Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet Installation - Could Not Get Realtek 8168 On Mother Board To Work On Gigabyte H55M-S2H Motherboard

Mar 5, 2010

I have installed Ubuntu 9.04
uname -r
2.6.28-11-generic

Checked cable/network with 386Box running Ubuntu 8.04 all OK. Could not get Realtek 8168 on mother board to work on Gigabyte H55M-S2H motherboard. I tried to install r8168 driver but no luck ... so I bought another Linux compatible card which turned out to be a RTL8139c (eth1) and the driver I am using on this is card is 8139too.

[Code]....

My preference would be to get the motherboard ethernet working but perhaps the card may be easier to get working. Anyway after searching the net for ideas and trying different things I've just about given up. I have reinstalled Ubuntu today so eth0 is back to using the r8169 driver. I'm no expert so my attempts at following other recipies have so far failed. From what I have read the 8139too driver should have worked with the RTL8139C chip so I have run out of ideas. I must be doing something wrong.

Fedora Hardware :: Install Freezes After Disks Detections On Mobo Gigabyte G41M-ES2h

Mar 9, 2010

When I tried to run the fedora 12 disk setup (iso), instead of having the nice fedora logo I quickly get tetxt lines showing all my sata disks and USB card readers properly detected though... and the instal freezes. This PC is a mobo Gigabyte G41m-ES2h with 2x500 GB WD disk... Very basic config with a wolfdale 2.93 GHz + 4 GB DDR2 ram... I don't quite understand as Ubuntu 9.1 setup does the same thing whereas "superGRUB" launched from a CD detects my disks & partitions normally.

This fedora 12 disk is ok (fedora 12 installed on 2 other laptops in dual boot) and on the first satat disk there is a Vista. Really don't get it but isolinux has had sometimes issues with sata disks on some of my previous PCs.

I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. When I change to "eth0 (Intel EtherExpress/100 driver)...sometimes become "Active" an other times said that the MAC address is different or to check the cable because can't find the IP. What is the best way of specifying the names of ethernet devices in CentOS5.5 or later? There seems to be at least two ways of doing this: Would the 60_net.rule file override a 010_netinterfaces.rules file because it gets executed later, or would the 010_ net interfaces. rule file set up the info in /sys which would then be used by 60_net.rule?

CentOS 5 Networking :: Ethernet Can Not Work After Inserting RTL8168B Driver?

May 22, 2010

I changed a mainboard so the network card is RTL8111/8168B Gigabit now. By "ifconfig -a", there is only io, no eth0.

I got a driver r8168.ko from: [URL]

After I insert the r8168.ko, there is eth0. Run "/etc/init.d/network restart", it reports "Determing IP information for eth0... failed; no link present, Check Cable", and I noticed the lights of network card and runter are all off. I can use "ifconfig eth0" now but it cannot connect to other machine.

It's Gigabit card and my runter is 10/100M. I tried "#insmod r8168 speed=100 duplex=1 autoneg=1" and "#insmod r8168 speed=100 duplex=0 autoneg=1", it can not get IP by DHCP either. I also build the .ko from Realteck source code, the behavior is the same.

if I need to do other configurations?

My CentOS is CentOS5, 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP.

2.6.18-8.el5 i686 i386
