If I install beta 12 via PPA, will it eventually update to RC, then final automatically? Is it better to download Firefox 4 from the website and install it that way? I use both Maverick and Lucid on my machines.
View 7 RepliesNew to Linux and am wanting to install ubuntu 9.10 or 10.04 on a single separate 80gb drive. I have Windows installed on 2 80gb drives in Raid0 (nvidia controller) .I have installed 9.10 but Win7 will not load from the bootloader : gives me the error invalid signature. I've looked around and tried a few things to get it to load with no success.. is the Raid0 the issue?
If I try to install 10.04 it will hang and eventually errors out, I believe on the raid drive because it comes up with dev/mapper/nvidia_hhfbdccf1..

I was running Ubuntu 10.10 Beta and everything worked great. I upgraded one time and now my screen resolution is wrong. I have tried many things, but I would like to start troubleshooting from scratch.
The computer is a Dell Inspiron 537 Desktop. It is using 1024x768 resolution, when it should be using 1280x1024.

April 8th, 2010 - Beta 2 release;
April 22nd, 2010 - Release Candidate;
April 29th, 2010 - Final release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
If I have 10.04 beta 1, could I just continue to update and not have to burn another disk to install? Or do I have to burn the beta 2 and reinstall if I want it?
I would like to start using Firefox 4.X beta and I read it was possible to install extensions such as Ad Block and No Script . What I would like is step by step instructions on how to add these currently non compatible extensions.

I am trying to use Skype beta on my acer aspire one with ubuntu 10.10. The video runs brilliantly and i can also here my wife from the other end but she cannot hear me. Apparently something is fishy with my mic input. I tried alsamixer and everything is in unmute. My alsa version is 1.0.23. The only think she hears is a loud hissing noise which is normally my bat voice but she doesnt need to know that. I can record my voice in the sound recorder but nothing comes out in Skype!

I decided to give Fedora a try and wiped my Ubuntu partition and installed Fedora. Everythings all good...except the reconfiguration of grub has left out my Windows 7 partition (nothing out of the norm) I tried manually adding windows 7 to /boot/grub/menu.lst but it's not working, when I try to boot into Windows 7 i get a little flashing "_" for a really long time and nothing happens.

I have a LiveCD of the Lubuntu Lucid 10.04 Beta. First, I will say, I'm extremely impressed with Lubuntu. It's incredibly lightweight, pretty intuitive to use, and very pretty when compared to other distros of comparable weight (eg, MEPISLite, wattOS etc.) The only problem is that when I click "Install Lubuntu," NOTHING HAPPENS. View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu Server 10.04 on a dell inspiron, twice just to make sure I didn't mess something up. Apache and SSH work fine post boot. Eventually, just inexplicably, it stops working. SSH is refused and Apache doesn't seem to be running, or it is and it's blocked. What really gets me is that I installed ssh on many many other machines on the same network, even the same ip range and they work fine. They never eventually refuse access for no reason. I checked the startup on the machine and ssh / apache do start at boot... so I'm not crazy there. It does have a static IP but so do many other machines... so I can't believe it's the router / firewall. Especially when I can connect at some point, then it just decides to stop

It creates a new folder. but when i go to try to start the application this error poppes up.error message: program not been able to find a valid license. This may be because the license file is incorrectly installed, your current license has expired, or you do not have a valid license installed. Please check that you have installed the license file in the correct directory.
