CentOS 5 Server :: Centos 5.3 Server Can Not Connect To Internet?
May 13, 2009During the install of my Centos server 5.3 i cam in trouble after setting the Static IP address, Gateway and DNS i cannot connect to the internet my own network is visable. When i start ifconfig my network is running.

May 17, 2010I'm using virtual network (NAT network) for my domU.When I change dom0's firewall setup, the domU will fail to connect to Internet anymore.So far, the only way to bring the network back is reboot dom0 !I try to restart service network and libvirtd on dom0 ... it doesn't work.How can I bring the domU network back without reboot dom0 ?

Apr 8, 2010I have a home network, with an OpenWrt router operating successfully as DHCP server (using DNSMasq). I'm planning to install LinuxMCE on my main fileserver and in order for this to properly detect devices around the home it requires that it is the DHCP server. That would be fine except that I sometimes power down the fileserver (eg. when my in-laws sleep in the spare room where the server lives) and that would leave me with no DHCP which creates problems (when my in-laws want to get their laptop connected to the internet).
One answer is to get new in-laws which would be OK except that I'm still pretty keen on my wife. Alternatively is there any way to set up a fallback DHCP server ie. the router would check if there's a functioning DHCP server on the network (ie. the fileserver) and if it gets no response it will serve DHCP addresses itself.
Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Internet Via Proxy Server With Apt-get
May 14, 2010I am unable to connect to the Internet in lucid via a proxy server using apt-get or synaptic. Opera & firefox connects to the internet fine with the proxy setting.
I have tried the following solutions:
1) set proxy setting using systems|preferences|network proxy
2) editing ~/.bashrc & /etc/.bashrc
3) creating a /etc/apt/apt.conf file.
4) putting the proxy setting in synaptic
For the proxy setting I have used the both the verbose name as well as the ip address. There is no logon requirements for the proxy server. Either formats work in the browsers.
Networking :: Home Network - Connects To The Internet To Also Be Able To Connect To The Slackware Server
Aug 9, 2010I have one pc on which I have installed slackware and samba (fixed IP, mask 255.255.255.0) I have another PC (also XP) which also has fixed IP running XP, and I can connect that to the slackware server easily My third PC connects to the internet and gets its IP address from the Cisco router(?) that provides the IP and mask on boot up.
I tried changing the IP and Mask on the slackware server to match the internet PC (which uses a mask 255.255.254.0) but the PC mask and IP changed on the internet PC I want the PC that connects to the internet to also be able to connect to the slackware server, but I see no need for the slackware server to also connect to the internet - I will mainly use it as a file server When I worked for another company I think the IT department talked about having 2 network cards in the PC that connects to the internet

Jan 17, 2009I've installed centos 5 on an old computer with success and it works great.I can access the web server hosted on the centos server from any computer on the wireless and wired local network. I can also use ssh (putty) and nx client from any computer on the local network (wired and wireless) to access the centos server.On the wireless router I've configured a port forwarding to the wireless network interface on the centos server. I can access the centos server from the outside (internet) through this port forwarding both through http and ssh or nx client.MY problem is that I can't access the centos server from the internet through the wired network interface. Any attempt to view a web page or login with ssh or the nx client will timeout.

Aug 29, 2010I usually used freebsd. Now I decided to try linux and selected CentOS 5.5. I installed it on my notebook Acer Aspire 5930G (I tried both i386 and x86_64 versions) and I have problems with cable networking. I selected static network configuration during install. Internet access is working via NAT on freebsd server.
I can ping anything in my LAN, I can ping any host in internet, nslookup works fine, but nothing else isn't working. I can't wget even in my LAN, can't connect to FTP server in my LAN etc. The same with internet hosts. Iptables turned off, iptables -l shows that all chains are in ACCEPT. SElinux turned off. NAT for accessing internet works fine - when I reboot to windows 7 with same network config internet is working. I guess this could be problem with driver for my NIC - Marvell Yukon 88E8071 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet. But I can't change it on notebook :)

However I can SSH CentOS machine and portforwarded 8080 and 82 for web access, I can't access via any of the port, browsers says UNABLE TO CONNECT.. there is no firewall in CentOS machine.

Feb 1, 2010On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So
Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.

Apr 6, 2011I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. Nov 12, 2009I've recently set up a local development webserver using Karmic Koala. I downloaded and installed the server version of Kubuntu and have the web server working.
The problem is that for some reason, I'm no longer able to connect to the internet. I can connect to my router, and other machines in my network can VNC into the server.
I'm using an wired connection to the router and have the server set up on an internal IP of 192.168.0.100. I used to be able to connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a load of packages etc before it stopped working.
The last thing I remember doing before it stopped working was that I installed Samba so I could share files with the other machines on the network (two Macs running Leopard and a WinXP laptop).
I got the share working - I copied a load of files to the server via the share, rebooted, and for some reason now I can't connect to the net (and other machines can't see the Samba share either.) However I can still VNC into the server.
