Is there a way to disable the wobble visual effect without installing an additional program, such as simple-ccsm?
EDIT: My bad, I should add that I would like to keep the visual effects set to "Extra", if at all possible.
I have upgraded to 10.4 and and after try to install mac look in ubuntu.My screen start flickering, I found it this due to in system => preference => appearance => effect become no effect automatically (as each and every time I select extra effect)After some time.for changing this setting i need to turn off the computer and restart then after i can do it i.e. change effect to extra effect. Its done after following installation

Really get annoyed when mouse is moved to the top right corner then the window is switched to the application view/chooser. I want to get rid of this effect and modified following key in gconf-editor as suggested in [URL]apps/compiz/plugins/scale/allscreens/option, change initiate_edge from TopRight to None. but nothing happens on the effect. View 9 Replies View RelatedThe best explanation I can get to my problem is in the title, I get some horizontal strips that I notice specially in videos (I use XBMC, full screen).I had this problem before in 10.4 and I was able to solve it simply by choosing no effects on the old menu for the appearance.
Unfortunately I followed the mote that states "If it works fine in needs more features" and I installed 11.4, now I can't seem to solve this problem... In the loggin screen I have the default option has Ubuntu classic (no effects) and I installed compiz settings and disabled everything there, but I still have the problem.I tried mint debian and I didn't have this problem there with everything off on the settings. How can I get the same effect as that "old" 10.4 menu to disable compiz?
My system:
Ubuntu 11.04
Acer revo R3610 (atom + ion)
4gb ram
(And I have the nvidia drivers installed)
As I stated in the title, can I, and if so, does anyone know how to install a game (like Mass Effect) on Ubuntu through wine that way it will sync up with my steam account? Also so when I do get up to ME2, my decisions will be transferred over?

OK so that probably wasn't the best subject line as it was a hard one to describe.
Using Wheezy on an Acer Aspire One 5737 laptop. After a recent update now when I drag an open window around on the desktop it well wobbles in a distorted manner, the same goes when scrolling the page doesn't scroll smoothly it, well, wobbles. I have had the same issue in the past with Lenny on a laptop and I had to install video drivers it fix it however I 'think' Debian now supplies it's own drivers, is this correct? I'm not all that good with the video aspects of Linux. Is there something I need to check or maybe reinstall to correct thsi problem?
i install fedora 13 in virtual box. i enable campiz feature. but it have two choice:
1-windows wobble when moved
2-workspaces on a cube.
does campiz have only two option ?or does it have settings window?
as much as i am one for saving space and throwing out the trash. now my problem is the fact that I DO NOT WANT THIS program (localepurge) running on my system. i look and did everything i could. note : i am a noobie. when i config the program from the start i told it NO don't delete anything. and now that i have done some reading i do not want it working period. i could not find a way to disable or uninstall localepurge.

The only problem is that I want to keep ubuntu-desktop, but that I don't want to boot into the (memory consuming) graphical interface by default.Does anyone know how to do that? (set the default boot to command-prompt). Also, does anyone have tips on packages I c an safely remove to clear up space and memory? I'm running Fedora 15, and am trying to run a program that uses gsoap/soapcpp2 2.7.17 to communicate with different parts of the program. As far as I know everything has compiled correctly and I am using the same versions of the required libraries as several working installations. However, every single time the program tries to open a port, the program is unable to do so. This happens no matter what port I specify.
if there is anything in fedora that would limit or disable the ability of the program to open a port to start communicating. I have tried disabling the firewall with no change to the behaviour.
I'm trying to install a program called Slam Soccer 2006 (it's original name is bolzplatz2006). Anyway, no package is available, so I'm having to install it using the tar.gz file. I've read all the Documentation that I could find on ubuntu sites, and I think I understand the extract, configure, make, install process. However, I keep getting stuck on the ./configure phase. When I type ./confiure into the command line it keeps telling me that no such command exists. I tried downloading Kludge Tarball installer so I could have a graphic interface to walk me through the problem. Everything seems fine until I get to the configure phase and I get the following message:

i finally managed to achieve minimal 11.2 system (following tutorial on this forum) but now whenever i try to install additional packages using yast, it automatically selects a whole bunch of unnecessary software. For example, installation of "radeonhd" tries to pull Mozilla Sunbird from repositories.
That's unacceptable behavior and no wonder system gets bloated over time. Is there a way to set yast to pull only crucial dependencies with selected packages (like apt-get's recommended and suggested packages)?
Each time the PC boots and I pop in the Debian DVD into the DVD tray, it emits a blaring sound. I know the sound is emitting from the speaker inside of the PC but short of pulling it out or disable it via the BIOS, can I disable it in any other way as no sounds are heard when I boot with say Fedora, Ubuntu, etc?

My laptop is only small and does not have a disc drive.I would like to install World of Warcraft onto my laptop. Usually my plan of action would be to pop the files under Program Files onto an external hard drive, then copy them over and voila.I'm not 100% sure what the Ubuntu equivalent is to Program Files. Google search suggests usr/bin, but it requires permission to move files there and I'm really not sure how to go about doing this.

There is a popup labeled RegUtil with the error "Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument" and in the terminal window there is the message "wine: cannot find L"C:\windows\system32\netsh.exe."

I installed Ubuntu server and then did "sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop" which was a bad idea because it killed the performance.So here is my question.Ive read you can split the X client and server. everything in the folder /libraries (I don't have writing permission on the /usr/lib folder)

I got an error: I need the fftw with double precision. So I think the ./configure does not read the library properly, or I need another version of the library or I need other flags.
How to install the BitTorrent peer to peer program? I've downloaded the software, looked around, and cannot find what should be obvious as to how to install and use it. Please keep it simple, as I am an amateur and quite new to Linux and Ubuntu. I'm installing onto Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop pc. View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Wine no problem. Then I downloaded a Windows Chess program(ECTool) to the desktop. I right clicked on the ECTool icon and checked run with Wine. The program came up just fine and I could make moves on the chessboard, but no information was saved. I got a blank screen under games in progress. Anyone use this program or have any ideas what to do next? ECTool is listed as a program that works with Wine.

THey must be installed by me.(I'm not sure of the support competence at the provider, so I've come to the source)I think/hope that such basics would be part of the primary OSystem?How would I install programs onto a system with no such access?
