USB. This had no affect. Well I can scan now so great.
4, Printer is HP 6500a.
5. Printer has worked from this computer before

I have a dell precision m4300 laptop with a 360 wireless bluetooth dell adapter On my system there is a debian lenny with kde3 and backported enable(everythings is p to date except bluez-utils and bluetooth holded at version 3.36-3)
Nowadays bluetooth more less works fine, I can send and receive single file to/from my phone (nokia n70)
The hell begin when I try to browse my phone files from konqueror...with bluetooth:/ I can see the list of all the device near me with sdp://[address]/ i can see two icons (obex file transfer & obex object push)
but I cant see or access to any file or folder into the phone.
I also try to update my bluez-utils to 4.60-1~bpo50+1 but in this case kbluetooth totally fail and a see the contextual menu of the system tray icon all disaled.
When I position icons on the desktop in specific places, then I choose to move a file or folder into another folder, all the icons arrange back to the left side. This happened in an earlier version of KDE 4.x, disappeared the next version, and reappeared. how to keep this from happening. It makes using the desktop a pain in the you know what.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 11.04, I noticed something strange, being that when I want to drag a file or folder from one Nautilus folder window to another which is not visible, I can no longer hold the item over said folder's taskbar button and wait for it to appear. It just shows the + for copy, and when I let go (which I have no choice but to eventually do), it creates a launcher to that item (I assume it's doing that, and not actually copying there, but the + has me unsure).
I've looked in Nautilus's preferences to see if this is some new behaviour that I can revert back to, but could find nothing there.
I'm of course using the Classic desktop with bottom panel being the taskbar. If you know how I can rectify this, please let me know, as the times I would want to create a file or folder launcher without the usual hassle would be rare, but I am constantly dragging stuff from one folder to another, and it would be a real pain to have to line up source and destination folders each time.
this is posable but am trying to do this "Create folder from a filename and move the file into the folder" i have 500000+ file's i need to do with is there a easy way?I really don't want to download them all make/move them with filemonkey just to re-upload them

View 4 Replies View RelatedI been using linux for a while, but I havent had the time to really learn it. Something Id like to get more familiar with is bash so here is a simple example of something I would like to do:
I have a directory full of files. For each file in the directory create a new subdirectory with each files name.
I tried this:
#im already in this directory
aaa=./*
for a in $aaa
do mkdir $a
done
One of the problems is that there are spaces () and - in the filenames so I get many subfolders with names like "-" which i don't want.
I tried stuff like:
aaa=./*
for a in $aaa
do mkdir "'"$a"'"
done
This of course also did not work.
Additional I tried just creating a folder with the name of one of the files and I got this:
mkdir: cannot create directory `(audio) - R56339.EXE': File exists
Well yeah a file exsists with that name, but I want to create a folder- why is there a conflict?
Just to be clear here are the contents of this folder:
~/Desktop/LAB/Media/Drivers - (Image Deployment)/Optiplex_GX260/XP> ls
(audio) - R56339.EXE (NIC-Onboard-Intel) - R54402.EXE
(Modem-datafax-V92) - R54403.EXE OEM_Applications
[Code].....
I have recently switched to using LXDE on my PC and I am on the whole pretty pleased with it. However,PCMan is giving me a really odd problem. Some of the files/folders are being displayed in the wrong order where they contain numbers. They are being ordered by their first digit not the whole number.

How can I check and set who can view or open a given folder or file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedInitially I thought - use a for loop with ls in it:
Code:
However this causes lots of problems (folders have extensions, I have duplicate folders, the names with spaces create a folder for each element of the name).
The contents of the folder is basically movies (some with subtitles). Some of the names have things like (original) or CD1 CD2 in them.
I am currently working with a cloning project using FOG on Ubuntu 10.10 (Desktop). While there is certainly a learning curve, all seems to be going well.
For the initial project, I have this "cloning network" isolated completely. Meaning, it is not connected to my main network/domain switch - FOG is handling the DHCP, I have a dedicated managed switch handling the routing between the FOG server and the client clones.
The main problem I am having is that Ubuntu is not able to resolve the hostnames of the client computers.
I know this is because I do not have DNS setup on my Ubuntu PC.
What is the best route to take in order to resolve this? Can I use bind9 to take care of it, or is that too complicated for what I need it to do?
Where is the Temporary Internet files?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for almost a year now in WUBI with WinXP. I'm a relative noob with Linux, though always eager to learn more. Lately, I have noticed that every now and then Ubuntu stops working for about 30 seconds or so with the hard disk light solidly on. Clicking anywhere does nothing until it wakes up and then remembers all my previous clicks.
When it doesn't do this, it works wonderfully. I can't figure out what sets it off. And some days it does it annoyingly often and other days not at all or rarely. I checked the log files and this is a sample of some troubled times:
Code:
May 2 19:32:17 ubuntu kernel: [ 909.000011] ata1: lost interrupt (Status 0x58)
May 2 19:32:17 ubuntu kernel: [ 909.000064] ata1: soft resetting link

Does anybody know where UNetBootin stores the temporary .isos etc.. before it extracts and puts it on the USB stick. I notice my hard drive space is going down slowly and that's the only thing I've been downloading with for the past few days.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 2wire only allows HTTP/HTTPS access and this is my home office network.
I was checking my auth.log for a previous question I posted and this popped up:
Code:
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit with all the current updates. It was a clean install, but I did import my previous home folder. The only things I can think of that depart from a standard installation are that I'm running an encrypted drive with LVM and I've installed some extra fonts.Whenever I open an OpenOffice document (write or calc) for the first time in a session, I get a 5-7 second hang that locks up only OpenOffice. It can be an existing document or a fresh document. The hang doesn't occur until I can actually see the document. In Write, I can actually type the first few letters of a sentence before the program hangs. Once the 5-7 seconds elapses, everything in OpenOffice seems to work just fine, and the remainder of the sentence I typed appears.
This happens whether I start OpenOffice from the command line, by double-clicking a file, or from a launcher. There are no error messages in Terminal. Once OpenOffice has been opened in a given session, even if I close it, any documents subsequently opened open fine without the hangAccording to this thread, the problem seems to have existed in Lucid, too, though I don't recall experiencing it then. I tried adding the recommended line to my /etc/hosts file as described here, but it didn't help. One of the posters filed an issue with OpenOffice.org that includes some technical explanation for the issue that's way over my head. The other solution offered in the above thread, using OpenOffice open/save menus, doesn't seem to apply in my situation, but I tried it anyway and it made no difference.
It looks like the issue isn't limited to Ubuntu, as I found this post on the openSuse forums that describes the same problem I'm having. Unfortunately, no solution for me there, either.I have tried renaming the .openoffice.org and .openoffice.org2 folders, rebooting, and retesting, but that didn't work.As annoying as it is, I could easily live with it since once I've opened OpenOffice it's not a problem, except for one thing: I'm running a bash script using unoconv to automate processing some documents, and it will fail due to the hang if I don't open OpenOffice first, even though the script itself opens a headless session of OpenOffice. It seems like the 5-7 second lag trips it up. I guess I could come up with a workaround in the script, but I'd like to try to fix OpenOffice, first
While browsing forums.debian.net, sometimes, I experience temporary freezes (a few seconds) while scrolling. This, obviously happens while browsing other sites.I am using Iceweasel (3.5.16) in Squeeze. Squeeze is fully updated.
