I am trying to get my VM to work. It tells me the virtual box Kernal driver is not loaded, how do I get started on getting this to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to have FC11 installed with the nvidia supplied binary driver. Worked fine, very stable. Trying FC12 and FC13 live CDs caused a hang, so I stuck with FC11. FC14 live CD did boot so I backed up my own files and did a clean FC14 install. Upgraded to get kernel 2.6.35.6-48, installed the nvidia driver from RPMFusion (260.19.21) and had a working system! Now, after a cold boot, the kernel always hangs during boot. Tried a number of kernel boot option (apci=off, noapic and a few others too). The hang is not always at the same place. The earliest it has hung is after:Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
Sometimes its a few lines later at:NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 260.19.12 ...(which would seem to imply that the hang can even occur a step or two before the actual driver is loaded!)
Sometimes it keeps going for a few more seconds and randomly hangs during some other driver load.
Without a specific nvidia driver the system always boots ok, so I'm pretty sure its the nvidia driver but I just can't seem to get a handle on this in a reproducible way. Sometimes, when I have make some other change, it will boot and work ok, but a reboot locks it up again (for example, in case it was SELinux, I disabled it and on the next reboot it booted and worked ok. Then, next boot, it wasn't working again). When I make changes, I reboot using the previous kernel, make the changes and reboot, with an occasional success. Once I start rebooting using the latest kernel, it always hangs.
I'd love to get a solution to this, but even some advice on debugging this would be appreciated!
I'm using 8600GT, 256Mb, PCIe card in a MA69VM motherboard with 3Gb of RAM.
There is a server with two HBA QLA2460, connected via SAN to the SE9980 disk array. RHEL 5.4 (x86_64) is running on the server. In the SAN two zones are set up: HBA1-port1 9980; HBA2 - port2 SE9980. As a result, the server can see:

Question: Why OS sees eight ways instead of two? Why do extra ways have such strange LUN (16384, 32768, etc.)?
With regards to [URL] , is there any steps in requesting, to upstream, a driver to be included in the coming versions of the kernel?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Nvidia graphics card,... actually I manage several workstations that run centos and have an nvidia video card. I also have a personal computer with ubuntu and an nvidia network card.
I would like to do a regular automatic update of those Centos workstations. (With a pilot group to test and then a full roll-out). Until oktober 2009 no major difference in automatic updating ubuntu and centos (apart from the differences between apt and yum):
After a kernel upgrade, the systems can not boot into it's Xorg gui, because the nvidia driver must be rebuild (=not recompiled, because this is partially object code, the driver is not opensource).
But from ubuntu 9.10 onwards, the kernel update process checks for the presence of propietary drivers like those of nvidia and does a rebuild on the reboot, so that the system can succesfully boot into the xorg GUI (and gdm or kdm) My question is: Are ther any plans for Centos to do the same, this would relief me from some upgrade hassle for the Centos workstations that I manage. Or does anyone know about a (good) automagic workaround?
I also the same problem, just that I can not proceed in the same way because I use Ubunto, what should I do to install the MySQL driver on my PC?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to ask some questions about checking which driver loaded for a hardware. Information: I am using Ubuntu and Xubuntu version 9.10.
1. For all types of hardware (including but not limited to network adapter, video card, sound card, USB devices, etc), if the command 'lshw' configuration does not show the loaded driver for a hardware, but the hardware work perfectly, is there any other way to know which driver loaded for that hardware WITHOUT ANY RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, (and for network device, without using "connection information" feature in NetworkManager) ? If yes, how to do it?
2. Does your answer in question 1 will work for external hardware (hardware based on USB, FireWire, etc) and also the other non-pci based hardware? If it will not work, any other ways?
3. For your answer in question 1 above, do I need to install any packages that was not installed by default during Ubuntu installation?
4. For network hardware, "connection information" feature in NetworkManager does show the driver information. But, like stated in question 1, "lshw" command does not show the information about the driver used, then how NetworkManager get information about the driver used for a network hardware?
How to control the driver order be loaded by linux.
For example: I have two ethernet card is A and B. Sometimes A be loaded first sometimes another. How to control A card be load first in every times?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi found this quote: WPA/WPA2 are broken in every module everybody has tried (AFAIK) since Adam's 1.7.1.1 DKMS driver. Downgrade like so: 1) Get the driver from [URL]... 2) Go to terminal, and move the pre-installed driver so it won't get loaded. cd /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/rt2860/ sudo mv rt2860sta.ko rt2860sta.bak. 3) Install rt2860-dkms_1.7.1.1_all.deb. It will also install dependencies needed to compile the driver. If it doesn't retrieve the right packages, make sure "build-essential", "linux-header-generic" and "dkms" is installed. Let it run and it should complete without a problem. 4) Restart. The new driver should work automatically. the deb file gives me an error.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been looking forward to making the switch to Ubuntu for a while, but ever since I did, the road's been pockmarked with errors and hassles. That's, primarily, because I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Let me explain how I installed Ubuntu: All I did to install Ubuntu was download the file from the website and run the program. I didn't burn anything onto a CD or USB; I just clicked on the .exe file and let it run from there. Everything worked great - all I had to do was boot my laptop and choose from either Windows 7 or Ubuntu. Now, I had no idea how to watch videos, so I started to install a lot of stuff from the Synaptic Download Manager. Now, I don't know all of what I downloaded, but it was mainly games. The next thing I know, I get this page when I choose Ubuntu:
Code:
GNU GRUB version 1.97~beta4
[minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completion. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device/file completions.]
sh:grub> _
So I hit TAB and try the easiest command on the list, BOOT. This is what I get when I try boot:
Code:
error: no loaded kernel
So I don't know what I did wrong.
I'm relatively new to Linux, and have broken many more things than I have fixed.. I guess that's the learning process eh? So here's my problem: I've been experimenting with the mount command, and have mounted my local file system (sda1) to a directory (/mnt/test). I was attempting to mount an external hard drive, and sda1 clearly was not the correct drive (I did eventually discover where the external was located, however sda1 remains tied to that directory). I rebooted my system, and now the Grub command prompt loads. When I type "boot" I'm presented with "Error 8: Kernel must be loaded before booting". I'm assuming this is because I mounted my local file system, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any ideas how I could remedy this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get Ubuntu 10.04 running on a PCM-9343 board from Advantech. To do so I followed the instructions in this file from DM&P [URL] I installed a text-only Ubuntu using the alternate installer on a CF card that was connected to my PC. After reboot I downloaded the given kernel and updated the installation on the card, as said in the instructions. Inserting the card into the PCM-9343 gives a working Ubuntu Installation. So far so good.
The only thing not working is networking. The ethernet adapter is not loaded on boot, neither can I up it after logging in using "ifup -a". I found out, that the driver was not loaded during booting, i.e. the module r6040 didn't show up on "lsmod". The module is included in the modified kernel, that I downloaded from the producer's page. So I added it to /etc/modules and rebooted. Now it's loaded, but still no eth0. Ifup -a gives the following messages:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a zyxel dsl (usb) moden, which needs a firmware portion to work, called cxacru-fw.bin.
I have been using this modem using with at least two different slackware distributions, even when the atm drivers were not included in the kernel.
Presently I am using slackware 13.0, with the vmlinuz-huge-smp-2.6.29.6-smp kernel.
I downlowded the 2.6.34 kernel, because I need it for a new webcam, compiled and installed it, and oops! the modem does not work anymore.
I am pretty sure I have configured the kernel correctly; dmesg tells me the modem is recognized by the kernel, as it is with the previous one, but the firmware is not loaded, because the DSL led remains off.
I attach the kernel configuration lines:
I have tried forcing the kernel to load the firmware, using but it didn't work either.

