I have an application running on a centOS machine that needs to access a database on a CentOS server. I granted access to all users with a certain user name and password.i opened up port 3306 as well with the following command: /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp --destination-port 3306 -j ACCEPTbut whenever i try to connect from my machine i get an error:ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '172.16.102.129' (113)I am using mysql version 5.0.77 on centOS 5.5.

I'm new to linux, and setting up the mysql database server.
Here are my situation:
OS: CentOS 6
mysql version: 5.5
I tried to use MySQL Administrator to connect to my database on the host 192.168.1.120
and my computer is under the same network with ip: 192.168.1.105
But it shows the error msg: Could not connect to MySQL instance at 192.168.1.120
Error: Can't connect to MySQL server on '192.168.1.120'(61)(code 2003)
On the server side I've tried:

I have set up two identical websites and want them to access the same mysql database. I've entered the username/password/db name in the website database.inc file. However, one database works fine and displays correctly, the other just gives a blank page. I've tested apache and it can display a different site (one that does not access any db). So is there a configuration that i'm missing. Do i have identify the two different websites that access the db?

I've setup a CentOS apache web server, and loaded a site onto it. The site previously was functioning under windows xp (before I "stepped in") and wamp. What I did was copy the site in /var/www, reconfigure the httpd.conf (DocumentRoot /var/www/site, etc). Although when I try to open the webpage I get this error: Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:The MySQL adapter "mysql" is not available.

I just installed mysql and need to move the databases to a new location.I say 'no problem' I shutdown mysql (service mysqld stop) I configure my.cnf to point to the new location, which in my case is: /mnt/data/mysql. I know not very original naming. I do the old chown -R mysql:mysql /mnt/datal/mysql AND I copy all the files over (cp -R /var/lib/mysql /mnt/cgsvol/mysql) chmod 777 /mnt/data/mysql I ensure the chown worked (ls -a -l) and the files are there from the old directory. I can't load the daemon again. I check the log (/var/log/mysqld.log) and it can't write any test file to that directory.

I have installed on a remote server phpmyadmin 3.3.1 and mysql 5.1.46 on a centos 5.4 OS.
Any newly created user with phamyadmin is unable to login both from mysql command line (from localhost) and phpmyadmin (localhost and remotely).
No prob when the user is created with mysql command line (from localhost). All of the users created with phpmyadmin, are not "visible" recognized from the show user command via the mysql command line. The setting I used when I create any user was the same as the ones with the mysql command line creation.
The error message I get when accessing from mysql command line (from localhost) is the following: "Access denied for user ... @localhost (using password: yes)"

I have installed Mysql in Ubuntu 9, for the use of roundcube database.After installing iam getting the error like this
* Stopping MySQL database server mysqld [ OK ]
* Starting MySQL database server mysqld [ OK ]
* Checking for corrupt, not cleanly closed and upgrade needing tables.
So because of this in the roundcube configuration its giving the error message that MYSQL is not installed. So Kindly give me a idea how to solve this.

I'm having problems connecting to the mysql database on my system. I first noticed this when I was trying to set up the program anymeal. I subsequently tried using MySQL Administrator (mysql-admin), but had no luck. It gives my the following feedback:

The why behind this is a little long winded so let me get to the technical question. I have a 16 GB SD card in my netbook as additional storage to the 16 GB SSD drive. The SD card is formatted fat32 (by a utility from sdcard.org which is supposed to and does make the card read and write faster than if it was formatted by the OS). The card mounts when I login to the netbook. The entry from mtab shows

If I look at the permissions on SD16 I find

sudo chmod 777 SD16 does not change the permissions.
The problem is I need to connect to the machine with a different user (due to a security hole in gnome-commander). As the card is formatted fat I cannot assign group permissions to it and my second user cannot access it.
I had previously had the card formatted as ext3 and it was so slow as to be unusable. It needs to be formatted fat. I am stumped.

I'm looking for a way to put a MySQL database in a server's memory. The disks aren't fast enough to keep up with the usage and I don't feel like going for a splitted web&db server yet because of the costs.
Because this involves risks (unless there's a way to read from the memory and write to the memory AND disks?), so I'd prefer that the DB gets copied automatically every hour or so to the local disks.

We purchased a new database system at work last October, ditching the old system because of a lack of support from the vendor. This is a retail Point of Sale and Backoffice database system. I am not sure what system the new one runs on, but the system we replaced was a Firebird data base. The reason I am posting is because we are now in need of the information contained in the old database which was not completely imported into the new system. Unfortunately, we parted company with the old vendor under extremely hostile conditions, and they are not a source of help for this problem, nor are the new vendors.
Basically the problem is this: The database in on a Windows XP system and I found a copy of SQL Manager Lite 2008 on the system, which after quite a bit of studying, I figured out how to extract the database into a removable file. I have this file (178MB) on a USB stick in a file called Backoffice.fbd. I can get into this database with MySQL. All I want to be able to do get into the database and create tab deliminated spreadsheet files for each of the database sections (Customers, Repairs, Sales History, stock files, etc.) Is it possible to do this with Ubuntu and MySQL and if so, can an expert suggest one or two things to get me started.

One server is a dedicated MySQL server. After upgrading that one to Ubuntu 10.04 (from an ancient Suse 9.2), both servers are running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.I have another server that I use to administer the database server via phpMyAdmin. However since the upgrade it is not able to connect. I get an error #1130 Cannot log in to the MySQL server. The same happens if I try to connect remotely from the command line with: mysql -u root -h 129.79.137.121 -pI'm not sure if this is an iptables/ports problem or a configuration problem on the MySQL end or something else entirely.I've searched and tried the suggestions I've found in various places but none seems to have fixed it.

My existing MySQL database is running on 11.1. I plan to do a fresh install of 11.3 in order to utilize the trimming feature for SSD drives. How should I install my MySQL database to the new version? Do I perform a backup then restore to the new install? Or can I just save the mysql db files to a cd and somehow attach it to the new install?

I recently installed a portable WAMP server on my usb stick. Really nice, I can do some php programming on my girlfriend's windows7 laptop without installing anything on it.I also have a LAMP environnement on my linux computer.When I plug my usb stick on my linux box, I can easily mount -o bind /usbstick/wwwfolder ~/public_html and work on my php script from there.
But my question is, is there a way I could get the database from my usb stick's MySql server, to run on my linux MySql server? So I can modify data base schema from my Linux workstation, doing some INSERTS in some tables, and then plub my usb stick on the laptop and get my up-to-date database running from the portable environnement?I don't know where / how MySql stores its databases. Basically, I want to "mount" the database from the usb stick in my Linux' installed MySql server, without extracting and importing the data, so there is just ONE database used for BOTH environnement.

I posted a thread regarding a CD Base Application. I can run the program, but for some reason It does not seem to work properly.
For some reason in exits the program back to the command prompt. I am using the code from Linux programming 4th edition which you can get it from here...and in the folder ch08/app you will find all you need to create the CD database application.
