i bought a vps last week. I wanna if it is possible that the only connection on my computer will be to the vps(i wont be able to connect directly to the internet for example) and if i want to connect to the internet it will be through the vps . i wanna use ssh and especially iptables(and not the proxy of the browser)

I've installed from the CD the Centos version 5.5. When I try to connect to Internet I can't because I received some errors. I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. When I change to "eth0 (Intel EtherExpress/100 driver)...sometimes become "Active" an other times said that the MAC address is different or to check the cable because can't find the IP. What can I do?

I am usually the last one to post on forums, but I can't for the life of me get FreeNX working on my CentOS box. I have also read many posts, many how-to's, many troubleshooting guides, and absolutely nothing is working for me. It's Crazy. First of all, I've installed FreeNX before, with little to no trouble. I am not completely green at the linux command line, but I am still no expert. I'm hoping one of you guru's out there can lend me a bit of a hand.
Here goes, I've installed FreeNX onto my CentOS 5.4 dedicated box, using the how-to [URL].. I've done everything, letter by letter, on the how-to. (Installed CentOS, configured sshd_config, added users in AllowUsers, created nx user, imported keys.. etc) At this point, I could not connect to my box, with the error message:

I have a server in my house with webmin and virtualmin installed et i made a mistake.Ive created a virual server and ive change the lan ip adresse. 192.168.2.30 ive change it for 192.168.2.31.Now of course nothing work. Im not able to connect via ssh via another computer.So, on the server i write ifconfig and it tell me the adresse is 127.0.0.1 and no more adresse like 192.168.x.x.

I just moved into a new apartment and now connect via DHCP. Everything seems fine network-wise, except that when I'm at work I can't connect to the home box. (CentOS 5.3 x86_64) One thing I noticed is that I can't really determine my "true" IP address. What I mean is that it looks like my IP is 192.168.0.190, but when I use linuxdcpp, and enter a hub, I'm told my IP addr is actually something like 71.192.163.206. Here's some info:

I changed /etc/sysconfig/network to include GATEWAY=192.168.1.1 From the internet I have a modem-192.168.2.1, a telecom voip box-192.168.15.1, and then my router 192.168.1.1 I'm able to ping machines attached to the router but nothing beyond that. I tried to get the results for ifconfig via putty on this machine but it says command not found. I can get it when I log in at the box in question though.
I'm trying to set up a server for an NPO who connects to the Internet through an internal proxy (Websense). I can't access the Internet unless through the proxy.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI usually used freebsd. Now I decided to try linux and selected CentOS 5.5. I installed it on my notebook Acer Aspire 5930G (I tried both i386 and x86_64 versions) and I have problems with cable networking. I selected static network configuration during install. Internet access is working via NAT on freebsd server.
I can ping anything in my LAN, I can ping any host in internet, nslookup works fine, but nothing else isn't working. I can't wget even in my LAN, can't connect to FTP server in my LAN etc. The same with internet hosts. Iptables turned off, iptables -l shows that all chains are in ACCEPT. SElinux turned off. NAT for accessing internet works fine - when I reboot to windows 7 with same network config internet is working. I guess this could be problem with driver for my NIC - Marvell Yukon 88E8071 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet. But I can't change it on notebook :)
I successfully installed openvpn and networkmanager openvpn plugin. Then I successfully added a PPTP vpn connection by networkmanager vpn tab which name is "vpn1". But now I don't know how to connect to this PPTP vpn connection. I tried bellow command but no luck.

I have 2 server behind the netgear router on my network . win2k3 and CentOS development server, I have port forarded 80 to win2k3 server which i can access over the internet and is accessable. However I can SSH CentOS machine and portforwarded 8080 and 82 for web access, I can't access via any of the port, browsers says UNABLE TO CONNECT.. there is no firewall in CentOS machine.

I am able to ping the Windows machines using their IP address, but not by their name. What do I need to do to be able to see the Windows machines and also to connect to shared folders on these machines? So far I have tried starting SMB (via System > Administration > Server Settings > Services). I have also tried changing my smb workgroup to "WORKGROUP" (the default was mygroup which did not match my Windows machines.
