I have 2 Centos 5.2 install that cant be snmp queried from another machine and I am unsure of what to check next.
To make sure it was not an incorrect iptables rule i temporarily turned off iptabes with the same results. I have checked the hosts file and it is correct on both machines.
our 9.x servers are running perfect. Just setup 5 new webservers, running 10.04LTS. Have SNMPD running, installed and the same config for all the servers I just copied over, by config, I mean one line, that's it. So the servers have the following /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf file rocommunity public
That's it. Now the only difference is looking at the ps on the local box's, a working one shows;
snmp 1096 0.0 0.0 50480 3756 ? S Jul02 9:21 /usr/sbin/snmpd -Lsd -Lf /dev/null -u snmp -I -smux -p /var/run/snmpd.pid
where this one shows

It almost seems something firewall is blocking, apparmor is not running, is there something else out of the box 10.04 has that I am just completly brain farting on?

While I made some mistakes here and there.I was really stumbled upon a question that was formulated something like "SNMP for managing Linux machines remotely".I can't remember the exact definition. I'm not sure what it was about.I was under impression that SNMP it is a carrier protocol for commands like "ping" and "traceroute". I was trying to read about it online but it is way too broad and technical, they're loosing me on very first page. I suspect there's some kind of product or technology that uses SNMP in some way to handle Linux, I'm not sure.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe server is booting up properly and the system is running. When browsing web sites on the sever and they seem to run fine. But when you make requests to it, it seems to take a long time to process stuff. Such as large mysql request. Even to the point it freezes. It seems that if you make a request of some sort it just over loads. I have checked the logs and the most I can get from it that one of my wiki sites that seem to be getting nailed with spam bots trying to getting which is one of the databaes that where repaired could be slowing it down A LOT. Now I did find a couple databases that where marked as crashed and they have been repaired. I am not really sure what is causes the errors since the HD space is fine, ram is fine, internet connection is fine...So I am not familiar with diagnoses linux as much as I am with a windows pc. I am not real shell friendly. I am not good with the basic troubleshooting commands to try and identify the source of the problem to correct it. Could anyone point me the way...
Thanks in advance and I apologize for being a ra-tard on these. I should know this stuff more than I do running a server like this. It was created in 2006 and has been problem free since. Another thing, mass emailing isnt working either. It may be mysqld related. Sorry for the fragments and such. It also seems the SMTP isn't working properly as well suddenly.

One of our devices running CentOS 5--an 8e6 Technologies Enterprise Reporter network appliance--has started displaying the following three messages repeatedly, though not continuously.Best as I can tell, hard drive four may be experiencing sector errors.(The messages do differ slightly at times. For example, 16384 may instead read 49152 or 12285, and the two strings of colon-separated hexadecimal digits may also vary in content.)Other than these messages, the device seems to be running fine. Its internal diagnostics indicate no problems.I will, of course, call 8e6 Techonologies tech support. But, prior to that, I'd like to do some troubleshooting on my own. What other troubleshooting techniques may I employ to gather more information?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on an old Pentium 4 desktop PC I have, which is not being used for much other than being a MTA, and I want to migrate this functionality onto the CentOS platform for stability (Windows is a perpetual nightmare. I partitioned a spare 20GB to experiment with, and I want to install CentOS into here to play around with first so I can move my files around between Windows and CentOS, until I'm happy all of the stuff is gone, then I can scrub the Windows partition and claim the space for CentOS.
So, I've downloaded and burned the DVD and tried to install. I start the install with no args from the main install menu, and the process goes through some probing and then comes up with the "Welcome to CentOS" menu. I go through this, and then it tries to start X Server. It fails, and falls back to text mode. I get the "Welcome to CentOS" screen again, and then proceed through it. I set my keyboard layout to UK, then this message comes up at the bottom of the screen:
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for localhost:6001: Temporary failure in name resolution"
then on the next line: "Cannot open display :1" If I force the install to text, by typing "linux text" at the first menu, I get about the same way through, but the install just hangs doing nothing, and no disc access to the install disc.
In a nutshell, my situation is that I need snmpgetnext. My understanding is that this should be installed with net-snmp (net-snmp.x86_64 specifically); this is not occuring. I cannot use it as a command, and I have tried quite a few searches (whereis, find / -iname "snmpgetnext", "snmpget*" | grep next, "*next*" | grep snmp, and a host of similar oddities). Can I find snmpgetnext in a yum repository, preferably an official one?
More specifically, I'm using a software package that requires CentOS with kernel 2.6.18-53.somethingorother. This is a separate issue that has been brought up with the vendor. Generally this just means I install CentOS 5.1 and don't do a full upgrade. we are monitoring with Nagios. The Nagios check_snmp plugin won't compile without a valid path to snmpgetnext, which I can't get to install. This is severly hampering my ability to monitor the server.

