I spend all day, trying to make bluetooth working with my phone Nokia 2600. First, i try'it with bluez-utils 3.7, and later with 3.9, but i no luck. So, what i have. I use hcitool to scan for my device, and find'it. Next, i connect to my phone with success. Then i try pairing with my phone, using "auth", but here i got error: HCI authentication request failed: Input/output error

I have USB-Bluetooth adapter and Centos 5.5, i plugged in adapter to USB, reboot. then i get this with /sbin/lsusb code...
also, when im searching for devices with phone, i can find my computer (my Bluetooth adapter), but when i press to connect from phone, it says Connection Failed...
thats kind of weird, because overall process seems to be set up ok, and i can find my PC without problems... any ideas why would connection fail then?
If I am running a script, let's say a install script. Is there a way to make Su repeat authentication rather then just returning "Authentication failed" and continuing the script?

I have an NTFS partition on my disk and whenever i want to browse files on that partition I'm required to enter my password. my problem is that my music folder is located on that partition, and as a result, whenever I open rhythmbox, it cant access the files on that partition and begins to remove them from the library. in order to prevent this i must browse to that partition manually and enter my password upon request, prior to opening rhythmbox.
on a side note - shouldn't the spell checker on the Ubuntu forums recognize "Ubuntu" as a legit word ?
I am using Kubuntu 10.04, but I am posting here because the Kubuntu forums seems to be user agnostic. I just couldn't get past the verificaiton process. This should be a general networking problem that Ubuntu users can answer. On my home network, I have a Windows machine whose shared folders I can access from one machine running Ubuntu 9.04. I've had to do no network configuration on Ubuntu, it just works out of the box. On Windows I do not have a password that I use to login. Ubuntu does not ask for it either.
But on Kubuntu, when I browse the network samba shares, I can see my Windows share, open it, navigate it, but every time I cd into another level in the share or click on a file (say a music file to play), the authentication window pops up asking for a user name and password. What login information should I use here? I tried my Windows user name and a blank password,

I'm taking over support on some linux machines at my work. I came across a CentOS 5.4 system that my users can't log into anymore. When I try to login as root at the console, I get an "Authentication Failed" error message. If I ssh, then the connection terminates. When I type the password incorrectly, I get the usual message about entering the wrong password, so I know my passwords are correct. These are all local accounts, not NIS or anything.
What I've done so far: I booted into rescue mode and changed the root password. No dice. I booted into single user mode and tried updated pam. Again, no dice.
I have bluetoothd, hidd, and bluez-simple-agent running. I click my mouse, and bluez-simple-agent never asks to authenticate or for a PIN. Before, bluez was working for me. It broke when I paired my mouse to a LiveCD session of Ubuntu Lucid Lynx.using bluez 4.71

Basically I want to change the resolution on my computer as the desktop is partially lost off of the screen. The needed resolution is not available so I am attempting to add a new resolution. I have used the [URL] for information on how to do this. I recently installed two PC with debian lenny (kernel 2.6.26). One is called serveur-debian1 and the second one serveur-debian2. I have installed gnome,samba, mysql5, apache2, php5, and Virtualbox,bridge-tools on them. On serveur-debian2, i installed an other virtual debian lenny with apache2,mysql5,php5,nagios and centreon on it to view my network. I remember having installed a soft to access nntp on serveur-debian2 in order to test nagios.
Since a few days, i have problem to access to my servers. rom my windows 7 client, i try to ping serveur-debian1. Response is OK but not for all resquets Always from the same computer, i try to ping serveur-debian2. Response is OK but not for all again.
When i launch a ping on serveur-debian1 and serveur debian2 at the same time i have:
ping 1 to 10: serveur-debian1: response OK
serveur-debian2: no response
ping 11to 14: serveur-debian1: no response
serveur-debian2: response OK
ping 15 to 25: serveur-debian1: respone OK
serveur-debian2: @ip serveur-debian1 network unreachable (there's no error, it shows me the ip of serveur-debian1)
If i switch on the debian virtual server on the serveur-debian2, and i ping it at the same time, the response is OK for all resquests. The problem is very strange. I can't have a correct connection and when i launch a request from a software which access the mysql server, the requests failed ...

I just made a fresh installation of Ubuntu Karmic, but I can't set up my screen resolution correctly. My monitor resolution (1680 x 1050) is not listed in 'Display Preferences' or in my card's proprietary software (ATI Catalyst). The maximum resolution I can select is 1440 x 900.xrandr detects a maximum resolution of 1440 x 1440 and displays the same list of screen resolutions as 'Display Preferences'.
But when I enter the line:

I am trying to backup a client called greetings.com, but when I do an amcheck on the server, I get:

I've been using Ubuntu since 6.04, not a linux guru by any means but can usually get myself out of trouble.
So, the issue... I installed 8.04 on my mother's laptop some time back as she was having trouble keeping Win 2000 running (she has a low spec no-name generic laptop btw). I live in Autsralia and she in England, i thought i could better support her if she was running Ubuntu... All has been well with 8.04 but with the new LTS release (10.04) i thought i'd talk her through the upgrade... Did the online upgrade via Update Manager, all seemed to go OK but when she went to log on after restart she got an error saying 'authentication failed' even though we are 100% sure we have the user name and password correct... Tried to do a ctrl+alt+F1 to by pass the GUI log on but couldn't get the terminal session to open up, just got a black screen - no command prompt.
So... thought OK re-install... downloaded the ISO, burned and sent her a CD in the post... talked her through the re-install, all seemed to go well (again) - BUT, after restart, couldn't log in "authentication failed" again...
So, remember i'm trying to talk a novice through all this... any thoughts!?!
If i can get her to log in i can then support her via some kind of remote sesion or other screen share... and it wont cost me a small fortune in international calls!!! But if i can't get a log in, i'm dead in the water!?

I installed Blueman & paired my headset successfully but I get this error message when I connect my headset, "Failed to initialize pulseaudio bluetooth module. Bluetooth audio over pulseaudio will not work". When I go to Pulse Audio Volume Control, it's not showing in my hardware list.
I wanted to install it on a secondary computer in my house for web browsing and little-to-nothing more.

I just installed openSUSE. The installation seemed to go well. After installation, everything loaded up and I was using the OS with no problems.
I restarted the computer to change my boot sequence in the BIOS. Then I got to the openSUSE login screen. I was presented with three options:
1. my username - When I enter in the password I specified during the OS installation it says "Authentication failure"
2. Automatic Login - just says "Permission denied"
3. Other... - Nothing seems to work here