what is happening on my Centos virtual server (ps I'm having a great time re-learning Linux after a large gap and usually try and find out myself but this has me confused) First thing I did was install Tomcat and try and change the port to 80 using iptables -nat and it complained a kernel module was missing. Instead setup Apache to redirect requests so that's now working I then tried to install CSF firewall and the validation perl script returned fatal errors so I assumed OK my virtual server Kernel is restricted and used denyhosts instead which is working great
Here's the confusion.. I later retried the csftest script and it now works including all the iptables and nat stuff that fataled before. I've not rebooted or changed anything except run denyhosts and the postgres daemon + ended a few daemons that I didn't need (eg pickup, tlsmgr, courier, postfix, qmgr, saslauthd) Running lsmod returns nothing and /proc/modules is zero bytes so I'm not able to tell what is loaded? I'm tempted to try and get Tomcat redirecting via iptables and see what happens but if it works I don't like that something seems to have changed.. before I ran it direct as root now I'm SU into root from another login

This is the problem I run lspci -v which checks all drivers on my system and more. It says kernel driver in use is nouveau. Then under that it says kernel modules: nvidia recent, nvidia-96, nouveau, nvidiafb. So what it looks like I have 3-4 drivers for my video card loaded and one, nouveau, being used. I think they conflict with each other.
I'm trying to add drivers other then nouveau, because the mouse freezes with it. At this point I can't seem to get rid of nouveau, I go to terminal and type:
sudo apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
And it says that it's not loaded so I can't dump it. lspci-v says nouveau is the driver being used and trying to dump it. It says it isn't installed. I'm confused. I want to dump nouveau, what should I do? I also go into Synaptic package manager and it isn't listed as being installed.
I've got a problem with my 3G modem [Huawei E122].
It has internal storage and kernel assigns a device [/dev/sdX] to it.
Because of that, every second time my machine will not boot - kernel panic - as my usb hdd gets assigned /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda.
I cannot use LABEL nor UUID in root= kernel parameter, as it is only available when using initrd, and I can't use it - I am using Debian on my router - mips architecture machine.
I have to prevent this from happening, as my router has to start everyday and I have to be sure it works ok. I don't have physical access to restart it when something goes wrong.
I don't use my modem internal storage, there's no SD card inserted. However kernel detects the reader and loads it.
I can not prevent loading od usb drivers since my hdd is on USB as well.
