View 2 RepliesDoes anyone knows good commercial or non-commercial antivirus software that runs on ubuntu 10.04 and that works with the samba v-scan module? I was thinking about Avast, but I'm not sure it works with samba v-scan. Also I'm not sure it is possible to install the avast server edition for linux on ubuntu 10.04.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reinstall everything on my computer (i used 10.10), but every since i did so the ubuntu software center has gone all funny. There are very few results (for example, there are only 21 results in the whole of the games section) and most of the results are paid applications - but not all are. Every result in the games section is a paid app, and when i search for things that used to be there, they aren't any more.

I am very happy with OpenVZ other than the fact that it doesn't support Windows, only Linux.I'd like to have VMWare Server 2.x installed, but it appears that OpenVZ changes the Kernel to, in my case, 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6. The default kernel on my system is 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.i386.If I change grub to load 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.i386, VMWare will work but OpenVZ will not. If I change grub to load 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6, OpenVZ will work, but VMWare will not.If I try to run /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl while in the 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6 kernel, I get an error of:
None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)?Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel?[/usr/ src/ linux/ include]I'm so lost as what to do now..is there anyway I can compile both of the kernels together somehow?
Will Redhat support CentOS under any circumstances? I have heard at my employer that if you setup you system with CentOS and then on down the line you find you need RHEL support that you can purchase a license from Redhat and they will support your CentOS installation. Is that an official policy at Redhat? Unofficial? Or completely untrue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to take dvds that I have bought and put them on my droid phone. I have been using windows XP for this but my windows machine took a dive a few weeks ago and I am struggling getting it going and I am trying to make Linux work. On my dell laptop inspiron 6000 I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and I am loving it so far but I am jot able to get any of my commercial DVD to rip. I know that it has to do with the copyrights but is there a way for me to rip a DVD and then convert it. I have virtualbox on the system and I am not against using another OS. I have tried to install windows 98 and XP (2different disk) and I have not been able to get it. I have tried k9copy, acidrip, DVD::rip, kino and pitivi video editor and I have not been able to get any of them to work.
I have also tried several different DVDs. I am not an expert in any of these software's. I am even willing to by software if I have to. I have also tried to get my wintv pvr usb2 video capture device to work under Ubuntu but I am have tried several times over the past several years to get it work but the walkthrough I have been finding have not workedm. My system does not do what they say its supposed to or I don't understand the walkthroughs. I would be very happy if anyone could any of the above options working. I don't care which one. I would even consider paying some to log into my computer and get it setup if there is a person or company that does that with Ubuntu.
I tried to installed Centos5.4 version on Dell PC intel corei3 inspiron580s and succeeded but found some issues following below
1 Hardware issue for LAN driver ( Broadcomlink(TM)gigabit ethernet)
2 Display Driver not support and also missing Xorg.config file (i.e ., My Screen Starts from center of screen )
3. What is minimum configuration for centos 5.4 ?
I'm just looking for a good mpeg cutter for my Ubuntu laptop. I currently use video redo on my Windows PC but that is also my HTPC and is hooked up to the TV. I would prefer not to do it on the TV because of possible burn in issues and would love to be able to take the mpeg files recorded on the HTPC and cut them on the laptop but haven't found a really great application to do that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am unable to play commercial DVDs on an Ubuntu laptop.I have a fairly new Lenovo 4151 laptop. It came with Windows 7 Premium but I have replaced that with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid. (Actually, a friend helped me do that.) I would like to play commercial DVD's on it.Movie Player says it need a plugin but is unable to find on on the web. "No packages with the requested plugins found." "The requested plugins are: DVD Source"
So I installed VLC Media Player and it won't play the DVD either. It presents me with a host of files, none of which it will play.I would like to stay with 10.04 if possible because I want to give this lap-top to my sister and I would like her to have an LTS distro, so she doesn't have to upgrade for a long time.My supposition is that I need to add a source for additional codecs and install them.I did search these forums (fora?) for codec, but didn't find anything appropriate. I'm not so familiar with this, so I may have missed something.
What is the best commercial C++ compiler on Linux. Best in the sense of runtime performance.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd support Ubuntu and buy the Fluendo add-on from the app store. (I am running a fresh install of 10.10.) Whenever I put in a commercial DVD I get an "an error has occurred" message. How do I go about fixing this? I was under the impression that the ubuntu restricted extras would break fluendo, which is why I did not install them. Although during the install I did tell it to download the extra software there.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Maverick via the Update Manager, and just tried to play a commercial DVD. MPlayer won't play it, though VLC will. I had a heckuva time getting it to display with the correct aspect ratio and screen position, though.
I have all the requisites installed that I found through my research, but I couldn't find anything that seemed to relate exactly to my problem (under 10.10).
I recently installed Lubuntu 11.04 on my aunt's old computer (Sony PCV-LX800); I had it running Ubuntu for a few years but the latest releases are too much for it to bear. Anyway, a while back I installed a DVD-ROM drive in her computer in order to play DVD movies. It plays CDs and non-commercial DVDs fine, but with the commercial DVDs, it doesn't work 80% of the time. The 20% it does work, everything is fine.
I've installed all the necessary packages with every new release. Currently using the following: libdvdcss, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 (via the Medibuntu repository). Here's some info from this system while trying to play the DVD LotR: Return of the King Extended Edition:
Code:
gloria@gloria-PCV-LX800-U:~$ mplayer dvd://1
MPlayer 1.0rc4-4.5.2 (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer Team

