CentOS 5 :: MRG Realtime, Messaging And Grid Packages From CERN

Apr 15, 2010

I have been using parts of the MRG (kernel-rt, qpid[dc]) package for some time; thanks to Johnny Hughes (hughesjr) for providing the initial binaries. Recently, I discovered that CERN builds MRG for their ScientificLinux distribution, which is a derivative of CentOS.

You can view the package list from their repoview or browse all the packages they support here. I have found these packages to be compatible w/ CentOS. Perhaps something can be done to leverage this work to make MRG available as part of CentOS?It's straight forward to setup a .repo file to pull MRG directly via yum, including updates.

CentOS 5 :: Compile Realtime Clock Function To Kernel?

Oct 26, 2009

I am trying to install vmware server on CentOS: In vmware installation guide it says before intalling:

Before you begin, read the following notes and make adjustments to your host system: The realtime clock function must be compiled in your Linux kernel. The parallel port PCstyle hardware option (CONFIG_PARPORT_PC) must be built and loaded as a kernel module (that is, it must be set to m when the kernel is compiled).

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No Sound With CERN LHC Videos

I cannot get any sound from the Flash videos available from the CERN LHC site.I followed again the various steps in the sticky from "Oldcpu" which helped me get sound working from other sources and I do not have any trouble with sound from BBC iPlayer which I thought was Flash also. I assume there is sound from CERN as there is a volume control shown on the player.

Programming :: Get Job Submitted Through Sun Grid Engine?

Sep 14, 2010

I am a newb on linux and I really need some help on how to get my job submitted through sun grid engine. This is the script I need to submit

#!/bin/sh -f
FILE=$1
LGFL=`echo $FILE | sed 's/.$//' | sed 's/.$//'`
echo "Running -> " $FILE
echo "Octave Output -> " $LGFL".log"
nohup /home/guol2/octave-3.2.4/run-octave -q < $FILE >& $LGFL".log" &
echo "Command Started"

It basically stats Octave and run a file I typed after. So if I need to submit it through sun grid engine how would I type it in command line or how should I do it in the sun grid engine control panel. I tried qsub -o <my path> -e <my path> run_octave Myfile.m (Myfile.m is the file I need to run)

CentOS 5 :: Get Centos To Recognize Updated Packages?

Jun 24, 2009

I have a copy of the DVD Iso for centos 5.3. I downloaded the updated packages to the Centos directory and then ran the repomanage perl script to remove the old files from the directory. I then ran the createrepo and the new iso image with the script code below.

baseDir=`pwd`
rhelBuild=`pwd`/dvd-iso-contents
rm -f CentOS_1.0.0.iso
echo "Updating repository"
dvd_discinfo=`head -1 $rhelBuild/.discinfo`
echo "$dvd_discinfo

[Code]...

I am using VMWare to test the build, so I have the cd pointing to the iso image. I get the CentOS to start up find and dandy asking the questions for the interactive boot. It gets thru the stage of checking dependencies and then when it starts to copy down the image to the "harddrive" that is when the problem occurs.

One of the updated files is file-4.17-15.el5_3.1.i386.rpm (file-4.17-15.el5.i386.rpm was removed using repomanage), but the loader is looking for the removed file. I've looked thru any dependencies, but nothing specific for the removed file, all are asking for /usr/bin/file with no specific version numbers. I have run a rpm -test on all the rpms, but haven't been able to look thru that to see if there is a specific request for the version.

I did try this, but it just moved on to the next file. I did not replace the file version, but then it found another problem that was the same as this, the updated file is in the repo, but it is requesting the old version. I looked thru the fileslist and others to see if maybe that was the problem, but they were updated to the new versions.

CentOS 5 :: CentOS Installing Packages Did Not Select?

Dec 28, 2009

I've noticed this happen with every CentOS installation I've done in the past and it's confusing me. On the software template screen select, I always select "Server" and leave the extras option unchecked, I also check "Customise now". The only things I choose are the editors (to get vi), Web server and server configuration tools (and this time also Java). I didn't select any GUI programs, yet it still installs things like X, GNOME components and also samba. Why does it do that? There no way they're needed for dependencies. Is there something I'm missing when selecting the software components? Why does it still install samba when I didn't select it from under "Servers" components? Or have I misunderstood what software selection does and it installs all those components regardless but doesn't automatically turn the services on?

Ubuntu :: How To Install Grid ( Ccsm Plugin )?

