I just installed proftpd using webpin but when i tried to gonfigure it ,i figured out that the configuration file proftpd.conf is empty, is it about permission ?i just dont get it!

1. Type: LoadModule rewrite_module /libexec/mod_rewrite.so
2. Find the <VirtualHost> section in the httpd.conf file.
3. Find a line in the <VirtualHost> section of the httpd.conf that looks like this: AllowOverride None
3. Replace that line with this line: AllowOverride FileInfo Options
4. On a new line, type ServerAlias *.[URL].
5. Save the httpd.conf file and close it.
I've been working on the setup of a FTP server on my Debian system for the whole afternoon. But I can't get it straight! Normally I get it working in just a second, but it's been a while I guess.
I installed only proftpd-basic and it's default dependencies. Should be enough right?
My configuration files are as follows:
I created the user zeitgeist, gave it a password, group and a homedir. Group of the user is nogroup and the homedir is correct with the 755 permission. My port 21 for FTP is open I tested it with nmap -p 21 [ip-address].
My Filezilla client tells me that at first he is connecting, then the connection is established, And then the connection is closed by server.
When run xbmc error acquiredparams.cpenConfFile() - Unable to open configuration file "/home/hamed/.smb/smb.conf": No such file or directorymb was disabled as default and I don't use it, I was put the smb configure file into .smb in home but problem still exist.

I am having no luck configuring ProFTPd on a Debian Lenny production server we use to host our MySQL databases and a few websites. I had originally set it up so I could login and manage our internal sites, but I have the need to allow a few clients in to access their sites that we host. I am trying to root the users in their site directory, which would be "/sites/www.whatever.com/".
It just hit me while typing this. Is it possible to create a user without a shell to prevent login via SSH and set the home folder to /sites/whatever instead of /home/username? That would allow me to continue operating with my current configuration and root them in their site while preventing SSH logins.

I have 44% used. It should be much smaller, under 10%. How do I empty the /tmp file or other file to free up space?
I was following the installation guide of SNMP client and server [URL], but when I do an apt-get install snmp scli tkmib the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf is empty with nothing inside..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was copying an .avi file to an external hard drive and half way through the copy the drive reset and required remounting. Consequently I have an empty .avi file on the hard drive. I tried to recopy the file and overwrite, but I keep getting 'Could not write to media/harddrive/filename.avi'. I tried to rename to file to be copied but got the same response, I cannot delete the empty file either, as I get an error telling I cannot delete it. I have tried to do this as the user and root with the same result.Any other file I tried to copy onto the external hard drive is fine, just this one zero length file and the file I was trying to copy, the original of the file. I also tried to delete the file on another computer but couldn'tExternal hard drive is a WD elements ntfs, which works great except for this glitch.

I switched to my onboard Video Card CN896/VN896/P4M900 [Chrome 9 HC]. Here is a bigger problem, compiz dosen't work, hd videos, some flash. I have formated HDD and installed again Ubuntu 10.10. Ubuntu automatic installed the xserver-xorg-video-openchrome. The /etc/X11/xorg.conf is empty.
I rent a dedicated virtual server (ve) from Media Temple. It is one of those servers where they give you the base OS install and then you have to install all of your own applications.
Anyways, setting up the FTP software for the server has been hell. I am using ProFTPd and Webmin 1.510. I am able to log into the FTP and upload files to any of the directories that I have created.
The issue here is that I cannot download anything from my server via FTP. I have tried multiple clients (Filezilla is what I use normally), but they all come back with "Transfer cannot be started".
That PoS called "gadmin-proftpd" does.NOT.work in debian stable and I don't believe it will ever work. Is there an alternative GUI for configuring proftpd or it has to be done in text mode?

