Debian Configuration :: All Of Packages Are Out Of Date - Update Not Working?

Jun 30, 2010

So I just installed Debian Lenny on my PC (the install went fine). After installing, I went into aptitude and noticed that most of the packages available in the repository are out of date (python 2.5, GCC 4.3). System Update tells me that I am up to date, and when I tell synaptic/aptitude to mark all updatable packages, it does nothing. I have tried typing apt-get update as root aswell. Nothing worked.

I installed Debian with the first DVD from [URL]. During the installation, I told it to download anything that wasn't on the DVD. Shortly after installing, I had manually edited my /etc/apt/sources.list and commented out the CD line. Could any of this have messed up APT?

Debian Configuration :: Squid3 Not Working After Update Or Reinstall

Aug 3, 2010

I run a Squid 3 server that is acting as a web filter. It worked fine on Etch. The system stopped working properly due to two of the three SATA cables being bad. Before I figured that out, I tried doing updates. Since Etch updates were no longer available, I did a distupgrade to Lenny. Immediately, Squid stopped working properly. It would take up to two and a half minutes for it to respond to a web request and add it to the access.log. This was using the same configuration file that it was using before the update.

After I found the hardware problem, I did a clean install of Lenny. I used the basic squid.conf like I did on the previous system, only changing it to add my ACLs and because it wasn't saving an access.log to the default location unless I uncommented the path directive. Now, it won't respond to a request at all. Forwarding is enabled and the firewall seems to be set up correctly.

Debian Configuration :: Keyboard And Mouse Or Maybe Screen - Freezes

Mar 29, 2010

So it's a beautiful day and I'll be happily using my computer when I realise that the screen is no longer showing that I'm typing or moving my mouse (or finger across a touch-pad). I can leave my computer in this frozen/crashed state for hours. My only recourse is to drain the battery or hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop/notebook. As my memory serves, it has an ATI graphics thingy. Radeon 1400, maybe. But I've had the computer for years and this behaviour has emerged only the past couple of months, with seemingly increasing frequency.

The OS is
# uname -a
Linux polaris 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jan 10 22:40:40 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
(aka Squeeze?)

Sometimes this happens within minutes of turning the computer on and logging into Gnome. Sometimes this happens only hours after I've started using the computer (mainly just surfing the web). Sometimes it is preceded by a loud boop sound and the following if I have console open, sometimes not. So maybe that's unrelated. But that happened just now so I thought I'd throw it in.

One weird thing: Usually this happens within an hour of starting to use the computer, but one occasion I noticed I had not had the problem for several hours. On that occasion, the only thing I noticed I was doing that was also unusual: I had turned on and forgotten about a kvm virtual machine. After I shut down the vm, I had about only a minute before the freeze. I'm surprised now that it hasn't frozen since I started typing thing. Maybe I should always keep this forum open in a browser window.

Debian Configuration :: Keyboard And Mouse Not Reacting After Boot?

Jan 22, 2011

A couple of weeks ago I installed a new 4-core Lenovo PC and installed Squeeze on it - keeping it updated every day. When kdm or gnome display the login screen, my USB-connected keyboard and mouse don't react. When I then unplug and re-attach them into the same socket everything ist fine. Surely this can't be working as intended? I can however get into BIOS-Setup as usual during the initial boot-phase by pressing Crtl-S and F1. Things also are fine when selecting the debian version to run from the multi-boot screen.

I am enclosing the kern.log of the last boot below (don't know how to attach files!). In that I can see that on line 530 ist says New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c03e (address: 5; optical Logitech mouse) and then on line 542 New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c31c (address: 6; keyboard).
It seems to get "interesting again on line 632 etc. with the message usb 2-1.8: USB disconnect, address 6.

Debian Hardware :: USB Mouse Working With USB3 But Not With USB2

Aug 1, 2014

I have Debian Jessie (testing) with a custom kernel 3.15.7 installed on an Acer Aspire V5-123 netbook which has 2 USB2, and 1 USB3 ports. The problem is that my A4 tech usb mouse is only detected when I connect it to the USB3 port!

Here is the dmesg output after I plug the mouse to the USB3 port:

Code: Select all[  844.152073] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=09da, idProduct=000a
[  844.152089] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[  844.152098] usb 1-1: Product: USB Mouse
[  844.152106] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: A4Tech

[Code] ....

and the lsusb output:

Code: Select allBus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04f2:b3f6 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

But, if I plug the mouse to one of my USB2 ports, I get the following output from lsusb regardless of having or not having my mouse connected:

Code: Select allBus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04f2:b3f6 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

And finally, the modules loaded:

Code: Select alllsmod | grep usb
usbhid                 44476  0
hid                    98196  2 hid_a4tech,usbhid
usbcore               162472  5 uvcvideo,ehci_hcd,ehci_pci,usbhid,xhci_hcd
usb_common             12440  1 usbcore

Apparently, people have had similar problems in Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, ..., but, I did not find a unique fix.