I want to protect samba Server running on Red hat 8.0(2.4.18-14 kernel). (i686 Architecture)
can any one prefer me 3 good commercial anti virus that supports
Redhat 8.0.
I purchased a special collection boxed Superman set for my 10 year old daughter in May for her birthday and recently some second hand Zumba DVD's. My daughter is quite hard on DVD's. So I have as asked her to wait whilst I have them copied.
I will be using the Zumba regularly and know they will suffer so want use copies and save the originals.
I have done some reading and I think I have everything installed correctly.
I tried K9copy, but it immediately closed. I then tried K3b and noticed I needed 99GB of space. (I wonder if that is why K9copy closed?) The only thing I have that big is my backup external drive.
So I connected it up. I only had about 44 GB of space on it. I ticked for half the tracks which needed less space. So now there was enough space. I then clicked on rip DVD. It has been doing it continuously for 2 nights and is up to 24%.
So at this rate it will take a week to copy half a DVD to my drive and then I have to burn it to a DVD. This can't be right, can it?
I am running OpenSuse 11.3
I'm asked to create a network tool in C and a GUI API in linux platform by my company. I'm aware of the GPL & GLPL licenses , but not clear whether I can create a proprietary commercial software with the tools & libraries available in Linux: My tool will be written in C and will be using the some network library functions in the Linux and some header files .(Their license is GPL) , also the GUI i'm planning to develop is using GTK and Glade / Anjuta, (GTK is based on GLPL license) , I will be using GCC compiler for C programs,
Please let me know whether it is possible to create a closed source-commercial software using the above tools/libraries, if not possible is there any workaround is there for creating commerical tools in linux Can I make some part of my code closed and some parts open? Also please let me know which is the best GUI building programming language/IDE that can be used with C programs in linux

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a couple of commercial NAS boxes and I'm wondering if they (ReadyNas duo, DLink DNS-323) or any other NAS is suitable for having their RAIDed disks moved to a software-based NAS. To be specific, I'm a big fan of the (largely) Debian-based Ubuntu. Can the aforementioned NAS drives be migrated to Ubuntu (e.g. using the mdadm Linux command)?
Secondly, is there any commercial NAS that can be migrated over? Incidentally, here is a link to somebody who succeeded in a migration:URL...My specific scenario I'd like to prepare for, is the eventual (sudden) death of one of the NAS motherboards.
What is the long term support plan for CentOS 5.2 (or indeed 5.3)? We are interested in changing our machines away from Scientific Linux 4.5, because support is ending for that OS within 12 months. So we need to make sure that a new OS choice is going to have support for a number of years.
