Yum command is not working on my system today!
when i write any commands using yum, such as yum check-update or
yum install some package it shows the following code...
shall add something to my repository?
I'm working in a little company and 2 weeks ago one of our server had a hard disk failure (yes it was a seagate 11) and after passed two days without sleep trying to recover everything (and we did it!!) we took the decision now to use in some of our server a raid sw, so if one HD fail we can continue with our system without losing nothing. Yes I know normally you have to take all the precautions before so this things never happen, but you know I thing if it never arrives you, you always think than you're lucky and it's never going to happen to you but one day you discover reality.
So now this server is working with a Centos and the default HD partitions one boot partition and the LVM. I'm reading everything I'm finding about raid sw and lvm but I don't find if it's possible to create now with the system working a raid sw without having to reinstall all the system. Is it possible to do it ? If not what are my options to make a system backup before reinstalling everything?
I have a problem with the system backup. I need to create a system image using the command "tar", but my server has physical disks with LVM and I am executing "linux rescue" for recovering the linux image. After restoring the image on the new server reports "kernel panic", this is caused because the new server where I restored the image doesn't have LVM disks.

bash: setsebool: command not found
I need to enter /usr/sbin/setsebool to get it working
The same is with some other commands:
# service httpd restart
bash: service: command not found
And so on. I know, that I need to add path somewhere, as I did it before on FreeBSD. But I don't know where?
basically in the child process iam just calling the ptrace(PTRACE_TRACEME, 0, NULL, NULL) system call but if add this stsyem call rest of the code not working properly. i found the reason basically what happening is when we have ptrace() system call its printing the same variable 3 times i.e its not executing it 3 times but just it is printing 3 times .iam just wondering how it could be possible.

I have some trouble with my hp workstation xw4400 with an ATI FireGL 3300 and the X-Server. There was no problem with the graphical install routine and the graphical boot works fine. But when the system changes into the login-screen, then it results in a black screen and a more or less frozen system.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using Red Hat 7.3 forever and decided it was time for a change. I went to Fedora 10 but it was really buggy. CentOS 5.2 is VERY stable.Here is my problem.The server is command line only -- I tend to hate GUI"S.I setup Samba no problem disabling the ports needed through the firewall and that was straightforward.CUPS is a nightmare for me since CentOS locks down the cupsd.conf and then the firewall does its thing. I allowed port 631 through the firewall but then got lost on the cupsd.conf. It's been too long and the old redhat one won't work with CentOS (not surprising since it's a VERY old system) straight-forward CUPS tutorial for a command line interface. I just need it to be:

after looking around a bit i thought it would be better to get the sources from kernel.org directly and try to compile that one, but then i found it to have the exact same error. would be very nice if someone could direct me to a solution for this. i have the bwbar already installed on another server which runs CENTOS 4 , i installed it there AGES ago , so i dont really remember what was my method back then.
the CENTOS 5 server dose not like me installing bwbar on it for some reason. maybe its bwbar's fault?, im no coder so i hope anyone that got a clue could check this out for me.
I installed the latest version of Centos 5.4.It came with Xen version 3.0.2 I think.I am running it on a Dell R510. It supports hardware virtualization.I was able to virtualize Windows XP and Windows 2003 server on it by selecting the install from DVD option.I was having problems trying to get a PCI DekTek card seen by the virtualized Windows domains so I tried to upgrade XEN to 3.4.2.I used the repos available from Gitmo and it went easy.
The only problem is now that when I try to create a "New virtual host" it only allows me to use HTTP, FTP option and not the iso or DVD option. They are greyed out. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and might know a work around for the Xen 3.4.2 problem. Perhaps a better location for the kernel or something.
I have been setup a PDC with samba+ldap, is working, smbldap-tools working, I can create users, add machines, etc, really cool.Now I have seen MDS from Mandriva, cool tool to handle my network, I try to setup MDS, but looks like something is not good. I have follow the instructions from their site, I access the web page, but went I input my username + password my browser wait for ever and never receive any answer. It suppose that u have input the LDAP username and password from the admin. I had run the mmc-agent daemon as stand alone to see what is doing, but I see any issue:

I'm currently messing with the value on memberofgroupattr. The only thing that seems to do anything is with it set the way above, in the error log I get:
So if I'm understanding, it's trying to mod the user entry and the attribute isn't allowed.
Setting the memberofgroupattr to anything else gets me nothing noticeable. ldapsearch isn't showing memberof:

I'm using ldapadmin from a Windows box to assign/delete people from groups. What I'm a little confused on is the difference between a group and a groupofuniquenames. I also see a difference when using the web gui (directory server gateway) in users. The gateway creates and entry while in ldapadmin I'm creating users. Not sure how that factors but the memberofgroupattr relies on what object class it is and I'm obviously trying the wrong things or something is busted elsewhere.
The error log isn't showing any other errors.

