i finished installing CentOS 5 and managed to connect to the Internet. My Network Interface Card (NIC) is "Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet" and it is not in the device list. anybody can tells me what i should do now to be connected to the Internet?

Though I followed steps as per above links but I my connection via network manager does not establishes. Which as per above links should have come if things went correctly. In Windows same modem works correctly.

I've installed from the CD the Centos version 5.5. When I try to connect to Internet I can't because I received some errors. I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. When I change to "eth0 (Intel EtherExpress/100 driver)...sometimes become "Active" an other times said that the MAC address is different or to check the cable because can't find the IP. What can I do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:

I'm using ubuntu karmic and I'm not able to connect to the internet with my reliance netconnect data card using network manager. Other distros like fedora, opensuse n sabayon connected easily with nm. Ubuntu detects the data card flawlessly but just doesnt connect.This problem has been persistent even in previous ubuntu versions, n I used to use wvdial. But downloading wvdial on some other comp with every dependency is really cumbersome.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop that has a d-link DWL-520 wireless card, which was working under Windoze. Today I installed Centos 5.4 on the system , which went cleanly. I then used Network Configuration to set up the wireless card. I specified to use DHCP, set the SSID and authentication password. When I tried to activate the card I get these error messages
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported. Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Determining IP information for wlan0.
The hardware manager seems to have correctly identified the card and chipset, (Intersil Prism 2.5) and installed driver hostap_pci which came with the distro. This web site seems to suggest that this is the correct driver: [URL] searching forums I've found a few references to these errors, but they were from several years ago, and for different distros and cards. I did find a reference to using Network Manager to configure the card instead of Network Configuration. I started the NM service and configured a connection using it instead, but still no luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHeres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.
This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.

I've turned off the power to both the cable modem and the computer. I then turned on the power to the cable modem and then the computer. I found a solution from Intel website saying that the problem might be: "firmware in wrong location or wrong firmware version". So I proceeded to download the firmware and placed it in /lib/firmware. Also I tried to use menuconfig to enable loading firmware via hot-plug, but I think I have done something wrong when I was configuring the hotplug and firmware.
Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So

I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I've recently set up a local development webserver using Karmic Koala. I downloaded and installed the server version of Kubuntu and have the web server working.
The problem is that for some reason, I'm no longer able to connect to the internet. I can connect to my router, and other machines in my network can VNC into the server.
I'm using an wired connection to the router and have the server set up on an internal IP of 192.168.0.100. I used to be able to connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a load of packages etc before it stopped working.
The last thing I remember doing before it stopped working was that I installed Samba so I could share files with the other machines on the network (two Macs running Leopard and a WinXP laptop).
I got the share working - I copied a load of files to the server via the share, rebooted, and for some reason now I can't connect to the net (and other machines can't see the Samba share either.) However I can still VNC into the server.