OK, so I'll just go ahead and install the package, right?

I am trying to monitor a Centos 5.3 box using SNMP and I am having a lot of trouble getting the data that i need from it. Everytime I try to get information from the UCD-SNMP MIB it returns "End of MIB". It is my understanding that UCD-SNMP is a standard package when Net-SNMP is installed and should always be there. Then why can't I access it? I have tried removing the reinstalling Net-SNMP, but that hasn't worked. My server is update date on all it's patches as well. It is quite old hardware, but I don't believe that should affect SNMP from being gathered. Iptables is down, and I cant' even get it from the local machine.

- httpd 2.2.3-43
- php-mysql 5.1.6-27
- mysql 5.0.77-4
and all these packages are running ok.
My question is how do i connect from Centos to another MSSQL server using PHP? I had read several article but cannot find the best way to achieve this because most of the instruction seems to be quite complicated. I found somewhere in this forum that all it need just this simple command: "yum --enablerepo=extras install php-mssql freetds". While others article said that i need to install "FreeTDS" and some ODBC driver. I'm a little bit curious since most of that article are using an older version of Centos and PHP.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI managed to install Centos x86 for the first time, together with VncServer, SSH access, mySQL and Apache. Everything worked greater until I logged in remotely to the server from my Windows 7 machine using RealVnc. I manage to connect successfully and able to use the GUI remotely. However, when I press logout from the menu, the screen gets stuck on the funky blue and white curly background. It does not close automatically.
If I close it using the 'X' button and reconnect, I get in to same stuck screen. My only workaround is to login with Putty and type 'service vncserver restart'. Then I am able to connect again. But same thing happens when I do a logout.
Does anyone know or recommend some software or a script to remotely power on a PC from standby to on, or even better from completely off?
I guess the completely OFF to ON is much more complicated - would probably require an extra piece of hardware(?)
I'm not terribly new to Linux, but I am new to the forums, so hear me out! I am in the process of creating an electronic mapwall for our meteorology program, and have designed the computing system from scratch. I have two Linux Boxes, each with capabilities for 6 attached monitors...a total of 12 displays driven from two machines. My intention is to have one machine be the master...it has a touchpanel control. The inputs to the touchpanel will then trigger events for the both the master and the slave machine to display. Each of them has a specific IP address (DNS entry), and are not on a subnet.
Now...is there a way to remotely login to the slave machine and have it display on it's OWN monitors? The code is Java and which works on the master machine to animate directories of .gifs for each of the master's attached monitors. I will most likely have Java execute shell commands for the remote login (ssh), but I believe the answer lies somewhere in the X-configuration. Do I have the machines in an adverse configuration (creation of a subnet would be better)? Lots of questions...lots of desire...few answers!
Problem : centos 5.3 hangs while remotely copying data onto this server.
I have A centos 5.3 x86 Version installed on Xeon Quad core , running on 8 GB DDR2 RAM, RAID 1 confgured on SATA drives. this was old installation copy and It has many more things running on it.Therfore, I can't just reinstall it.
I have setup SAMBA PDC + ldap on it. I encounter that system hangs when I copy data into this server from LAN computers.
My troubleshooting steps :
1. I have checked for network issue , My network works fine when I transfer data between other LAN compuers.
2. Even I have tried confguring seprate LAN....
3. I thought their might be some problem with my SAMBA configuration, therefore I did data transfer from sftp .

I just installed Webmin on this CentOS 5.5 client and would like to know if it's possible to remotely administer the Squid server. The one I'm using for webmin is different from the one where Squid proxy is running.

I installed CentOS 5.2 and then run yum update. I configured this server as LDAP/Samba primary domain controller. LDAP seems to be OK and for testing I am able to create users with:smbldap-tools useradd -am usernameI can ssh into the server as root and also as a Linux user which was locally created in the server. But ssh into the server as LDAP user fails (from a Fedora 11 machine) with "Permission denied, please try again", prompting again for password.Some data:
