i wanted to learn linux, so i just installed Centos on a thinkpad x200. my wireless will not work. when i try to activate it i get this error:

how to make intel 3945 to work on RHEL5 ? Apparently that hardware is not officially supported by Red Hat so they do not provide drivers. what happens on my PC is after login I do not have the wireless card led is off and when I try to start the wireless connection I get

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's been a while since ive run any Linux OS, but after reading about Osuse, i decided to partition my drive and check it out. Just downloaded and installed OpenSUSE. I have access to internet via my hard wired lan port, but wireless has me confused. Dell D600.I have allowed all updates to install, and added my wireless connection using KDE Control module. When i hit the scan button the scan box appears but nothing is picked up. My router is linksys, and its wide open (no encryption, nor hidden).

I have a desktop PC with CentOS 5 installed, and a wireless card that's working well via NetworkManager.
How would I configure the wireless card statically, e. g. by editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0?
This would be something like :
DEVICE=wlan0
BOOTPROTO=static
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=192.168.1.252
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ESSID=my_essid
CHANNEL=3
But I don't know how to define the WEP key here.
I have a Sprint U760 air card that apparently works under Linux. Sprint has a guide: "Wireless Mobile Broadband Setup Guide for Linux OS" that I am using to setup the air card. When I go through the procedure in the manual for "Setting Up PPP Using KPPP" the last task is to query the modem to see if Linux recognizes it. When I do the query I get a response "unable to open modem". I have tried going back through the PPP setup but still get the same response.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased the Linksys WMP45G wireless card for my desktop (as my router is too far for ethernet cable). I can't get it to work. The NetworkManager icon doesn't appear in the upper-right corner, despite being up-and-running. Here is some output:

I just recently installed CentOS 5.3 and to make a long story short I found the entry for my wireless card under the network settings but when attempting to activate the card the system locks up. I have to reboot at that point as nothing responds (keyboard, mouse, etc..).
Running the command /sbin/lspci -v reveals the following about the wireless card:

I'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?

Ive finally got the wireless PCI card running using Ifdown then Ifup from a console, ( using ndiswrapper) I need this to happen while booting up so the wireless is automatically started so I can do away with this routine everytime. The PC is for a friend who is not too savvy on PC's. what script I'd need to run to get this to work? I know that if there was ever any change to kernel it would have to be reset.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
My digital card stop Centos 5.2 from start , when i remove it feom my compyetr it start , how i can install it ans stop centos from recognize it (ignore it ) i have winxp for it

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lenovo thinkpad, T61 with Intel 4965AGN wireless card. It is a N card, it works under N mode in windwos, but not in Ubuntu (10.10). I installed ndiswrapper and got the windows xp drivers for this card. the issue is that i got an error when installing the drivers and since then I cannot use wireless.
The error i got is: Code: Module could not be loaded. Error was: FATAL: Could not read '/lib/modules/2.6.35-24-generic/kernel/ubuntu/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko': No such file or director I unistalled the driver, but now under network connections no wireless connections appear, nothing. I cannot use wirless anymore.
I just started setting up a linux box in the office...I have some experience with ssh commands but not setting up a linux system and stuff.The box is connected to our network but I have no clue how to make windows & osx talk with it. How can I go by doing that and also setting up an apache server to be able to connect through network. Right now I have apache/linux/mysql running it works when i go to localhost, but I would also like to let all the computers in office to access it. I would guess that will deal with virtual host which I know how to setup. I just need to setup an IP.

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.
Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.
have a dell Inspiron 1501 with ubuntu 10.0.4 I want to rename my wireless card from eth1 to wlan0 as I use conkyrc and it will not read my wireless strength or my ssid cuz it thinks it's a ethernet card and not wireless card. I know this for a fact because peppermint os my wireless card was wlan0 and it worked just fine.

I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. performed the following steps .....
1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
2.# cd package
3.# ./configure
4.# make
5.# make install
I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about
"Linux kernel source directory [/usr/src/2.6.18-92.el5PAE-i386]: Configure"
I just pressed the enter button and it went to the next message which is
"Linux source tree 'Configure' is incomplete or missing!" Configuration failed

2/ I saw I had problems with yum: when I launch the "add/remove programs" button in the menu, if the "c5-media" item is checked (and only this one) and the DVD of centOS is in the drive, then I have this message : "cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: c5-media. Please verify its path and try again" I specify I modified the /var/run/yum.pid file (removed the only number which was here)
the main issue for me is the yum failure, because it could be needed for the wifi problem. one thing after the other! the installation is totally new (except that I modified the yum.pid file).
