Debian Hardware :: Creative 4.1 Front Speaker Doesn't Work?

Jul 27, 2010

I have got a Creative X-fi gamer card. I have Creative 4.1 speakers. One of the front speaker doesn't work and I use one front and two rear and of course one subwoofer.

In Gnome, it works after I do few commands and all is well. But, in any other desktop environment only the front one speaker works and the rear two don't. Neither in KDE nor in XFCE or LXDE.

I am tearing my hairs on this. And it is indeed the same with other distributions.

Is it because now it has become actually 3.1 and channelling is not happening. But in Gnome they work.

Ubuntu :: Creative X-Fi Front Panel Not Working?

Aug 22, 2011

I just installed a copy of Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday on a spare computer. I'm having trouble getting the front panel of my Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty to work. The sound card works just fine when I plug my headphones into the analog stereo output in the back. I'm not trying to do anything fancy with it right now like digital optical out or anything, just trying to get the one analog output on the front panel to work so I can plug my headphones in up front and leave the speakers plugged in the back.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound From Rear Speaker But Front Works?

Feb 3, 2011

I recently bought an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-570t. Except for the fact that I can't get the back speaker jack to work, Maverick works great. Here's info that seems relevant:

aplay -l
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: HDA Generic [HDA Generic]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

[Code]....

I've look at Alsa Mixer. There are two tabs (IDT ID 76c7 and ATI R6xx HDMI). I turned the second one off, since I don't have any HDMI sound output device connected to the computer. On the other tab, there are five sliders (Master, PCM, Front Mi, Line and Mic). They are all turned on, and the first two are at maximum volume.

It seems to me that Ubuntu is not recognizing whatever controls the rear speaker jack.

Debian Multimedia :: Pulse Doesn't Use Internal PC Speaker To Ring Bell

Jan 13, 2016

Just installed sid on a new system and I'm having a problem with pulseaudio.I have a motherboard with built-in Realtek audio, and the system should use that for everything except the system bell, which goes through the internal PC speaker that's connected to the motherboard. It works that way on the console. If I type C-g in Emacs, the pc speaker beeps, same with bash completion etc, while aplay will play wav files through the external speakers connected to the sound card. It's perfect.

Now in X, pulse doesn't know what to do. It defaults to the external sound card speakers, so they play all "normal" sounds (like music files) but when I type C-g in Emacs, there's a drip sound that comes out of the speakers. The internal PC speaker doesn't beep at all.I'm using GNOME 3, and I like it, so I can't just purge pulse because it wants to take GNOME with it. If I go to setup > sound, "Line Out - Built-in Audio" is selected, but I have another option for "Analog Output - pcsp" ... that's the snd_pcsp module for the internal speaker. If I select that, it plays the same sound files but through the internal speaker. So when I do C-g in emacs, the beep does come from the internal speaker, but it's not the normal beep you hear in the console -- it's actually the same ogg (or wav or whatever) file that makes the drip sound from the speakers! And worse, if I sleect the pcsp option in setup, it uses the internal speaker for EVERYTHING - including playing audio music files, watching YouTube, whatever! And naturally the sound is very horrible and fuzzy.

Is there any way to tell pulse that I want to use my motherboard's soundcard for everything but the beep, just like in the console?

Fedora :: "yum-plugin-remove-with-leaves" - Doesn't Work With Graphical Front Ends

Sep 19, 2010

I'm trying to switch from debian to fedora (13) and I'm stuck at getting yum to remove leave dependencies.

So far I've installed "yum-plugin-remove-with-leaves" and I'm able to remove leave dependencies if I invoke yum with the "--remove-leaves" argument from command line.

But this doesn't work with graphical front ends and I want to remove unused leave dependencies every time if I remove a package not just if I remember to invoke yum with the "--remove-leaves" argument.

Later on I discovered an option in "/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/remove-with-leaves.conf" named "remove_always = 1" and uncommented it. But yum doesn't seem to care. I still need to add the "--remove-leaves" argument otherwise yum isn't going to remove the leave dependencies.

How to configure yum to handle dependencies the way I used to know from apt under debian? Install a package with a graphical front end and dependencies get pulled in as needed. Uninstall a package later on and dependencies installed in the first place are removed as well if not needed by anything installed in between.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Creative X-Fi Titanium Work With 11.4?