Hardware :: Mouse And Keyboard Not Working Debian Squeeze With Kde?

Feb 1, 2010

I have debian with kde on a laptop with a built in ps/2 keyboard and touch pad mouse which have been working without problem since i bought the computer. However, recently i booted the computer up and all of a sudden the mouse and keyboard are not functioning. I know it is not a hardware problem because i can type in the BIOS password, make the selection between normal and recovery mode in grub, and can type in all of my passwords to unencrypt my hard drive.

Also, it recognizes the keyboard all the way up until the point where kde starts, at which point it loads a login screen with the mouse and cursor on the screen, but no ability to type, not even caps lock or ctrl+alt+f1 to switch to console mode. does anyone know why this is? I have performed not updates and have not changed the configuration of my computer so i am not sure why this would happen.

P.S.1 out 15 times when i load the part where i need to type in the passwords to unencrypt the hard drive the keyboard will stop working then instaed of with kde.

I am not sure if it was by default middle was mouse was "pressing 2 buttons on eachside at the same time" or I did set up manually using Xmod or similar tool. I might have even set up in the hal settings. The reason I do not remember exactly is that I used multiple tuts and places to set this up long time ago and now that the functionality is gone I am kind of confused about how to go ahead about it.

Debian :: Mouse / Touchpad And Keyboard Not Working After Configuring Xorg

Jul 31, 2011

I was trying to tweak my video card's performance by configuring the xorg.conf file. There were many lines unrelated to the card there; so, to make the file cleaner, I decided to delete all the sections except the one I was dealing with. Obviously I shouldn't have done that. After rebooting the system, all the hardware that provided human interface stopped working. Now I have to find a way to delete that xorg.conf file. The computer is still connecting to the internet, and I have another computer running Debian available. Is there a way to access the broken computer with the other one?

Debian Hardware :: Logitech Wireless Mouse Not Working On 64 Bit Jessie

Sep 22, 2013

I have a couple of Logitech wireless mice (M325) with USB Unifying receivers, one for a couple of netbooks (Asus & HP) and one for my old desktop. These have been working very nicely

under 32 bit OSs :-

Windows XP

Debian testing (Wheezy & Jessie)

I now have a new 64 bit desktop (Intel i5) and the Logitech mouse

DOES work with :-

The Bios
Windows 7

But it does NOT work with :-

Debian Jessie

I have found an old mechanical Sun 3 button mouse (USB), which has got me
working to some extent, but does remind me why I got an optical wireless mouse!

My old 32 bit desktop reports :-

Code: Select all$ uname -a
Linux copper 3.10-2-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.10.7-1 (2013-08-17) i686 GNU/Linux

Code: Select all$ lsmod | grep hid
hid_logitech_dj        13054  0
usbhid                 36040  0
hid                    64702  2 usbhid,hid_logitech_dj
usbcore               110348  4 uhci_hcd,ehci_hcd,ehci_pci,usbhid

[Code]....

I need to get the comparative info off the new desktop, but I am currently hampered by the old mouse and the bug, whereby when I asked for the LXDE desktop I also got Gnome installed, and Lightdm ignores my request to start LXDE and dumps me in Gnome!!

The main differences that I have found was in the modules where the 32 bit one uses uhci_hcd, while the 64 bit one uses xhci_hcd. The dmesg section is like the above, finding the Unifying device, but is missing the last line where djdevice finds the mouse..

Debian Multimedia :: Wireless Mouse Stopped Working After Dist-upgrade

Sep 30, 2014

I have used a quite obscure device called Cideko AK0b [URL] .... for quite some time now and it has worked perfectly for almost 2 years now, both in Wheezy and in Jessie. However since I made an dist-upgrade a while back the mouse has totally stopped working. The system works through wifi - strangely enough - but everything else works. Keyboard and gamepad buttons. The manufacture says the things doesn't work on linux and so far I have proved them wrong.

But now the mouse is just out right dead no matter what I do. Have looked into mouse autosuspend but no avail so far. My suspicion is systemd but that is as good as any guess.

Running 3.14-2-amd64.

This is my dmesg.

Code:
