I want to upgrade Ubuntu 10.10 installed through Wubi to 11.04. Now, Windows doesn't work. I can't upgrade Ubuntu by it because it is impossible to download files. Can I upgrade it without connecting Ubuntu to the Internet and starting Windows?

I install ubuntu 9.10 via wubi in XP. I upgrade it to 10.04LTS After reboot, I can't enter into neither ubuntu nor XP the screen prompt:

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 with WUBI. In the setup wizard in windows, I selected the D partition to install Ubuntu on. It extracted the files, and after a reboot, and selecting Ubuntu, the Ubuntu setup wizzard appeared. After it was done, it rebooted. I selected Ubuntu, and this appeared on my screen:

And there it stucks! I tried editing C:oot.ini, to let it select the ubuntu files.

I have very little space on my system partition (C:) So, I installed it on D:. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2.
I've been using kubuntu from time to time, and one thing that i love was the option to install/uninstall as if it was another common windows application. A few days ago, i downloaded the 10.10 release, and after i executed wubi, i just get 2 option: Full demo and install and learn more So, am I doing something wrong? BTW, i also run wubi with an ISO next to it, but it shows the same window. So, is there a way to install kubuntu as a windows appa again? I've tried google, but everything seems to point that that feature still exists, but i cant find it.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi installed ubuntu desktop 11.04 on my acer aspire one 751h and found that the wifi didnt work. the netbook remix was the same so i went through all the previous releases up until 8.0.4.4 which worked fine on the live cd. so i tried to install but the installer didnt see my main hard drives only the usb i was using to install. so i tried using wubi installer which only left me with this screen when i tried to load up ubuntu.

Ofc the first thing I did was to installl windows 7, it had no problems, ran fast and smooth. Then when I reinstalled grub I started to get error when trying to start windows, the logo never apeared and all I got was the message "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software"Status: 0x00.00F" "Info: The boot selection failed because a required device was inaccessible.". It does not matter what order I install windows and ubuntu in, or how many times Ive tried to reinstall grub. Windows 7 will not work while I have grub/windows installed. Right now Ive got them installed on separate drives, ubuntu on the ssd and windows on a partition on a 1tb hdd. Unfortunately I need to have windows for .net programing and gaming..

I have installed ubuntu 11.04 using wubi with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. The operating system works fine. Althoughwhen I boot and choose linux I get an error message during boot which stays forever. I have to shut down using power button and start again when it boots fine.
Another problem is when I restart from ubuntu it restarts back to the desktop but when I shut down, it does not shut down the computer. Stays on with blank screen forever. I am attaching the image of latest error I received on boot.

I get that a grub. I'm not even sure if ubuntu can even boot because my monitor won't let me see anything. I'm using the driver off the nvidia website, not the stock one that came with ubuntu.
This weekend I did a distribution upgrade to Karmic, but it didn't go very well. Upon reboot, I see a white ubuntu logo on a black screen. I hear the speakers pop, and the screen flashes several times, sorta like the blank screen is maybe changing video modes. After a while I see what I think is garbled text but is unreadable, and it looks like I can log on even though I can't read anything. Now, booting into recovery mode gets me to a readable prompt. There are no upgrades to apply. Typing gdm from here gets me to the desktop just fine. Also when booting, if I choose an earlier kernel the system boots fine also, except the touchpad doesn't work.

Did a desktop setup and afterwards installed Eclipse, and I was happy: A new system for coding on-the-go! Now, after upgrading to Lucid with do-release-upgrade -d, I can no longer enter my password on X login. The keyboard just doesn't work for some reason. When I enable the onscreen keyboard, and click my password, I can login. The strange thing is that my keyboard works like a charm after I've logged into my X session?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded my web/tv setup from 9.10 to lucid and everything seems to be working apart from my infra red remote control.The remote was working fine in 9.10 and was used to control mythtv-frontend however after the upgrade the remote appears to be controlling ubuntu natively, i.e. right left up and down control what is selected on the desktop where as previously the remote was set to only work within mythtv. Whilst native support for my remote control is muchly appreciated(if that is what this is) where can I configure the controls so that it is usable again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to upgrade to Leonidas from Cambridge, but didn't have enough space on the partition /, so I soft linked /var/cache/yum (or whatever) to a larger partition, but now the upgrade does not find the subdirectory called preupdate (it's there in the linked dir, checked). Is there any more sofisticated way around than changing parition sizes and copying and stuff?
View 4 Replies View Relatedtoday i've installed kubuntu with wubi for windows 7 on my hp pavilion dv6 with processor Intel Core i7 Q720 @1.60GHz with 4 Gb of RAM @ 64bit with NVIDIA Geforce GT 230M but i've had some problems.Infact the system continued to freeze after some minutes due to overheating so i restarted the computer and the Bios told me that to prevent damage to internal components the computer has been freezed. I repeated the process and i checked out the temperature with the desktop widget and it actually reached after some minutes 80-85� C so i cleaned the computer and the temperature turned back to normal (50-60�C) but the problem continued to exist! After several minutes the computer freezed again and the BIOS told me the same things he told me before (90� and computer freezed due to prevent damage for overheating).

I thought it was something wrong with the disk or something like that, but when I pop in the disk on my Dad's laptop, the installation for Fedora runs perfectly.
Also, yes, I checked the order for booting and the CD drive comes before the hard drive.
I have a ubuntu 10.10 wubi installation. It is installed to drive g:. While using ubuntu it is not showing me option to mount to this drive. It is showing all other drives.

Wubi doesn't seem to run on Win ME? I downloaded wubi and click to run, the hour glass spins for ten seconds then nothing happens. Windows task manager shows nothing related to wubi running. Situation : I want to install a dual boot UBUNTU system on an older laptop whose CD is broken, floppy works, it's already dual partioned, the BIOS doesn't support booting to USB drives, but it can read USB drives. I've got a similar laptop that fully installed 9.1 from CD and it works fine (ubuntu only).
I figured if I could install a dual boot ubuntu on this unit via wubi, I could then delete and absorb the windows partition. However, wubi doesn't appear to run. Supposedly wubi runs on 98. I can't ever recall anything that 98 ran that ME couldn't.Except Wubi? Could it be having trouble connecting to the internet via an old browser (ie 5.5).
I have been reading about Ubuntu for a long time and now I finally decided to give it a try. I am now running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2. I downloaded the Ubuntu 10.10 and the appropriate wubi for it. I wish to install using wubi as this is my first time using Ubuntu and I wish to see if it is the right thing for me. However after 4 hours I now give up. Both wubi and the .iso file are on the same folder yet when I click wubi.exe I get the usual windows permission prompt and after I click continue nothing happens, no installation, no prompts, just nothing happens. When I run wubi to install 10.4 the process will start and then instantly terminate. I've tried to download the wubi.exe file and also tried running it from the CD (mounted with daemon tools). Nothin happens! This is strange since I actually installed the beta of 10.4 with wubi a couple of weeks ago. Now nothing happens at all!
At one point Norton blocked pyrun.exe and I thought that was it but after disabling norton and downloading another wubi.exe there's no change. I'm runnig Windows 7 64 bit and i also have python installed, maybe that can interfere in some way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just updated my ubuntu 10.10 installation inside windows (wubi) and after that I shut down my computer. Later on I switched it on again and was unable to boot ubuntu. Ususally I first get the 'Windows boot menu' and after i select ubuntu i get the grub menu. Now, when I select ubuntu in the windows boot menu I dont get grub after that but instead the computer restarts. Is there any way to fix this issue without reinstalling ubuntu.