I'm no expert on DHCP. My problem is that i have a CentOS 5.5 server on which i want to install a DHCP server. I have two NICs where eth0 has access to the internet and where eth1 should act as an DHCP server.
I have installed dhcpd and this is how my dhcpd.conf file looks like.

When i start dhcpd on eth1 i get no error messages but when i connect any devices to eth1 they don't get any IP. I cant find anything in any logs about devices trying to get an IP address. I dont have any firewall rules in iptables.
I have a weird performance issue with a centos 5 running a nfs server and a rh8 client. I think the fact that it is rh8 client should be downplayed. It is just that with rh8 client the performance degradation seems more clear. See test details below OS in server is Centos 5 x86_64 kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5
1Gb connection between machines File to test over NFS is a 1GB file. First of all I wanted to measure how the network alone performs while using NFS. So in the server side I run a "cat" command on the 1GB file to /dev/null. Please note that the disk read speed is about 98MBs. At this point the file system has the 1GB file cached in memory. In the client side a "cat" on the same file gives me a speed of about 113MBs. It seems then that the bottleneck in this instance is the network and it is very close to nominal speed. So the network performance is really good. (BTW I know that the server got that file from cache because a vmstat or iostat shows no disk activity.)
The second test is reading from disk with no caching involve. In the server I flushed the 1GB file from the memory. For instance by reading another 5GB file and I repeat the same thing as above in the client (a cat on the 1GB file). Now, the server has to go to disk.(vmstat or iostat shows the disk activity). However the performance, now, is about 20MBs, I was expecting something closer so 90MBs. (since the reading speed in the server in the first test showed 98MBs).
This second test was repeated for ext2, ext3, xfs with no significant differences. A similar test using a RH8 NFS server and client gets me close to 60MBs for a 1GB file not cache by the file system in the serverSince network speeds and disk read speeds are not the bottlenecks ... what or where is the limiting factor then?

I installed vsftpd server in one of my servers using "yum install vsftpd" command. NFS server is running in the other server and mounted as "/data" in this FTP server. root in FTP server has also root authority in NFS server. All the files and sub-folders under "/data" in FTP server have 755 or 766 mode. Even I modified vsftpd setting to allow root login.
When I login as root to FTP server with FileZilla client, I can see all the file list in root home directory and move to /data directory. I can download any file in a local HDD but I can not download any file in /data directory.

User can connect this using key file via SSH. without authentication user can't connect this system via SSH. Now I am trying to copy the file from Server B through SCP command. But it is not working. While I am trying use this command from Server B I am getting below error "ssh: connect to host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port 22: Connection timed out lost connection". xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is Server A. SSH is enabled in both server A,B.

I am using vicidialnow 1.2 VERSION: 2.0.4-122 and BUILD: 81011-0855 (CEntos Based Dialer). In all the way, it is working fine. I want to give the access of command /usr/sbin/mtr to a Normal System USer, which is not working according to my wish. I have make the entry in as sudo or make the soft link of /usr/sbin/mtr to /bin. But all in vain. And i am not in the condition to give the root access to the user.

View 19 Replies View Relatedi have server with rhel3 ES. in folder "/lib64/tls" there is one file named libc.so.6 which is softlink of libc-2.3.2.so. i just copied libc-2.3.4.so from rhel4 AS server to rhel3 server in the same location and override the softlink libc.so.6 as a softlink of libc-2.3.4.so. now no any command is working in this server i.e.(cp,vi,rm mv ls etc.). it is also not opening any terminal and nothing command is working.

I set up a L2TP/IPsec VPN server using xl2tpd and racoon on CentOS 5.5.

I have some problem getting masquerade works, but no luck. I created a cronjob that do a backup which will notify me by email. I was able to received the email with from "root@domain.mydomain.com" I want to change this to root@mydomain.com, I tried do the masquerade and it does not work.
