I would like to connect via SSH or similar to my servers located in a remote DC from a laptop running centos5. I normally do this on a puter running dows, and using secureCRT. Just wondering if centos has something built in for this, or if there is some preferably free software I can get.

I'm having a problem with what seems to be an iptables thing or something easier than that, Enough here is the question I can get apache to run on the local machine by either going to http://localhost or by the ipaddress on the CentOS machine. But for some reason when I try to take a look on my laptop (on the same network) and try to go to it using the IP address is doesn't go. I can ssh from my laptops but it will not open the apache startup page.

Everything was working great except now when lucci starts mysql the port (3306) is never opened to outside machines. I can do a "ps -ef | grep mysql" and see it running as well as login to mysql on the node it is running on - but an nmap of the machine does not show the 3306 port and I cannot login to mysql remotely and yes I turned off all iptables(iptables,ip6tables) and SElinux is disabled.What am I missing here? If I start mysql on my own (and it is using the same my.cnf as lucci is) it does show the port open and works perfect,t for some reason when lucci starts it, no dice
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince a few weeks I cannot open a console in vmware server 2.0.2 anymore. I don't know exactly when this started because I use vmware only occasionally (I have only 1 program (an old Ashlar DrawingBoard) which does not run properly in wine). VMware server and the console have been working before without problems, but now I get the message "Cannot connect virtual machine console." and it times out. This is on Opensuse 11.1 with VMware Server on the same pc, Firefox and the guest is Windows2000.
I have tried to disable all extensions in firefox 3.6, disabled the firewall, even created a new user (on the same pc) with a clean firefox, all without any result. However when I connect from a different computer which runs Internet Explorer under windowsXP, then I can get the console without problem.
So, somewhere there is something wrong between Firefox and VMware server.

This NAS is 24/7 online and I can access it from the net.More than that it's backed up every day.
I was thinking of making my home directory directly in this NAS.
I didn't made a separate partition for my Home during the installation of slackware in the PC.
I recently purchased a linux VPS from [URL] just to learn and play around with. I currently ssh into the machine via Putty from various Windows boxes. Is there anyway to throw some mp3s on the remote server and then have them play locally? Server is currently running Ubuntu Server 10.04.1.

#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly config).
When I VNC into my CentOS server I am always met with the usual GUI and an annoying terminal window. If I try to close the terminal window it reappears immediately. I can only minimize it to the taskbar. Am I missing a simple setting to disable this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an apache server running on my ubuntu machine. I can view them using my local ip (192.168.1.6):80/. And my friends can view the things hosted on my server using my external ip (example http://123.123.123.123:80) but when a friend links back to me to show me what they are looking at and share the moment, I can't view the link, it simply redirects to my router login page.
I had an older linksys router and this could work fine. I could click on the links with my external IP and it routes back to my server for viewing.
Remember to note that I am on the machine that has the server, and I'd like to be redirected out and back to it so we can share pictures back and fourth without me having to replace the external IP address with my local one just to view that link in the browser.
Is there any way to redirect a remote Linux machine mplayer output audio to local one?

I am now trying to setup a VSFTP server where local users can upload files to there home directory so that Apache can serve web pages straight from the directories of system user home/accounts giving users the ability to run their own web sites which are hosted off the main server [tutorial here: [url]
So far i have been able to serve/display index.html files from the users home directory [url] but so far i cant upload files to any user home directory, every time i try to upload a file with filezilla i get this error message: 553 Could not create file. Critical file transfer error
I have searched online for similar problems like mine and so far i've tried alot of the solution but none seem to work. I'm confused, dont know where i went wrong, i put the users in a group called ftpusers and here are the permissions on the users (test, ftpuser & testftp) home directory. have a look an tell me where i went wrong :(

I've installed CentOS 5.3 on a machine, and I need a Samba version 3.2 or higher. Since 3.4 is out, I thought I'd grab that. But, "yum list|grep samba" gives me only version 3.0.33. Is there a package of Samba I can grab that will upgrade the 3.0 installation so that I don't have two laying around? If not and I need to compile from source, do you have any suggestions for what arguments I should give configure? I'm not used to Linux coming from the BSD world

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just install xen and kernel-xen version 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5xen, booting into the xen kernel dom0 shows me continous colorful scrambling and scrolling. I can ssh to dom0 and get correct display but the dom0 console is where it shows the colorful garbage scrolling. i have the Supermicro X7DC motherboard with a XGI Z9 graphics card. GUI is not installed and I don't have the rhgb parameter in my grub.conf. My grub.conf is plain and unmodified.