Im having proftpd 1.3.3a standalone on squeeze with mysql backend. It all works fine with one little problem. When i log in to directory, there is nothing in it - knowing there is shed load of files. Directories are simply not being listed. Im logging in as group member and directory permissions are rwxr-xr-x. In addition to that when i try to create new directory connection is being lost and client attempts to reconnect. After successful reconnection, connection gets lost and over and over again until i abort.

i find Failed binding to 0.0.0.0, port 201: Address already in use. Check the ServerType directive to ensure you are configured correctly.
cups does not start with the server. When I try to start from the terminal I get the error message
cupsd: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf' - exiting!
cupsd: Child exited with status 1!
The log files show nothing. cupsd.conf exists. It is user - root and group - root with permissions set at 0644.
My interpretation of this is that the program is not launching from either boot or terminal for a fundamental reason. I do not quite see what that reason is .
I was just able to buy a new laptop and everything is going ok except there is no sound coming from the speakers only the headphones (hda ATI SBx00 Azalia Intel HDA) and I found this useful post ([ubuntu] No sound with hp 6735s, ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) - Ubuntu Forums) except there is no modprobe.conf file in my modprobe.d directory.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to set a default for new users for the akonadi mysql.conf file that is created for each user for the akonadi database. Usually this file contains a inno_db_log_file_size of 64MB. Because of this the database eats up 64MB storage even if its still empty. I would like to decrease this size globally for each "new" user since we have very tight storage restrictions on our NFS home directories now. And 64MB make up already have the quota each user has. So this is to much. where is this default mysql.conf file taken from?
I found hints that there used to be a /usr/share/config/akonadi/mysql-global.conf file that was simply copied but I cannot find such a file on my 11.4 system. It seems things have changed. how akonadis user specific mysql.conf file in ~/.local/share/akonadi/ is generated for a new user? How can I use my own template file here?
I've just done a fresh install of Lubuntu 10.10 on an older Sony Vaio laptop. Having learned the hard way about editing xorg files, I wanted to create a backup of the xorg.conf file so that I dont have to do another install when I screw everything up. In a terminal, I typed

I got everything working except any localhost connections from within the server. I've tried to connect using localhost, 127.0.0.1, and dedicated IP from within the server and several CMS sites I have moved over to the server and all the local host connections fail.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Debian workstation is on a predominantly Windows network. It is resolving internet addresses (i.e. www.google.com, etc) just fine. However it's not resolving any of the address of machines on the local network and the windows machines do not resolve the linux machines address either. All machines (linux and windows) can access each other just fine via direct IP reference.
My /etc/resolv.conf file has the following IP addresses listed:
127.0.0.1
10.1.1.111
10.1.3.4
10.1.1.111 is a netgear VPN/router that is the primary router for the LAN and maintains a VPN to a remote office 10.1.3.4 is the IP address of the Windows Primary Domain control on which the DNS server is running. That server is at the remote office. The system acts like it is completely ignoring anything I put in the resolv.conf file. From the linux X server I'm using "Network Setting" utility to make changes to the network configuration. This appears to work fine for things like switch between DHCP and static IP.
I'm trying to get the latest Lenny running on some old hardware (a Winterm 3150se). Everything is working just fine except for two things.
When Gnome starts, it comes up at 1600x1200 resolution, which is too high for my monitor. It shows a portion of the right side of the display, If I select Screen Resolution, it gives me a few standard choices, but if I pick one, it acts like it's trying to honor my request, then comes back as 1600x1200 again.
My xorg.conf file had no references to Modeline, so I added a 1024x768 Modeline, not really understanding where the selection I was given was coming from. Anyway, it didn't help.
I can see in the log file that right after the entry about using xorg.conf, it says 'Module "ddc" already built-in', which must have something to do with it?
My hardware supports all the usual video formats, at least it does when it's running WinCE. Is there a way to force the use of xorg.conf or can someone tell me why DDC is acting like it's "read only"? Is DDC a file somewhere?
My other problem is that the Winterm refuses to not try to boot from the flash memory thumbdrive even though it's formatted as a non-bootable device - it's my SSDisk. I have to boot without the drive in, then slip in in just as the boot process exits the blue start screen. I can live with this problem, since it might be dumb hardware.
I just system-upgraded (testing) to kernel 2.6.38. All seems ok, except that a few things I added to xorg.conf in the past (basically, keyboard language switch) have no effect anymore. My xorg.conf is still there, it is still the same as before, but the changes I did in XkbdLayout section have no effect. It seems xorg.conf is not used anymore. I assume new version of xorg uses a different configuration file, but I'm not sure.
