Ubuntu Networking :: Network Doesn't Auto-connect At Startup

Jan 5, 2010

I have a Broadcom 4312 wireless chip. I have use the STA drivers that Ubuntu recommends. I can connect quite easily just by clicking on the icon, so this is more than a niggle than a problem.

My network isn't protected as we live in the middle of nowhere (quite literally) and network theft isn't a problem. We also run a self-catering cottage, and let guests have free access to our network anyway, so it is easier for guests to access our network without me having to give them all the key. When I did use wpa, it would start itself up with the laptop, so I kind of know that this might be the cause. Is there any way I can fix it without encrypting the network?

The word "network" doesn't appear anywhere in the dmesg output, so I can't even tell what hardware my machine has, or what drivers are missing. How do I tackle this?

I have a server with 3 interfaces. Only one of them comes up after boot tho (the one with the cable plugged in). When I start dhclient the others show up in ifconfig... Could it be just cause there is no cable plugged in them? Or then how do i bring them up automatically without having to issue dhclient myself after boot?

Fedora Networking :: Nmbd Doesn't Want To Start At System Startup

Jan 25, 2010

I It does not start when the system boots. The smbd daemon is present and there are no suspicious messages in the system log, dmesg or the samba logs. The nmb service *is* enabled at all of the relevant run levels and does start if I issue the command "service nmb start" as root after I log in. This particular box's networking is 802.11n via a usb port and is under the control of the network manager. I have another fedora 12 box with an internal intel 5100 802.11n card and it does not have this problem.

Ubuntu Networking :: WiFi With Wpa2 Encryption Doesn't Connect On Startup

Dec 27, 2010

I have xbmc, a media center shell that runs on ubuntu. I am trying to set up a laptop to run it and be a full time media center. so far it works great, I installed xbmc live, but the only issue is I have a wep2 protected wireless router and the wifi does not connect automatically.

I have it set up and am using wpa_supplicant once those commands are run the wifi works great.I am a novice in linux in general, and can not seem to get this to work on startup, can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I haven't been able to find the xbmc start up script if one exists, I figured adding those lines to it might work, does this sound like a reasonable approach? if anyone knows where that is and how it is defined to be launched on start-up i would appreciate it(I guess this is getting into the general Linux knowledge but still good info)

CentOS 5 Networking :: OpenVPN Doesn't Work On CentOS 5.3 With Windows Client?

Jun 27, 2009

This will be a little long (having read Phil's 'how to ask questions' FAQ). I'm trying to get OpenVPN working between my CentOS server and some Windoze laptops running XP. There seems to be plenty of sample
config files available, but to date, none of them have worked for me. Pulling out my trusty Wireshark, I've found some clues,

BACKGROUND:
My local subnet (NAT'ed by my gateway router) is 192.168.52.x. My router has been configured with a conduit (port-forward) for port 1194 (the standard OpenVPN port), which points towards my CentOS server. The CentOS server is .52.112, and the supplicant is .52.110. I have tried the lient both inside and outside my local subnet, with no difference in events or outcomes.

Ubuntu Networking :: /etc/network/interfaces Not Booting On Startup?

Sep 23, 2010

When I boot into Ubuntu with the Xfce desktop then proceed to terminal to check my IP it is always some random IP as provided via DHCP by the router. If I then go to the cmdline and type sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart then the wifi correctly connects to the router to the one static network address that I have specifically provided for it - as stated in my interfaces file. Why is this not happening on startup?

Ubuntu Networking :: Nm-applet Doesn't Start On Ubuntu Startup / Get It To Work?

May 23, 2010

I am not sure why, but my wireless networking icon on the top right of the panel doesn't show up any more during startup. Previously during startup, the applet would show up and then after a while connected to my wireless network seamlessly.

The only thing I did before and after it stopped working was to enable auto login. I cannot disable auto-login through the GUI and according to postinings in the forums no one knows how to do it through the command line interface.

In the 'Startup Applications' menu it is checked for startup with the command line saying "nm-applet --sm-disable". What can I do to have the network manager icon automatically startup when I turn on Ubuntu? Right now I get it to work by typing "sudo nm-applet" in the terminal window and then pasting my wireless encryption key.

Everytime I try to get information from the UCD-SNMP MIB it returns "End of MIB". It is my understanding that UCD-SNMP is a standard package when Net-SNMP is installed and should always be there. Then why can't I access it? I have tried removing the reinstalling Net-SNMP, but that hasn't worked. My server is update date on all it's patches as well. It is quite old hardware, but I don't believe that should affect SNMP from being gathered. Iptables is down, and I cant' even get it from the local machine.

Fedora Networking :: 3G Dongle Doesn't Appear In Network Manager?

Jan 20, 2009

I have run Fedora 9 and 10 on my Dell Inspiron 640m for about 6 months now and generally experience very few issues with it. Specifically I've been running Fedora 10 KDE 64bit since it was launched. Up until I had to reload it a couple of weeks ago my Vodafone Huawei E172 3G dongle worked perfectly with Network Manager. Since the reload the dongle is detected by the OS (lsusb lists it correctly, etc) but nothing I do will make it appear in Network Manager.

I've tried manually configuring a GSM connection then plugging it in, but no joy. I've also tried using it in my Acer Aspire One which runs Fedora 10 XFCE and it work, but when I try it in another Dell Laptop running Fedora 10 KDE 64 bit it doesn't. I'm assuming that a recent update must have caused some issue as it has definitely worked in both Dell laptops in the past. As mentioned I've reloaded recently but the other laptop hasn't been.

I'm unsure where to go from here. I haven't been able to get Vodafone's beta drivers working under F10 (although I did under F9) and can't find any posts on this issue. The version of Network Manager that I'm running is NetworkManager-0.7.0-1.git20090102.fc10.src.rpm, which was released shortly before I reloaded. Chances are I just didn't try my dongle between the update coming out and the reload, so didn't notice the problem before hand.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Network Sometimes Doesn't Work

Feb 14, 2011

what is the command to restart the network services? ive forgotten i think it uses -hup switch though. about 1 in 20 boots on my desktop ubuntu system results in the system insisting its no longer on a network yet has a fully functioning network card. a reboot always fixes the issue but that doesnt seem like a long term solution to me. If I ping a neighbouring system I get nothing. (sent packet count increases in ifconfig) If I ping from a neighbouring system back to my desktop I get nothing (no change in packet count) I can bring down and back up the network interface with no results. A sniffer shows the system definitely isnt sending anything out Everything worked previous boot and will work again after a reboot.
