i have installed Linux i.e ubuntu 10.04 on my PC in which i have installed pptp client and able to connect it successfully but problem is that it unable to browse internet. in windows it works fine.

I've searched the forums (250 thread limit) for a fix on this, but all the questions seem unanswered or unrelated. My situation is this: I'm running Ubuntu x64 10.10 'Maverick'. I have a cablemodem connection for my Internet access. I have home network running on DD-WRT with the dreadful Linksys WRT54G series router.
My DD-WRT router is 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0.
My Linux box is 192.168.1.61, subnet 255.255.255.0.
I have a VyprVPN connection set up successfully on Linux. Mostly everything works great, speed's fine, latency is what I expect it to be. Except... I also run an SSH server to remotely admin the box at port 22, an Apache server running over SSL at port 7001, and a Transmission web client at port 7002 (only secured by basic HTTP realms auth). All of these things worked before I got the VPN working, I'm of course using NAT at the DD-WRT router.
The endresult I am looking for, is to have the security and protection of the VPN (even if it's only perceived) for everything I do on this machine -- EXCEPT on Apache, the Transmission web panel, and the SSH server, which I want to access from the outside world. I have no firewalls running or configured, not even iptables, not even the SPI firewall on DD-WRT. All connections to the aforementioned services from the outside world timeout coming in to the Linux box. They all work from inside my home network (182.168.1.0/24). I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.
I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.
Invoking pppd from the console, I can see that authentication succeeds, but then some negotiation goes wrong and the server terminates the connection. Here's the output from pppd, with the more sensitive stuff removed:

From today, I am unable browse internet using Fedora 10. Before this, I was using net in F10 with no problem, F10 was automatically configuring for net settings. But now I cannot connect to internet in F10, but I can connect to internet using windows xp. I have ADSL modem which automatically connects to internet when it is switched on. When I press any site name in Firefox it won't display any thing (in status it shows done).
And even following command not works.

I'm connecting to a network via a Belkin F7D1101. The adapter appears to be working fine, as I can see various wireless networks available and I am able to connect to my personal wireless network. The problem is that even though I am connected and have a valid IP, I am unable to browse the Internet. I can't even ping the router!
I initially thought it may be an issue with WPA, but I have installed wpa-supplicant and as a means of testing, I turned off WPA on the router, and the issue still stands.

im centos 5.3 At first, I used pptp-1.7.2-3.rhel5.i386.rpm from [URL]. But it didn't appear any process of install without a warning about the key problem, and I can't use rpm -e to uninstall it, I just uninstall it from xwindow. On LAN and WLAN IPv6 is working fine but I want to avoid when using a VPN all IPv6 connection are bypassing the VPN which compromises the VPN to a certain extent ..

Now I want setup idle time (inactive) in pptp linux client so that if the pptp tunnel is inactive say for example 5 minutes it will be automatically disconnected. how can do that, is there any built in feature on pptp client?

In other distrows I could connect to created pptp vpn connection simply by clicking on network-manager-applet and selecting the connection, but there is no network-manager-applet in Centos. Is there any way to connect to the vpn connection I created or I should go to do it by manually editing config files?

But then I dont have access to Internet from my Windows machine. Authentication is successful and I can see GRE traffic to my PPTP interface on my Ubuntu, but I can't reach any host (including Internet) after my Ubuntu machine. I suspect this is a routing or NATing issue.

All my PCs at home run in the 192.168.0.0/24 net, the PPTP Server has local IP192.168.0.5 and remote IP 192.168.0.80-99. The router to the internet is at 192.168.0.1, and the IP of eth0 on the machine where the pptpd runs is 192.168.0.4. I want to be able to connect to the internet trough that VPN and access my local LAN servers (which works fine so far). I can ping internet and local IPs successfully, but can not access them with a browser, or connect to them in any other way. I have 'accepted' all in/output and forwards.
I am running a Squid proxy on the same machine, and if I do:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -j REDIRECT -i ppp0 -s 192.168.0.0/24 -p tcp --dport 80 --to-port 3128
I can access the internet through Squid, but of course Jabber/ICQ etc. Won't work then because it just refers port 80. But I want the PPTP Clients to connect to the internet directly, if I don't use that rule it's not possible to load any pages. But pinging works all the time. DNS is also working fine, but I can't even access webpages via IP directly. How can I allow the PPTP IPs 192.168.0.80-99 to get direct access to the Internet with Iptables?
I have started a newly started a VPN-service with some friends and are offering both OpenVPN and PPTP-vpn.The OpenVPN works perfectly, but we have some problem with the PPTP.It is possible to connect to the VPN, but once connected you can't get any type of access to the outside world ( the interner ).I've googled (Ok, not I, but the tech-guy has) and havn't found any solution so therefor we try here.We are running Debian 5.0 on a XEN VPS.On the machines we've tested OpenVPN works like a charm.

