I have a ESXi 4.1 build 433742 server with a CentOS 5.4 virtual machine.I installed VMware Tools.I added a vmxnet3 network card on virtual machine for 10GbpsBut my problem, the card doesn't UP ! the resultat of my commands :

2/ I saw I had problems with yum: when I launch the "add/remove programs" button in the menu, if the "c5-media" item is checked (and only this one) and the DVD of centOS is in the drive, then I have this message : "cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: c5-media. Please verify its path and try again" I specify I modified the /var/run/yum.pid file (removed the only number which was here)
the main issue for me is the yum failure, because it could be needed for the wifi problem. one thing after the other! the installation is totally new (except that I modified the yum.pid file).
I've installed from the CD the Centos version 5.5. When I try to connect to Internet I can't because I received some errors. I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. When I change to "eth0 (Intel EtherExpress/100 driver)...sometimes become "Active" an other times said that the MAC address is different or to check the cable because can't find the IP. What can I do?

It always worked fine in Ubuntu by default (plug and play). Is there some setting I need to make to get this working?Even BT-3 (which is quite old) recognizes the RT-73.

I installed CentOS 5.3 on my Shuttle SS-31T with SiS 190 network adapter. While booting the message "Bringing up eth 0 [ OK ]" appears. After booting it isn't possible to surf to an internet location (p.a. www.google.com). It's also impossible to ping other machines in the network. After typing ifconfig everything seems to be ok.

I have a Centos 5 server on my LAN for testing the websites that i develop.It worked perfectly until this morning , after cold start -up, it seems that my network card is not enabled . My suspect was the driver was 2.6.35.1 kernel based i may need to update my kernel, but i have other laptop having 2.6.32-21 kernel and this card works fine.
I just installed x64 Fedora, and as the title says, NM fails to detect my WiFi card. It's an Encore ENLWI-N with a RaLink RT2800 chipset. The card does show up when I run lspci, although iwconfig yields nothing.Not sure if this helps, but when Ias running Karmic Koala, Ubuntu detected the card immediately and required no configuration

So here's the thing: I have a mobile broadband pcmcia card that worked just well on jaunty, but as I installed karmic it doesn't work, coz it mounts the card's storage but doesn't recognize the hardware. The help says I need the package 'udev-extras', but there's no such package for karmic and the one for jaunty doesn't work with karmic.

However if I use an ubuntu desktop live CD on the same machine, I can connect witouth any problem with NetworkManager 0.8.
I'm setting up an LTSP server using Ubuntu 10.4 64bit, and PXE connecting with thin clients using Atheros cards. The ltsp environment is 32bit.
Unfortunately I get an error message with "No interfaces found! Aborting..." and a kernel panic early during PXE boot.
After an enormous amount of investigation, I've narrowed it down to (probably) being the fact that the ltsp chroot environment doesn't have the correct driver for my network card (I believe it's atl1c). The correct driver IS available in Ubuntu, though, as I can successfully boot the thin client from both 64bit and 32bit live CDs and bring up the network interface.

I have Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11 Mbps PCMCIA wifi card. It worked perfectly in Fedora 10, but after updating to Fedora 11 it stopped finding any wireless networks. The updating were done with automatic updating utility. The card works perfectly in Windows, I tested it today.
My laptop is HP nx6110 if that matters.
Here is the situation:
When I plug-out the card, the Network Manager disables wireless networking as it should. When I plug-in the card, wireless networking is enabled, so the system seems to recognize the card in some way.
If I try to connect to "Hidden wireless network" (because there isn't any wireless networks listed in the Network Manager) system tries to connect for a couple of minutes, and then asks wireless settings again. Orinoco card's lights DOESN'T blink normally when connecting to the network (one light should blink rapidly and one should light continuously, but both are blinking rarely or doesn't blink at all).
In System->Administration->Network in tab Hardware (hope those names are correct, I use Finnish version of Fedora...) is:

Here is what I have done to get the problem solved: In System->Administration->Network I have tried to connect to the wireless network manually (disabling the Network Manager). I can't get the connection. It gives me random error messages, sometimes "Check the cable" or something like that, sometimes just timeouts IP determination.
I have tried to connect different wireless networks, no connection. All tested networks worked with another computer.
No matter if I reboot or service network restart or plug-out plug-in the card... the problem still appears.

I want to connect my modem straight to my fedora 13 box, using it as a firewall, and I want to use my wireless card to set up an ad-hoc to give internet to the windows computers in my house. My router has been messing up and I am trying to create a quick fix until I can solve the problem.
My eth0 has internet connectivity but when I use the brctl command to try to create a bridge it doesn't let me add my wireless card, wlan0, and also I lose internet while my eth0 is in a bridge. I am fairly new to Linux.
I have loded centos 5 on vertual machine, my host machine is windows xp and has two NIC cards working perfectly well
1) realtek RTL 8139 family PCI fast eathernet NIC
2) realtek 8169/8110 family gigabite ethernet NIC ( ONBOARD)

But if I launch administration / hardware / system devices, the last line is "Ralink 802.11 bg WLAN"... When I try to add in the window "network configuration" (from above) some new stuff, I specifying the kind of hardware (wireless) and when I have to enter the name of the card I don't see my card. On other OSes, I used ndiswrapper, but I wasn't able to install it on CentOS (dependencies required and it's hard with only a USB key to install the stuff...) How to see if the card is recognized, if I have to use ndiswrapper and so on. I have an internal PCI network card also, maybe it is this card which is recognized.

Using a Damn Small Linux live CD I am able to connect just fine and was able to see that that 'hp100' was being used as the netcard driver. Does anyone use this card in a system of theirs, and, if so, how easy was it to set up? It's on an Asus M4A785T-M/CSM motherboard that I'm looking to purchase (Newegg link here for reference). I've seen a lot of Realtek cards have zero problems in Linux before, but I know each chipset is different.