Jun 26, 2011

There is a basic driver for it. I was wondering if anyone got it to work. Or is there another card that has been used successfully, especially with recording from a microphone. I am getting poor input from the mic source. Levels are low and broken up. Extensive research has pointed to ALSA/PulseAudio not being able to fine tune all sound cards. I am using the onboard currently, an ALC262.

In the meantime I was tempted to set the priorities higher for sound in general, in other words tweak ALSA and PA. Reason being is that many across a few distros have problems when resources are squeezed, like the times when proc load is at or near 100%, for example. I do not know how to tweak sound. Does anyone know?
I still want to try the Titanium since it could be utilized in 7 (ouch) as a luxury for recording "what you hear", and for superior sound reproduction as well.

My server is headless, so I'd like to make it beep when it finishes booting. Some posts in the forum seem to indicate this is the default setting, but my box has no sound when login prompt appears. The speaker does work since it beeps once at the start of the booting process (probably BIOS' doing). "lsmod | grep pcspkr" shows "pcspkr 7105 0", lspci shows nothing related to speaker.

Also I'd like to know how I can test the speaker from command line (remote ssh terminal), will echo -e "007" work?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To Get Internal Speaker To Work On 11.2

Dec 2, 2009

I am having trouble getting my internal speaker to work on openSuSE 11.2. These are the symptoms and my experiences to date. When I boot my machine the internal speaker emits a beep. On my other machines, I get a similar sound when I press Escape in vi (in command mode). It is this beep from the internal speaker that I am having trouble with. Looking around on the web I see that it is reported that the module snd-hda-intel can interfere with the internal speaker. When I unload this module using rmmod, I do get the beep from the internal speaker. When I reload it, the beep does not sound. Some of the reports seem to attribute the problem to a configuration option for the sound module called "digital beep" that needs to be enabled.

Using "make -C O=`pwd` cloneconfig" on my kernel sources, I see that the option CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_BEEP is set to y. Also affected are things like printf ( "a" ) and sending Control-G to "cat" or "cat > /dev/console". what do I need to do get the internal speaker to sound while at the same time retaining the full capabilities of the sound system?

With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Debian :: Dell XPS L501 And Debian - Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/ Doesn't Work ?

Jan 22, 2011

I'm trying to install Debian on Dell XPS L501, and there are lots of problems...

1- Resolution is 800x600! I guess, I need to add that there is no xorg.conf file, and I couldn't create it by running `Xorg -configure`. It said the number of screens didn't match number of detected devices or something like that! I'd be really happy if this gets solved!

2- Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/... doesn't work! Sometimes Alt+Directional keys works. but most of the time it doesn't!

3- I can't get the loud speakers to work, and I couldn't compile Alsa from source... I'll try again, but does anyone know if there is a specific package I need to install to get them to work? (Realtek ID 665)

4- Keys are not working right... Function keys don't work... But the worse thing, is that if let's say Fn+F2 is supposed to disable wireless, F2 does!

Hardware :: 4.1 Surround Sound Speaker System Didn't Work

Jan 13, 2011

I'm running slack64 13.1, I don't have KDE installed or any of the KDE libraries (so answers concerning KMix aren't going to help), I'm using xfce4 as the desktop environment. Anyway I just bought a new 4.1 surround sound speaker system from Amadeus and wanted to give it a shot. Obviously my first instinct was to plug them in and give it a whack... much to no one's surprise this didn't work. So I googled my ass off, and it seems for every person that has had a surround sound system, there's a different solution for them. I tried a couple tutorials to end at the same disappointing conclusion: the front two speakers and the subwoofer work. So here's the current situation:

The front two speakers are plugged into the speaker-out port (the green one) and the rear-two speakers are plugged into the line-out port (the light blue one). Since the subwoofer works I'm going to assume it uses the the same line that the front two speakers do. I've turned all the lines all the way up in alsamixer, and made sure it's playing on 4 channel. I reran alsaconf just to make sure and it configured snd-intel8x0 for me with no complaints. I also added a .asoundrc file that looks like this:

[Code]...

Then I ran "speaker-test -c 4 -D surround41 -t wav". Again only the front two speakers play any sound. I'm kinda new to configuring sound, as I've never before had a problem.
