CentOS 5 Server :: Mysql (mysqld) Not Loading Config File?
Apr 30, 2009
We have been struggling with a problem with the mysql-server package. This might be in the wrong category because our problems are with it on x86_64. Where the problem happens variables that should populate from the my.cnf don't, on other servers, they do, the my.cnf files are identical except for the server-id
The problem occurs on some of our machines but not others. All are using the mysql-server-5.0.45-7.el5.x86_64 The ones that work, when you connect with a client respond with server version 5.0.45-log source distribution The ones that don't work respond with 5.0.45 source distribution
It's unclear what the differences are between the two source versions and how we wind up with two different versions. One thing that might be involved, the mysql package is installed with both the i386 and x86_64

After the upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, all was well. But after the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, I lost the MySQL server. Now, I recall during the upgrade, I was asked if I wanted to keep the existing my.cnf file or replace it with a newer one. I did as suggested and kept the original as I had edited it before. The same question was asked with a couple other config files. I kept the original in each case. After the first step, I checked the server was running and the websites were up, all was well. After the update to 9.10, when I checked the server, I get the following error:
Code: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists! Can anyone point me in the right direction to getting this resolved?

I'm the lead Dev of GnackTrack and we're having issues with running MySQL on the LiveDVD.Once installed everything works fine, mysql can be connected to but when using the liveDVD we get the following error:
Code:
root@root:~# mysql
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
Contents of /etc/mysql/my.cf point to /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock but because this is a liveDVD the actual file is located in:
/rofs/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

I have installed Mysql in Ubuntu 9, for the use of roundcube database.After installing iam getting the error like this
* Stopping MySQL database server mysqld [ OK ]
* Starting MySQL database server mysqld [ OK ]
* Checking for corrupt, not cleanly closed and upgrade needing tables.
So because of this in the roundcube configuration its giving the error message that MYSQL is not installed. So Kindly give me a idea how to solve this.

I'm trying to change some configurations but when I change it from the default options in main.cf, it doesn't actually update the running configuration. I've even restarted the server all together but it still doesn't update it.In main.cf, here is the configuration I've added:
bounce_template_file = /etc/postfix/bounce.cf
bounce_queue_lifetime = 4h
maximal_queue_lifetime = 4h
delay_warning_time = 1h

I am running CentOS 5.2 with php5.3 and Mysql. I am running a CRM program called Sugar on the server and I am having a problem where the webpages don't always load correctly. I am not sure if this is something on the program itself or if there is a problem some or other setting on the webserver. I am accessing the server over a local network so I don't think it is connection issues. The server has a static IP.

I managed to successfully install LAMP on my VPS and proceeded to install Wordpress only to run into an odd error.When I click on index.php, it starts to load but nothing happens.
The details:
LAMP = CentOS5.5, Apache 2.2.18(compiled from source), MySQL 5.1.57(compiled from source), PHP 5.3.6(from source too) My site: ottomatic.org as you can see in the index of files index.php is what I'm trying to load and if you check phpinfo.php you can see that PHP was installed correctly too. I added an .htaccess file with 644 permissions to my web root directory and that only seemed to produce an error, this is what I put in the .htaccess:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /

I've created a mysql user and he can connect Joomla to mysqld when everyone has full permissions to the mysql homedir but I know this is bad from a security standpoint. If I set mysql user as the only one with permissions then I can't connect. I know Joomla support is not very help from past experience, wish I could dump it for something else but it does work great once it is configured so I need to keep it around, can anyone make a guess as to what permissions I need to have set on mysql's home dir so that joomla can still connect yet I am more secure than now?

me@mycomputer~#ps axw |grep mysql ( no results, no mysql!!! ) me@mycomputer~#stop mysql [ret] no returns either!!! This upstart [start|stop] thing seems a total failure for mysql!!!

I was playing with the mysql my.cnf file yesterday, trying to move my database files to my dropbox folder so I can use the database on my other machine. All I changed was the datadir setting to point to my dropbox folder. I also moved my mysql data files there.
When I tried to restart mysql and test the new location it said my mysqld.sock was missing. I searched and searched the web and my filing system for it but I have no idea what's happened to it?? I have even tried changing the datadir path back and reinstalling mysql but that doesn't seem to work either.

socket = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
user=mysql

I am using CentOS5 and installed the MySQL for server during the installation. I can set up and use MySQL databases. But I cannot make it startup everytime the server restarts. And quite a lot of methods need this folder "support-files/mysql.server", while my set up cannot find this. I am wondering if my installation of the MySQL for server is complete or not.

For security reasons I need to ensure all of my users screensaver is set to come on after 10 minutes of inactivity. My thought was to find the screensaver config file, modify a setting in the file to 10 minutes and change ownership of the file to be root (so the user can't undo my changes either in the file or via the gui). However, I can't find the screensaver config file to do this. I'm running Centos 5.2. Anyone know where I can find the screensaver config file?

This is my first post, I hope I'm the the right place. I installed mysql mysql-server php-mysql perl-DBD-mysql libdbi-dbd-mysql via "yum install -y" on a server running CentOS 5.3 X86_64 The install completes successful with no errors, but once I start mysqld via "chkconfig --level 35 mysqld on" ; "service mysqld start" There are no errors in /var/log/mysqld.log netstat shows mysqld listening on 3306 and localhost is in /etc/hosts

I did a yum update this morning that included a dnsmasq update. Subsequently, for an unrelated reason, I restarted dnsmasq, but it failed because /etc/dnsmasq.d didn't exist. It looks like my /etc/dnsmasq.conf file now includes "conf-dir=/etc/dnsmasq.d" at the end. Since dnsmasq was starting and I didn't remove dnsmasq.d, I assume this line was added by the update. Commenting the line resolves the issue.
An alternative hypothesis, given that I don't really know what the state of /etc/dnsmasq.conf and /etc/dnsmasq.d/ was before the update, might be that the directory did exist, but was removed by the update. I find this the least likely of my 2 stated hypotheses. (There are other hypotheses, but I think they are even less likely). Am I correct is concluding the conf-dir line was added by the update? If so, shouldn't the updated RPM create the directory during install?
