The best explanation I can get to my problem is in the title, I get some horizontal strips that I notice specially in videos (I use XBMC, full screen).I had this problem before in 10.4 and I was able to solve it simply by choosing no effects on the old menu for the appearance.
Unfortunately I followed the mote that states "If it works fine in needs more features" and I installed 11.4, now I can't seem to solve this problem... In the loggin screen I have the default option has Ubuntu classic (no effects) and I installed compiz settings and disabled everything there, but I still have the problem.I tried mint debian and I didn't have this problem there with everything off on the settings. How can I get the same effect as that "old" 10.4 menu to disable compiz?
My system:
Ubuntu 11.04
Acer revo R3610 (atom + ion)
4gb ram
(And I have the nvidia drivers installed)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently did a clean install of 11.04 over 10.10. I tried Unity, and wasn't a great fan. When trying to use Ubuntu Classic at login, I get straaaaange visual effects, such as no window title bars. I went into Synaptic and removed Unity and installed GNOME, thinking that GNOME would then run when I chose Ubuntu Classic at login, and after some tweaking, like adding gnome-panel and metacity --replace to the startup applications, it did.
Now here is the problem. When I try to add any effects through CCSM, they don't do anything. Zero. Zilch. Nout. I did get some effects when I first installed Natty, but this was part of the reason why my title bars disappeared - after every effect was applied, I had to restart.

ive had ubuntu 10.4 on my system before but decided to see what else is out there on now im back here but ive compiz effects on when i first had ubuntu 10.4 and now the extra effects wont stay on and when i enable compiz effects they have the check next to it as if i enable them but when i exit they do not stay enable i have reinstalled ubuntu
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed yesterday Fedora 14, 64 bit... Now I wanted to setup the nice graphic effect, but I can't find a way how to setup the minimize effect. I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!

I know compiz can achieve some tiling with the grid addon but that's not that great. I was looking for something more similar to how xmonad manages windows and workplaces.

View 3 Replies View Relatedrecently I managed to install a plugin for Compiz that allows for head tracking. After getting past one hurdle after another I finally managed to compile it and made the webcam work with it in a 64-bit environment... Unfortunately, after I got this all working, the plugin constantly glitches out by zooming out immensely, distorting my desktop, and gives me a hall of mirrors effect. I know the plugin works because if I set some settings to minimum effect, it successfully tracks me and positions windows accordingly. But this makes the effect all jumpy and only works for periods of about 1.5 seconds then just doesn't do anything after that. Also, mouse tracking works flawlessly.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with Compiz enabled (Visual Effects = Normal, in the System-Preferences-Appearance)
The gnome-terminals are transparent. I would like to disable the transparency, because I have a lot of terminals open at the same time and I don't want to be able to see one below another one.
In the gnome-terminal preferences, Background is set to "solid colour". However, Compiz seems to be over-riding this somehow.
I have the CompizConfig Settings Manager installed. I have looked through it but I can't find an option which disables the transparency for terminals. I tried the Opacity, Brightness and Saturation plugin, but it only allows you to vary the transparency level, not disable it entirely, and there doesn't seem to be a way of setting a default.
I like Compiz very much, so I don't want to disable the desktop effects. Does anyone know how to just disable the gnome-terminal transparency?
I'm not using lubuntu. Somehow I selected that and I can't get rid of it now. I'm on Ubuntu with Gnome.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated system few days back. and Ka-boom! Suddenly my all desktop effects gone. My theme effects of Mac from the theme Macubuntu 10.10 were gone too. I removed Macubuntu and tried to go into visual effects tab in Appearance Preferences, but it says "Mutter is running, Can't switch to other effects." Now, may this mutter is coming in natty narwhal & new, but seriously it's 2D effects aren't smooth enough.. Also I just can't use Alt+Tab which I'm habitual of.
My question is: How to disable this mutter and re-enable my Compiz-Fusion? I tried to kill mutter process from the daemons and start a compiz.. It didn't work.. Instead, I had to reboot my machine everytime I did that. When I remove mutter from sudo apt-get remove mutter.My desktop stays blank after a reboot and I can't access anything.. Thanks to EasyStroke that I'd given stokes to open a new terminal.

How do I temporally disable compiz when in unity-3d so that I can play a game at the correct speed (with compiz enabled I get about 20% of the speed I get with compiz disabled) I have tried a script with
metacity --replace &
./game
compiz --replace &
But this makes an unusable desktop.
I know I can use unity-2d but that seems to be worse in terms of usability.. I also know I can use gnome2 but whats the point when that will be missing in the next release . Is there anyway of doing this in unity-3d? Are there any plans (possibly from compiz) to ever do this automatically ?
One thing that worries me is that a new user will try a opengl game and think that Linux is far slower than Windows at games (which if you have a nvidia card with the binary driver is not true)
I restored a whole filesystem from a backup using rdiff-backup and made it bootable from a modified CentOS 5 CD ROM.All works well except all the files have SeLinux context ofroot:object_r:file_t:s0I tried rebooting with .autorelable and it seems to take no time and reboots immediately after starting. After, there is no change in the contexts of the files.I also tried fixfiles and restorecon with and without selinux enabled and in all cases it takes no time and returns no error code i.e. it does nothing. Nothing in the system log either.

I tried adding /tmp to my php.ini file, but then when I use the pear -V command it doesn't do anything. I do not get any errors or anything. when I boot my pc with fedora 10, it displays the white cube, although i can rotate it but it does not seem to work i cant see any desktops. How can I switch back to the normal desktop view or disable compiz fusion ?
