CentOS 5 :: Installed Acronis Agent But Doesn't Work?
Dec 1, 2009I'm quite new to Linux and totally new to CentOS. I need it to isntall a Lotus Domino Server, and for security reason i'd like to install the Acronis Linux agent to backup this server with my Win Acronis enterprise server. I have installed a new CentOS server 5.4 on a Vmware virtual machine, then installed the Acronis Linux agent following the instruction here [URL].. The agent seems to work because with the command "/etc/init.d/acronis_agent status" the sistem respond with "Acronis Agenti is running"
But i can't connect to the agent from the server console!
I have disabled the firewall to avoid any connectin problem...
Does anybody use acronis with CentOS?

BACKGROUND:
My local subnet (NAT'ed by my gateway router) is 192.168.52.x. My router has been configured with a conduit (port-forward) for port 1194 (the standard OpenVPN port), which points towards my CentOS server.The CentOS server is .52.112, and the supplicant is .52.110. I have tried the lient both inside and outside my local subnet, with no difference in events or outcomes.

CentOS 5 :: Dual Booting With Windows 7 - Just Doesn't Work
Oct 2, 2010I'm a visual effects artist and although many VFX post production houses use linux, I've always used windows because of the programs. At this point, I've migrated to different programs which are also available on linux. The only set of programs I won't have, would be the Adobe Suite. So, I decided to finally start using linux again. I used it back when I was a kid for a few years, but just to have it really. We mainly use macs at work, but I'm switching to linux now.
Since I mainly use Autodesk Maya, the first choice would've been RHEL. Which is why I'm here now, you can guess.
I've downloaded the .iso of CentOS 5.5 and checked it against the hashes and it came out fine. I burned it to a DVD and booted my main computer (I have 3 I plan on installing it onto) and tested the media, came back fine.
I have two HDs, one 1.5TB SATA and one 150GB SATA. The 1.5TB is the C: drive of windows, and I've shrunk it to allow 80GB for linux.
So that is sda. sda1 is the windows partition and I make sda2 ext3 out of the empty space by choosing the custom partition scheme. It installs fine.
However, booting up the computer boots straight to windows. No GRUB.
I've reinstalled many times now, changing the GRUB from sda to sda1 to sda2. Nothing.

I've adapted that guide to CentOS and tried that, but whenever I select the CentOS option during bootup, the computer instantly restarts itself.
I've tried reinstalling the GRUB via a Live CD like many googled sites say to, but I always get errors.
If I find the /boot/grub/stage1, it says it can't be found.
If I try to setup GRUB, it says /boot/grub/stage1 is unreadable
So, I download the Ubuntu CD and install that. I use the guide previously posted to do the same thing, by installing GRUB onto sda2 where Ubuntu is.
So I pick that option on startup and it brings me to Ubuntu's GRUB menu. It all works fine. CentOS doesn't though.
Ubuntu is using GRUB2, so it has a grub.cfg file. Inside the file near the end, it lists Ubuntu as (hd0,2) and windows as (hd0,1).
That shouldn't be right? What's (hd0,0) then?
The CentOS grub.conf file lists CentOS as (hd0,1) and windows as (hd0,0). That should be correct. But I change it anyway to (hd0,2) and (hd0,1) and it still doesn't work.

Aug 5, 2011Ive been running windows 7/Ubuntu dualboot for some years now and never had any problems.Some months ago I got a new Patriot Inferno ssd. Ofc the first thing I did was to installl windows 7, it had no problems, ran fast and smooth. Then when I reinstalled grub I started to get error when trying to start windows, the logo never apeared and all I got was the message "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software"Status: 0x00.00F" "Info: The boot selection failed because a required device was inaccessible.". It does not matter what order I install windows and ubuntu in, or how many times Ive tried to reinstall grub. Windows 7 will not work while I have grub/windows installed. Right now Ive got them installed on separate drives, ubuntu on the ssd and windows on a partition on a 1tb hdd. Unfortunately I need to have windows for .net programing and gaming..

When I run a music or movie file and say open with VLC - nothing happens. I installed mplayer but it seems to have problems with playing streams and I'd prefer vlc anyway...I tried now several fresh installations using CentOS 5.2, RHEL Server 5.3 and RHEL Desktop 5.3 - same result .. VLC installs without being able to actually start it.

To give one example. I go to a web I use frequently and the following message is displayed at the top: "Additional plug-ins are required to display media on this page"
I click on "install mising plug-ins" and select Flash Player-installer. Bu then it tells me it's already installed! This has only happened since last night when I installed the updates!

Jan 30, 2010All my other systems work fine, tried setting mtu to 1492. Everything is set manually in network connections. Tried deleting and making a new connection. I set the dns servers in the /etc/resolve (don't remember the exact path.) I can ping servers fine. This was a fresh install of 9.10. Again, the internet worked fine until I installed the updates from the update manager.I had internet problems when I first started using ubuntu a couple years ago.

Secondly, I wrote iwconfig wlan0 essid (my essid). Well.
Then, I wrote iwconfig wlan0 key (my key wep). An error message appears. How can I write my key wep?

May 2, 2010I can't connect to my ssh-server (on ubuntu 10.04) from any external address. The error in putty is "connection timed out". From my internal network, everything works fine, even if I select my external IP address and port in putty as the destination.
This is what I have done so far:
installed open ssh with the ubuntu server 10.04 cd
set up port forwarding (11041) in my router (seems to work ok, port is open according to "shields up")
configured ssh to use port 11041 in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
changed tcp and udp ssh port in /etc/services to 11041
enabled UFW and did sudo ufw allow ssh

Nov 1, 2010I'm runnig f 13 on my laptop, and it runs like a charm. But once in a while, the internet doesn't seem to work properly. It mostly works, but right now i am unable to reach certain pages such at google (which is annoying), whereas other pages like yahoo and this one works perfectly well.

Jan 4, 2010I just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10. When I restarted, I admired the new login menu, then went to Firefox. I noticed that my wireless didn't work (it did in 9.04) Thinking I'd just need to reinstall the drivers, I plugged in the computer to a working Ethernet outlet with a working cord. I noticed that Ubuntu didn't tell me that Auto eth0 was connected. It didn't tell me anything. And then I went to Google and realized that the wired connection didn't work either. Then I came here on an iPod Touch and you know the rest.
Edit: And other devices work too on the network.

I don't have direct access to this machine, but they told me that internet is not working (firefox, synaptic,etc...), but only skype works! Feb 16, 2010I have just dual booted my pc to run windows 7(64 bit) and ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit). This is my FIRST time using ubunutu and i have spent the whole day trying to get my internet working but with no success. I have come so close to giving up on ubuntu but for some reason i just cant let go! When i type in ifconfig in the terminal i can see that i have an ip address assigned and i can ping my router. My motherboard came with linux drivers and i tried installing the LAN drivers with the included instructions i have got no where. I did find out that the file name in the instructions was wrong and the actual name is r8168-8.012.00. Here are the instructions-
