I just configured vhost server in my linux server. When trying to access the open source (SugarCRM) application running on it, its giving me the error message that i am not connected to internet. I have restarted apache by no luck.

I recently purchased a linux VPS from [URL] just to learn and play around with. I currently ssh into the machine via Putty from various Windows boxes. Is there anyway to throw some mp3s on the remote server and then have them play locally? Server is currently running Ubuntu Server 10.04.1.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLast night I setup bind9 on my server. I created a local domain (name.local). The server's ip address is 192.168.1.254
The issue that I'm having is that with my ubuntu laptop, I can't ping the name of the server.

But when I do the same ping from both the server and a XP computer, it will respond.
I can ping the laptop with it's name (prefect.name.local) from both the server and the xp computer.
This is my /etc/resolv.conf file:

Also, when I do nslookup name.local or dig name.local, the return with no errors.
Why is it that I can't use the name of the server to access it and that only the ip address works?
Even ping google's ip address doesn't work. unknown host error using backtrack4 able to browse net with these settings.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm switching internet providers and right now have service with 2. I tried switching my server over today, and ran into trouble so decided to switch it back. I got everything set up again, and it all seems to work - except for ONE of my vhosts. The others work as expected. One (the only "real" site I host) simply hangs. I am "watching" the log file, and the top-level request for "/" (sometimes) comes through and reports response code 200. But, none of the other files (images, css, etc) get requested, and the page never loads.I'm not sure where to even start. Apache is fine since the other vhosts work. I didn't make any changes to my config - except for changing the ip address in my dns. But, that's the same for all vhosts.
It may be worthwhile to note that I changed it back when I tried bringing up the site with the new ISP and it brought up my (new) modem settings with the url. I panicked and couldn't figure out how to fix it.. I thought maybe someone could have been playing with my modem settings (I was automatically logged in as administrator), so I set it back to factory settings. Then I couldn't get the internet to work at all, and changed it back to my original service. Now everything works except for the one vhost.
I have a friend that has a problem with his site on my server.He doesn't have any problem on other servers so I guess there's something wrong in the config that I can change.The site is in /html_doc and then he has a couple of other forlders for example, /api
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an ubuntu kk laptop connected via wireless to my mixed network (xp, win7, other ubuntu), but i can not ping said machine or connect via ssh. Internet and smb-browsing ON this machine work, as does pinging FROM it. If this was a windows machine, I'd say a firewall is in the way, but since it's a vanilla karmic install, this should not be the case (or should it?).

A. Windows machine settings as follows:

B. For Linux machine, I will list everything stored in network files, logged as [root@localhost ~]# :

I need to create an automated backup scheme so I created another Ubuntu instance on my local network which is hosted in a virtual environment. I managed to transfer the necessary files between 2 machines on the same network using the rsync command:
rsync -azvv -e ssh /home/path/folder1/ remoteuser@remotehost.remotedomain:/home/path/folder2
How can I do the same thing but transferring files from my Amazon server to my local server? Is there a way I can achieve this with port forwarding, or by VPN, or anything else? It doesn't have to be rsync. If you know about a better method, kindly let me know.
So I have apache running on my local computer. When I open up local development sites in tabs in my browser, apache threads are started. That's as it should be. However, when I close the tabs, close the browsers, and then run system monitor/system task manager, I get a long list of apache threads that are sleeping, waiting around for god knows what. How do I get these apache threads to stop hanging around?

I have installed MySQL over yum on fedora.
but the path and file /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock does not exist on my system?
I've tried /etc/init.d/mysql start, and it actually starts, or at least, it doesn't error out. But when I do pgrep mysql I get nothing, and when I try to login with mysql -p as root, I get

None of my other logins work, either, but since pgrep mysql didn't work, it's clear that MySQL just isn't running. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling mysql-server via apt-get, but I get the same thing. The logs in /var/log/syslog show this:

using redhat on server machine and open suse on client machine.i have installed nfs server and and it is running properly but when i want to mount shares from my client machine it gives the following.

I've setup two slackware in a Dell Inspiron 640m e in Acer Aspire One D150.
In my router the domain is "home", the two slack use wicd (dhcpcd backend) to connect. I can go in internet.
The problem is that in my router panel I can see the hostname (so dhcpcd send the right one) but they can't ping other machine in the lan (windows 2000, nas or other linux box).
Now I can't use a fixed ip (i change several networks with different routers).
I think I miss something that can ask to my router the hostname.
Anyway I was able to ping Dell.local and Acer.local with Ubuntu karmic.
So, I have an Virtual Machine running CentOS 5.4. It sits behind a hardware firewall which also does NAT'ing. I've set up plenty of these, so I know for sure the firewall and NAT rules are set up correctly. From the host, I can ping anything in my subnet and the gateway. But I can't ping anything else beyond the gateway. I can perform DNS queries and when I try to ping, it finds the appropriate IP address.But from the outside, I can ping the PUBLIC address (It's a 1 public to 1 private address NAT, not 1 public to multiple private). I've tried it with IPTABLES on and off, with no change.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 12 on my laptop. I have a wireless connection to the internet that works fine, I attached an Ethernet cable from this laptop to a windows machine. There is a green light.
I can ping my localhost. I can ping the windows machine using it internal IP address via the router. However, the eth0 IP address does not work when I ping to it from the windows nachine. Also, I cannot ping to the windows machine using the IP address associated with the Ethernet connection.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and using it on a Windows Network.

I am using an virtual machine. where I need to ping from one machine to another. earlier I was able to ping. But after going to google.com once, I cannot ping back to this machine.

ever since upgrading from karmic to lucid, i cannot ping fqdn hosts in .local tlds. nslookup & dig work, but most other utilities fail (ping, traceroute, etc...). i know .local is an invalid tld, but apple seems to have made it a defacto standard on private networks, so i'd imagine somebody else has seen this issue before... is there a simple fix that doesn't require managing hosts file entries on a bunch of systems?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo in an effort to increase the speed of my netbook, I removed Ubuntu and installed Lubuntu on it. When I tried to mount my samba share as I normally do, I noticed it wasn't able to connect - mount error(113): No route to host. Sensing something fishy, I attempted to ping the machine (both by name and by IP) - Destination Host Unreachable.The machine I'm trying to connect to is using Ubuntu 10.04 x64. I attempted to ping the other way and it was able to connect to the netbook just fine. When the netbook was using Ubuntu, it was connecting fine. My iptables check out ok, but here is the output of iptables -nvL:

Does lubuntu have some funky firewall built in to it that I can't find? (I've Googled for information on a Lubuntu default firewall and can't find any)
when i tried the command mysql -u root it is giving me an error that "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'(2)" although my mysql server is ruuning beacuse i m using XAMMP server and its inbuild mysql server is running i cannot use service mysqld start command beacuse this command try to start another instance of mysql and i required mysql of XAMMP.