So I can browse internet pages, install packages thru Add/Remove Software GUI, but I cant do it in the command line, using yum install, for example. Then trying to figure it out, I saw that it cant reach the package mirrors. It isnt a DNS problem, I set the /etc/resolv.conf correctly, as the host command works correclty. I can ping the local pcs on the network too. Firewall is disabled. Below some simple tests:

I have installed ubuntu a few times in the past but if I've had to get messy with the command line I bailed. So given that I wanted to set up a home server/media center, I tried win server, but given research had told me that it is easier to accomplish all the features I wanted with Linux I decided the time had come to really see what I'd been missing out on. So what I am looking to accomplish is a full lamp stack, xbmc, samba, mail server, VMWare server, rtorrent, ftp, an probably a few others I have forgot because I can't get to my check list right now. Settled on ubuntu 10.10, had installed it a couple of times while it was still in beta, just to get a feel for it and get everything working so that when it was released I could do a fresh install knowing how to configure everything.
So on Sunday the time came. Everything was going fine until last night, I was installing roundtable webmail and all I came to download something and FireFox can't display any web pages, postfix can't deliver mail. The server can ping local machines but not google.com or another internet site, I can ssh into it an get a remote desktop session via various methods, both either over the local network, or internet. The website is getting served both locally or internet. I just cant seem to make any outbound connections to the outside world.
I am trying to connect to a PPTP VPN at work, and I cannot accomplish that. Both server and client are using Ubuntu 10.10.

GW: 62.2.2.1 (cisco router)
i want to configure my ppptp server to allow users access internet with their own public ips of class 62.2.3.0 62.2.4.0 62.2.5.0
every time i configure my server all users can get thier IPs but they only go out with my server IP same as NAT not routing.
can you show me the proper configuration to make my users connect with public IP and have internet access. use specific DNS ( i did this but some users can not brows by DNS)

I'm trying to establish a connection to my ISP which uses PPTP protocol and a VPN server. The deivce I got from my ISP is a modem, not a router. The problem is my computer is unable to communicate with the ISP VPN server.

I'm using VPNC to connect to a remote cisco network, however I cannot browse the internet after the tunnel establishes. I know this is a DNS issue, as I can ping external address by IP (e.g. google). I can also communicate through the VPN tunnel without trouble.
/etc/resolv.conf gets updated by the VPNC with the remote networks DNS Servers, but I still cannot connect to the internet. I even manually tried to add my local nameserver to the /etc/resolv.conf file, without luck.
Also, just as a side note, I can only establish the tunnel via the command line "vpnc" command. I'm using Fedora 13 with KDE, but knetworkmanager / networkmanager will not establish the tunnel, however I haven't really dug very deep as to why. I've just setup some vpnc config files for loading the various connections manually, as needed.
I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.10 on a HP DV2500 laptop. Everything installed as expected but I am having some wireless issues I was hoping somebody could assist me with. I am able to connect to my network via wireless with no issues. However, when I attempt to browse the internet it will not connect to any pages. Obviously when I connect it via CAT 5 all works as expected. Any ideas on how to solve my wireless issues?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI followed (or at least tried to follow) tutorials on doing this. I installed network-manager-pptp and tried to configure network manager to connect to a VPN. In the settings when I select MPPE with 128-bit encryption, after I've selected it and applied it, I check the settings and it's invariably unchecked. I tried using KVpnc after getting frustrated with network manager, and I can't seem to get that working either. I've been trying to search for info on this, and I can't seem to find anything on why I can't select MPPE with 128-bit encryption. That seems like it might be why I'm unable to connect to the VPN?

The OS seems to work fine but I can't browse the internet with firefox. I'm using a speedtouch 546 v6 modem with adsl(wired). The network manager indicates that the wired connection "auto eth1" is active. The previous OS was windows xp. I was able to browse the internet whit this OS. I removed it because it was crashing all the time (illegal version).

A few days ago my wireless windows vista computer internet was running slow so i reset the modem. Then I went on the internet on my ubuntu machine machine and went to www.google.com and couldn't connect to the server so i tried linuxquestions and i couldn't connect but i could ping sites. My wired and wireless windows computers worked fine. So I called Comcast (my ISP) and said it was a router issue. So I looked online and it said to disable IPv6 on firefox so I did but that still didn't work.