Jun 5, 2010

Just bought a new computer and installed Lucid 64 bit. On my old PC, I had Lucid 32 bit. There I installed Grid using the instructions on this page: [URL]... But now, on the new computer, i cannot do it. I get the error:

Code:
rumtscho@bradbury:~/tmp/grid$ git-checkout 1281082ba678033e515a19419ca8ffe8641d744b.git-checkout: command not found. I did install everything mentioned in the instruction, including git-core. The git-clone row worked without errors. So why cannot I finish the installation?

I don't care if I get Grid from the git repository or from some other source (I don't understand why it is missing from ccsm in the first place, it got installed automatically under 9.10),

Software :: Convert Video Over A Network / Grid?

Jun 29, 2010

I'm looking for a linux application to convert video over a network/grid of computers. I currently have 4 new desktops that are just sitting around, all with the latest build of mint linux installed. My network consists of a 10/100/1000 switch, all desktops have matching NIC's. The videos i have are rather large in size and i would like to be able to have a "server" that will send out bits of the video, with a job to each desktop and have it converted and recompiled back to the server, and if it could convert these videos to a dvd that would be great. the videos i have now range from 8GB-11GB a piece, 33 videos all together, and it would take a single desktop ages to do anything with it. (also this is a nerdy way to do it )

I've done grid computing like this with Vegas Studio and After Effects on Windows but me and M$FT dont get along anymore .

General :: Install Grid Engine On VMWare Installation?

Mar 11, 2010

I've looked through the forums and found that installing openmotif may fix my problem. I tried it but to no avail. Here is my challenge, I'm trying to install Grid Engine on my VMWare fedora installation. I get this dependency error:

Quote:
rpm -i sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libXm.so.3()(64bit) is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64
libXp.so.6()(64bit) is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64
sun-sge-common = 6.2 is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64

I installed the latest version of openmotif and when I do a search for the two files, there is no libxm.so.3 but libxp.so.6 is there. When I try to install the rpm again I still get the exact same error.

General :: Sun Grid Engine - Reserve Multiple Cpus On Hosts

Mar 14, 2011

I am somewhat familiar with SGE (Sun Grid Engine, now Oracle Grid Engine) commands but am having a problem when running parallel jobs.

Present Machine configuration:
machine I - 12 cpus
machine II - 12 cpus
machine III - 12 cpus
.... so on ...
One_machine - 16 cpus

(I have all machine of 12 cpus and 1 machine having 16 cpus)

I want to schedule jobs on these machine such that if I ask for 12 cpus - my jobs should execute on any of the machines which has all 12 free cpus (eg machine I or machine II) in this case.

Eg. suppose I ask for 24 cpus

Option I : 12@machine1 12@machine2 ----- I need this

Options II : 10@machin1 10@machine2 4@machine3 ---- I don't need such a distribution

Hence, Option I is ideal here. Also, when running 12 jobs on machine1 (say) - even if all 12 cpus are not being used at some instance of time, none of the 12 cpus should be freed.
In short, until my run finishes, all blocked cpus should remain blocked.

If you may understand, the purpose here is to run some performance tests.

I'm using 'qrsh' to launch jobs.

Then, I am assured when dragging, it will only land on 0.5cm, 1.0cm, 1.5cm, and so on. And it would not be land on 0.79cm, 1.07cm, 1.43cm, etc.

I am guessing my cpu will not be supported in the RT kernel since it is pretty old now.I added nosmp acpi=off during boot at the Grub2 menu and it booted fine and I was able to capture some video great.

My questions is, if I remove the smp support by using the nosmp option, do I still benefit from the RT kernel or would I do just as well with the generic kernel I have installed?Eventually I will upgrade do a new system board and processor but for now I just got some life back in this one by switching to Linux

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Realtime Streaming Of Mic Input Over LAN?

Jul 21, 2010

I have investigated loads and loads of options and haven't really yet come across what I need.

I wish to stream the microphone input from a PC using Lucid to another PC also using Lucid on the same network. I don't care about the quality, however, latency is really important. I hope to use it to monitor the cries of my baby daughter, so the lower the latency the better.

I have tired various options:

- FFserver and FFmpeg - latency of over 30 seconds

- VLC - couldn't get it to work with my mic and maxes out the CPU

- ssh server 'cat /dev/dsp > /dev/dsp' - latency of around 5 seconds by audio keeps breaking up with huge delays

- icecast2 and darkice - latency of around 7 seconds but no audio breakups

I've been reading on maybe using PulseAudio to stream the input, but I am not sure if it will work or not...

how to get near real-time streaming audio? As I said, it is the realtime, not the quality that is important...
